Screwed
The moment seemed to last forever, even though it was probably 10 seconds. It was so...perfect.
"Lily...I've never said this to anyone but my mother, but I think I love you." He said in a cute, unsteady voice. My entire body seemed to feel engulfed with flames. I was so warm. All I could do was smile...but finally I spit out,
"I'm in love with you.." I cover my face with my hands to hide my blushing, but Link, once again, pries them off my face, gripping my other shoulder, tugging me towards the warmth that is his chest. We "cuddled" for a few minutes until Rhett came over.
"Ew...you guys better stop being nasty!" He said, holding back his laughter. "Anyway, let's all go back to my place for lunch." Link and I nodded, getting up off the bench. He linked arms with me and I shot him an amused grin, which he returned with a handsome smile.
We all journeyed back to Rhett's house. Once we got inside, no one was home. Not even Rhett's brother, Cole. We searched everywhere for food in the McLaughlin's kitchen. We found chips, two sandwiches, and some sodas that we could eat for lunch. Link and I split a sandwich, and Rhett only ate half of the other one.
At one point when we were eating, Link's face shot up from the table and stared at me.
"OH MY GOSH! I totally forgot to tell you guys! My mom has some extra film in her disposable camera, and I was thinking we should take some photos before I lose the camera." Link said, taking a bite out of his sandwich at the end. We all looked at each other, exchanging quick and scattered glances, acknowledging the thought.
"Yeah, sure." I said with a small shrug. We finished and threw our trash away, but brought our soda cans along. We decided to wait until it got a little darker to take some photos, but we took a few in the daylight still hanging in the sky.
We went over the basic steps of using a disposable camera, and then began. Rhett took one of me laying against a tree near the local church, and I took two of Rhett and Link...being Rhett and Link. They decided to get "artsy" and take if their shirts. That made me go crazy for Link.
I remember an episode of GMM when they actually showed some of these shirtless pictures. The muscles on Link's back made me go crazy, but seeing them in person makes me insane!
We had two more photos left. A majority of the photos were just the two boys, and they thought I deserved some spotlight. Rhett took a really cute on of Link and I hugging, him shirtless and me smiling like crazy with rosy cheeks. He's looking down at me, arms around my shoulders. My arms are wrapped around his waist, my eyes staring up at his sparkling ones. It was probably the best photo I've ever taken.
The guys them decided they wanted one of just me. I sat on the ground, staring at the grass, holding a small wild daisy. Yes, it was very hipster of me.
That night is one of my best memories. It was magical.
~3 weeks later~
I was chilling with Link at his house, when we hear a loud knocking on his door. Link got up and opened it, revealing an extremely happy Rhett.
"Look how amazing these pictures came out!" He ran over to me, sitting next to me on the Neal family's couch. I laughed as he handed me half the stack of 8 photos. I was examining them when Link came over and asked to look at them, I handed him two, which happened to be the one of him and I being all cute and stuff, and then just the one of me.
"I think I'm going to keep these two for myself." He said with a sly grin. I put my hand on his knee and rubbed it lovingly back and fourth. I stopped when Rhett gave me a weird look. I giggled and glanced at the ones Rhett was holding. I thought to myself, I can't wait to see these on GMM in the future and remember-
And that's when it hit me.
Like a car crash,
or getting rammed by a bus,
or getting killed by a train.
It took me nearly 4 weeks in 1992 with 16 year old Rhett and Link
to realize..
I'm screwing with the future.
