Chapter 5: The Girl Behind the Mask

Cole watched Hope as she trained. She was so beautiful, so majestic, so wonderful. Of course, Hope never showed any sign of even liking Cole. But he still found her wonderful all the same.

"Earth to Cole, come in Cole," Jay said, waving his hand in front of Cole's face.

"Hu, what did you say?" he said, shaking his head to clear his thoughts.

"Will you just ask Hope out already. You mooning over her is getting annoying," Jay said.

"No way!" Cole shouted.

"Why?" Kai asked.

"Because she'll think its weird. She our teammate now, not just some random girl. And I don't think she likes me," Cole said, rubbing the back of his head.

"Oh, shut up and do it already. She does like you," Jay said and shoved Cole towards Hope.

"Hi Cole, need something?" Hope asked, wiping the sweat away from her brow.

"Um, I was, er, wondering if you would, um, like to go a date at a restaurant, um, with me tonight?" Cole asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I would love to," Hope said, smiling.

"Really?" Cole said, surprised.

"Yeah. Oh shoot, I don't have anything to wear," Hope said, her face falling.

"Go check with Nya. She'll have something for you," Jay shouted.

"Meet you up on deck at 6?" Cole asked.

"That would be perfect, see you then," Hope said, kissing Cole on the cheek and running off to find Nya.

"That wasn't so bad, Cole, was it?" Jay asked.

"It wasn't," Cole said smiling happily.

"Need help getting ready?" Zane asked.

"Yes please," Cole said, worried. He couldn't even remember how to tie his shoes, let alone a tie.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I looked at Nya. She had only known me a short time, but she had me nailed to a T.

"And all done," Nya said, spinning me to face her mirror.

I was encased in a short Japanese style dress. Black with mid-length sleeves, the hem lay just a few inches away from my knees. Purple flowers blossomed to the middle of the dress. Purple dots specked the dress as well. The collar also sported purple dots. A line of purple buttons curved away from it to my right side.

On my feet, were the most beautiful pair of high heels I had ever seen. Of course they were the only pair of high heels I had ever seen. Black lace lay over purple background and I could see the tips of my now purple painted toe nails. The black heel stood two inches tall.

My hair was pulled back and pinned into a messy bun. My purple streak looked beautiful in the sea of brown. Nya had placed an ornate purple hair comb in it. It looked like a cherry blossom. A piece danged down next to my right ear, ending is a purple gem as well. A pair of amethyst earrings hung from my ears.

My violet eyes pulled you in, thanks to the purple and black eye makeup surrounding them. Every time I blinked my eyelashes brushed my cheeks which were pale pink and sparkled ever so slightly. Fake gems sparkled on my eyelashes as well. My lips looked plump and full thanks to the medium pink lipstick Nya put on them.

"Damn I'm good! So what do you think?" Nya asked.

"I love it," I said, hugging her carefully, not wanting to ruin Nya's hard work.

"Come on, its almost 6," she said and led me to the deck of the bounty.

I let out a gasp of surprise when I see Cole standing, waiting for me with a single violet in one hand. I am shocked to see him all dressed up for me. Well, dressed up in his own way.

His pitch black hair is combed back into a ponytail to keep it out of his face and I could finally see his chocolate brown eyes.He is wearing a simple dark grey vest over a form fitting black shirt. He sports a pair of black pants and dress shoes.

When his eyes met mine, time stopped.

I was the first to break out out of the spell. "Hey."

Cole opened his mouth, but no words came out. At least not a full sentence. "You look- you- wow-"

I couldn't help but smirk. "Wow. I must be drop dead gorgeous if your stuttering that bad."

Cole snapped out of it, playfully glared at me. "Ha ha, hilarious."

"So is that for me?" I asked, pointing at the flower.

"Yes," he said and hands me the flower. I breath in the wonderful smell of it. I truck it into my bun.

"Shall we go, milady?" He said, offering me his elbow, making me chuckle.

"We shall, good knight," I replied, taking it as we leave.

(Time Skip)

We sat at a table outside a pizza place. When we first arrived, I gasped in surprised. I loved pizza, as did everyone in my family. One can't live in New York and not like it. I had only told Cole once off handily that I like pizza, but he paid attention to it, just like he had about the violet. We sat down at a table and ordered.

"So, where are you from?" Cole's question pulled me out of my thoughts sharply.

"Um, here and there. You know what its like," I said quickly.

"I lived with my dad all my life. How about you?"

"Dad and four brothers. My dad says my oldest brother and I were the easiest to raise. We helped out with the younger ones all the time,"

"So that's why you mange to keep your sanity around the five of us guys,"

"Yeah. Having four brothers helps with stuff like that,"

"So how'd you get so good at fighting?"

"Our dad started training us when we were 5."

"Harsh."

"No, no. Its nothing like that. We all choose to be ninja. I was the last one to start training in fact."

"What are your brothers' names?"

"Well, there's Leo. He oldest and the leader. Then there's me. After me, is my brother Raph. He is such a hothead. Then Donnie. He's the nerd of the family. And the youngest is Mikey. He is the prankster. We call him Doctor Prankenstein because of it,"

"So there are five of you?"

"No, we have an older sister, Karai. She's oldest. We didn't know she was our sister for a long time," I said.

"So she didn't grow up with you?" Cole asked.

"Its a long story," I said, taking a bite of a bread stick.

"We got time."

"Well, it started when my father was young. He had a friend named Oroku Saki. They had trained together their whole lives. But there was a girl, Tang Sheng. Both of them loved her but she choose my father, Hamato Yoshi, over Saki. Saki was angry and decided to take revenge against the couple and their daughter, Miwa. He rebuilt the Foot Clan and set fire to the house and took Miwa. He thought my father was dead and my father thought Miwa was dead. Tang Sheng didn't make it."

"Then what?"

"My father move here, and had us. We found Miwa, who Saki had been lying to by saying she was his daughter and her name was Karai, and brought her to our father when we were 15," I said, sipping my soda. I hoped he didn't spot the lie about my father moving here. I didn't feel like explaining how my family were mutants or how I was from New York.

"So, what happened to Oroku Saki?" Cole asked.

"He became the leader of the Foot Clan now and now he is the one who is sending the foot bots here."

"Why?"

"Now that is something we would both like to know," I said as the large cheese pizza was placed on our table.

I took a piece and bite into it. The gooey cheese melts in my mouth. I sighed in pleasure at the taste of it. I missed it so much. Half way through the slice, I stopped eating it. I put it down on my plate and pushed it away.

The pizza reminded me of my family. Of New York. I missed it. My mind filled with thoughts of my brothers and family dinners where we would surround a pizza and talk about the day. I took a slip of my soda, but I had lost my appetite.

"What's wrong? Do you not like the pizza?" Cole asked.

"No, no. I love it," I said.

"Then what's wrong?"

"It reminds me of my family back home," I said, wiping a single tear away from my eyes.

"Oh, you want to leave?"

"No, you finish eating. I'll just go for a walk around the park," I said, standing and pushing my chair in.

"Okay, be with you in a bit," Cole said.

"See you then," I said and walked to the nearby park.

I walked deep into it, trying to loose myself in its leafy bows. I couldn't. I found a bench and sit down. I pull my legs up to my chest and put my arms around my knees.

"I miss you so much, my brothers," I said out loud.

Tears filled my eyes as silent replied to my words. I don't bother to wipe them away knowing more will just take their place. I missed my brothers. I missed how they were. I wanted to be home with them, but deep down I knew Ninjago needed me just as much as I wanted my family.

"So It is you who has been destroying my Foot Bots," A deep voice said from behind me.

I spun around and found Oroku Saki standing behind me, dressed in his armor. I stood quickly to face the man who wanted to hunt and kill my family.

"So Yoshi sends a girl to do a man's job. Pathetic, even for him," Shredder said.

"I'm strong enough to take care of you," I said, kicking off the high heels.

"I doubt that very much, little girl," He said.

I charged at him. He moved out of the way and grabbed my right arm, spinning me to the ground. I pushed myself out for under his arm and take off running. My feet flied over the ground until I reach the path. I saw Cole walking towards the park, and I pushed myself to move faster. To get to Cole and tell him about Shredder.

Suddenly, a metal covered arm stuck out and hit me square in the chest knocking the wind out of me while my left foot caught a tree root at the same time. I hit the ground, hard. Pain raced through my left leg. I had twisted my ankle meaning I couldn't get away. I knew Shredder would take me and no one would know if I didn't do something fast.

"Cole!!!!" I yelled and Shredder hit me on the head to shut me up.

I fell unconscious as I was lifted from the ground be Shredder. I saw Cole running towards me but he wasn't close enough to get to me before Shredder would get away.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cole ran to the place where he had heard Hope's voice. From just the tone of her voice, he had known she was in trouble and had needed his help. But he had been too slow from the looks of things.

When he got to the spot where he heard voice from, he was shocked to see signs of a fight. There were scuff marks and broken branches around the spot. Pieces of black and purple cloth laid on the ground, torn off of Hope's dress.

Cole knelt down and picked up the single violet on the path. It had been the one he had given Hope, the one she had in her hair. He crushed in his hand. He then stood up.

"Hope, I'm coming for you," he said and rushed in the direction the men had taken Hope.

The single crushed violet fell to the ground behind Cole as he ran. A droplet of purple magic dropped from one of the petals onto the stone path below it and the grey stone turned purple. The flower sprouted roots and dug into the ground, repairing the damage that had been done to it.

The magic of Change filled the flower. Hope's magic filled that flower and made it grow strong again.

It showed who the girl beneath her mask who she truly was. Strong, fierce, loyal, and caring. A sister, girlfriend, daughter, ninja, and elemental master.

That's who Hope Hamato was.
