Change of Heart
"Mest-San! Wake up!" The tan man heard a voice call out.
He sat up in his bed and walked out of the door yawning and also... shirtless.
"M- Mest-San! Go wear a shirt!" Mest heard as he saw a blushing Wendy.
"Oh- sorry! There we go." Wendy sighed as he reached for a shirt and put it on.
"Sorry, I'm still getting used to you being here and Nii-San is the only guy I've been around shirtless which is usually around training." Wendy rambled on as she tried to make the situation less awkward.
"Wendy, it's fine really," Mest reassured as he laughed.
"Sorry again it's been a week and I'm still not used to having you around." The dragon slayer apologized again.
"It's fine. Why don't I help you with cooking and stuff like that so you don't forget me? You okay with that?"
Wendy nodded with a smile causing Mest to smile back at her.
"We should get to cooking then. Natsu is hopeless in the kitchen and Lucy is babysitting everyone else." Wendy said, going behind Mest and pushing him.
The two arrived in the kitchen and began cooking when Lucy entered.
"Oh good, you two are up. Mest why don't you train with us since there's nothing to do?" Lucy suggested as she messed up Wendy's hair.
"You trust me that much?" Mest asked suspiciously.
"Nope! But I trust Wendy." Lucy replied, crossing the room and opening a door to get out.
"O- oh. Uh sure! Where are you going?"
Lucy turned around and gave him a smile.
"I'm waking up Natsu." She said with a wide smile.
"Is that something to be happy about?" Mest asked Wendy once Lucy had gone.
"Hm? Oh not usually but just leave the lovebirds be." Wendy replied waving her hand.
"Talking about lovebirds where's yours?" Wendy looked up from cooking.
"I don't have one!" Mest looked at her with doubt.
"Really? I'd expect you to have someone."
"What makes you say that?" Wendy asked as she plated the pancakes for their breakfast.
"Well, you're nice, pretty, and really fun to be around. It's only natural for you to have someone." Mest stated as he counted it off his fingers.
He turned to look at Wendy only too see an overly red tomato with blue hair.
"Ah, Wendy! Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I just wasn't to expecting you to say that." Wendy quickly stood up and smiled nervously.
Wendy quickly finished plating the food and brought them to the table.
"Did you forget about me again?" Wendy shook her head.
"I think talking to you worked." Mest nodded happily and gave her a grin.
"Oi! Wendy, what did you make?" Reina asked as she got to the table.
"Pancakes! Try them out, this is my first time making it."
Reina sat down as Natsu and Lucy walked in with Happy and Carla in tow.
"Wow, Wendy! It smells great!" Natsu exclaimed as he sat down.
Lucy took a seat next to him.
"Of course it would. It's Wendy." Lucy shot her a grin to which she smiled back at.
They set to eating, not saying anything to one another until they were done. It had become a routine since most of the time they were too hungry to pay attention to anything else.
"Mest is training with us today," Lucy said as she finished eating.
"What type of magic will you be training with Mest?" Reina asked.
"I haven't thought about that. What magic are you all doing?" The group all shot each other a look.
"Well..." Wendy started.
"It's like a more advanced version of our own magic." Lucy completed her sentence.
"Yeah, we'll say that." Natsu agreed.
"Well, I guess I should do something related to teleportation then," Mest said.
"Why don't you do time manipulation?" Wendy suggested.
"That does sound fun," Mest admitted.
"Reina, you can teach him, right?" Lucy asked.
Reina nodded and Lucy smiled.
"Good! You guys can start once Natsu is done with his training. For now, you'll focus on weapons and combat."
"Okay...!" Mest said in shock.
"Talking about Natsu's training, have you guys made a breakthrough yet?" Wendy asked.
"Yep! I'll show you guys once I've perfected it with Reina!" Natsu shouted excitedly with a boyish grin.
"We'll be waiting then!" Lucy replied with the same smile.
The group cleaned up the table and headed to the river to do their washing. It was the day to do their laundry and Wendy needed to clean their dishes too.
Mest decided to tag along with Wendy and help her since he had nothing better to do.
Once they were done, Natsu and Reina headed to their usual spot as the rest of the group headed back to the arena.
"Have you decided which option you want to do?" Reina asked.
"Yeah. I'll wait to learn more about my magic. I don't want to hurt anyone with it." Natsu answered.
"Well show me what you've got then." Reina lunged at Natsu.
Natsu reflexively stepped back and dodged her attack. Reina sent a continuing array of punches and Natsu either blocked or dodged them cleanly.
Natsu quickly leaned in for an opening only to hit nothing but smoke.
Reina had turned into a shadow. The thing was Reina couldn't only turn into shadows but she controlled them and could shape them into whatever she wanted it to be. Just as long as it was kept the original size.
Natsu grinned and turned his hand into a dark claw. It enveloped his entire hand to his shoulder in a black substance that hardened onto his skin.
"That's one scary-looking arm you got there Natsu," Reina commented.
"Well, I figured since I could 'control' the darkness why not sculpt it into whatever I want it to be," Natsu replied with a grin.
"Smart thinking. I'm seeing more of my thinking than Acnologia's." Reina snickered.
The two shared a laugh before Natsu lunged at the base of a tree.
Suddenly, a dark figure rose from the shadows forming into the dragon version of Reina. She let out a fierce roar and the two clashed, Natsu now covered in his own magic.
The two fought evenly even though Natsu was about one-tenth of Reina's size. Just as the winner of the battle was about to be decided, they both stopped their attack.
Someone was there with them.
"Who's there?" Natsu asked, walking towards the presence.
"U- Uh it's just me." Mest came out from behind a tree with both hands up.
"What are you doing here?" Reina asked with a sigh.
"Wendy said I should come to get you guys. We decided that we're going on a walk." Mest replied casually.
"Mest let me ask you something." The teleporter looked at Natsu.
"Yeah?" He answered.
"Are you going to tell the council what you say today?" Mest shook his head.
"How can we believe what you say though?" Reina asked as she crossed her arms.
"I guess I just had a change of heart." He shrugged.
A special thanks to ASatAnael for the idea of Natsu's magic!!! Thank you so much!! And thank you to everyone else who made a suggestion!!!
