Indoctrination

~*Flashback*~

My brother and I found ourselves standing in Lotus Pier again. We were standing there watching Fengmian talk with the Jiang's and Wei Ying about the Wen Clan Indoctrination. The conversation did not go anywhere because it was interrupted my Madam Yu. She had such a hateful glare towards Wei Ying at all times. She would even lash out at her own children for being close to Wei Ying. Fengmian told them that Jiang Wanyin had to attend the Indoctrination and Wei Ying offered to go with him to protect him. Madam Yu was furious that her son Wanyin had to go at all. She even spat about Wei Ying having a choice and calling him a son of a servant.

I turned to my brother, "A head disciple and subordinate is not a servant," I told him, "Why berate him like that?"

"I am not sure," He said, "I did not know just how harsh Madam Yu's words are towards Wuxian. He does not deserve to be treated that way, and Fengmian is to much of a coward to stand up for him, and even lets her berate her own children for being close to Wuxian. He doesn't even praise his children enough, but makes sure Wuxian gets enough praise to counter the bullying from Madam Yu."

"This family really needs to sit down and talk," I told him, "I feel like we should some how convince Clan Leader Jiang and Madam Yu to sit and work things out because it is obvious it is affecting their children too much."

"I have to agree with you," Brother said, "maybe we can find an excuse to come to Lotus Pier or meet up with the pair to help them sort things out."

"We can tell them the rumors are getting to much out of hand, that the abuse about Wei Ying and the so called affair Fengmian had with his mother," I suggested.

"That could work," Brother said in agreement.

For the moment we had to let it be. Time moved forward and we were now in Qishan at the Wen Clan indoctrination. I knew we were getting closer to the massacre of Lotus Pier and I was not looking forward to seeing that. I know how badly it had hurt Wei Ying but I don't know everything that had happened, and I was scared to find out. We made our way to the front to see Wei Ying and Jiang Wanyin standing there waiting for something to happen. I had not arrived yet but I know I was coming.

"Gusu Lan Clan has arrived!" a wen disciple shouted.

We turned only to see myself limping.

"Wangji, what happened to your leg?" Xiongzhang asked.

"During the attack at Cloud Recesses, in order to protect some disciples from getting killed, I left the safety of the Cold Cave. Wen Xu demanded I hand over the Yin Iron but I refused. The next thing that happened was, one of the Wen's broke my leg and the Yin Iron fell from my robes. They took it and dragged me here," I explained.

"Your leg is broken, and they are forcing you to walk!" Xiongzhang was not happy. I could only nod.

Wen Chao had everyone stand silently and listen to his orders. Handing over our swords, and then having to read and recite the Quintessence of the Wen Clan. What was going to happen soon, I remembered quite well. I did not react then but I wanted to. It was the following day and Wen Chao asked for volunteers first to recite everything.

"Lan Wangji, Jin Zixuan, Wei Wuxian," Wen Chao called out, "Since no one wants to voluteer, one of you can go first."

"I can not!" I said confidently.

Wen Chao was a bit annoyed saying that I should remember as I was one of the notorious and prominent Twin Jades. I only ignored him.

"I can not either!" Jin Zixuan also said with confidence.

Before Wen Chao could berate him, Wei Ying spoke up, "I will, I will!" He yelled excitedly.

My brother looked at me and could see a smirk on my face, "What is that look for?" Xiongzhang asked.

"You'll see," I said and directed his attention back to Wei Ying.

Wei Ying stepped forward and started stretching and flexing his body as a "warm-up" before reciting. Wen Chao was starting to get annoyed but gave him a few seconds before he snapped, "Wei Wuxian!" He yelled interrupting his stretching, "Get on with it!"

Wei Ying giggled, "Okay, okay! what is the hurry, now listen carefully okay!" he said with a smirk and then began to recite while pacing back and forth with a smile on his face, "Thou shall not kill, fight, or lech, thou shall not shout, wander at night, or sprint."

My brother started laughing and I followed. I then noticed others could not keep themselves from laughing but tried very hard to hold back.

"Thou shall not bully the weak by being strong or teasing others, thou shall not breach laws, thou shall not skip class or leave early, thou shall not sneer, thou shall not sit improperly!" He finally stopped and let out a laugh.

Wen Chao boiled with rage as his face turned red, "Shut up!" he screamed, and stood up from his seat, "Wei Wuxian! How dare you read out loud the Lan's principles her in Qishan!"

Wuxian gasped as if he did not realize he recited the wrong principles and pretending to make a mistake, "Ah?" He whined and was acting cute.

"Do you have a death wish?!"

Wei Ying started hitting his head with the scroll of rules in his hand, "Whoops! It was an accident Wen-"

"Shut up!" Wen Chao sneered and said, "Do you think you can fool me?"

Wei Ying grinned and stretched being all proud of himself and ignoring Wen Chao's rage.

"Servants!" Wen Chao yelled, "Take them to the vegetable garden... To carry the dung!"

Wei Ying stopped in his tracks and removed the smup look from his face and winced, "Wait What?" He muttered, he then turned to me in hesitation giving me an 'oops..' and 'sorry' kind of look.

All I could do was roll my eyes at the scene. Wuxian did have some fun and I wasn't really mad anyway. I was bound to be punished for not reciting anyway. The day continued and we watched Jin Zixuan, Wei Ying and Me working in the garden. Wei Ying was showing concern for me as he knows something had happened to Cloud Recesses and had seen that I had a hurt leg.

For Wei Ying standing up for me and insulting Wen Chao, he was dragged to the dungeons. My brother and I stood there outside the door Wei Ying went in but he came running out screaming. I felt goosebumps run across my skin and a chill down my spin. I ran into the cell Wei Ying was to be in, and inside was a Giant Wolf. Wen Chao found out Wei Ying was scared of dogs and taunted him before shoving him inside and locked him inside.

"He never told me what happened!" I said in a panic, "I saw he had wounds when he came out the next day, but I did not know this!"

My brother pulled me into a tight embrace as we watched Wei Ying trying to dog the wolf as it went after him. He was tossed and thrown all over the cell he was in, until three needles pierced the skull causing it to go unconscious. I let out a sigh of relief and looked at Wei Ying who was in a lot of pain.

"Wei Gongzi," A young man said.

My brother and I looked and it was Wen Ning. Wen Ning told Wei Ying about Cloud Recesses and gave him some medicine for his wounds. He took a pill for is energy but herbs that were in a pouch, he did not use.

"I should save this for Lan Zhan," He said out loud.

"He is not joking is he?" I ask.

"No," My brother said being just in shock as I am, "Even when he was wounded himself, he was so selfless he did not use much if any medicine Wen Ning gave him only to save it for you as he thought you needed it more."

"I get that I was injured, but the herbs would help with his open wounds," I said and I could not stop tears from falling at this point.

Wei Ying thought about me even when he was in pain and needed the medicine more than I did at that moment. Later, we heard the doors to the dungeon open and Wen Chao coming towards Wei Ying's cell. Wei Ying crawled over to the wolf and removed the needles and back to the corner of the room he was in. The wolf slowly woke making Wen Chao thing the wolf did not do a good job.

~*End Flashback*~

My brother and I decided to take the jade pendant and go back to the palace. I was a bit to shaken to continue for the moment. Thinking back, he save that medicine for me and how much he tried to help me back then, I tried so hard to push him aside because I did not want to give in to my feelings.

"I don't know what to thing right now, Huan Ge," I said choking back more tears.

He pulled me close to him and just stood there comforting me, "He is a good person, Wangji. It just shows that he cares about you more than you probably thought."

"I should have paid more attention," I said now sobbing, "I should have-"

My brother cut me off by shushing me and just continued to comfort me. He told me not to say anything more for the moment and just focus and calming myself down. My heart still hurt, and I knew more pain was coming.
