I took a long shower. I needed time away from Mikko to calm myself down.
I knew that Mikko knows exactly what he does to me.
"If you don't get out of that shower soon, I might just get in there with you."
I was startled by Mikko's voice, but I knew that he didn't see me jump.
"I'm getting out." I sighed and turned off the warm water.
I reached out to grab the towel and couldn't find it. I opened up the glass door, getting out some of the fog and clearing it into the room just to find Mikko smiling while holding the towel on his hooked pinky just out of my reaching range.
"This isn't funny, Mikko," I chastised.
His grin broadened. "I think it's pretty funny."
"You're not the one standing here cold wet and naked."
His grin took on a more wolfish nature that made it a smirk. "I can make you hot wet and naked."
"Ha," I said without amusement. "Now hand me my towel."
He looked down at the towel, then back at me. "What're you going to give me for it?"
"I won't give you a black eye." I aimed for sickly sweet.
"Now that would be something I would want to see." His smirk was pure humor now. A whole range of emotions seemed to be going through Mikko. It was so different than I was used to. Then again, when had I ever really been around Mikko? He was alway around someone, he was always being watched.
"How about I do that when I become a werewolf? I'll punch you right in your over-sized melon."
He took it out on the towel. He flung it over his shoulder. "Now you're going to have to fight me for it."
I sighed. "I thought you wanted to do go on a date with me."
"We are going to go on that date just as soon as you hurry up and get ready."
"I need to dry off and get dressed. You're just being difficult."
He nodded and took a step farther away from the shower. "I know I am, but what're you going to do about it?"
I thought about just pouting, but he was probably expecting that. So I gathered up my courage.
I pushed open the shower door, letting all the condensation out and exposing my body to him. I confidently strode up to him and plucked the shower off of his shoulder, never taking my eyes off of his. I wrapped it around my body and strode over to the mirror. Mikko stayed still until I turned on the hair dryer.
He turned and looked my reflection right in the eyes. "You're lucky I have amazing control," he raised his voice just enough for me to hear him over the whirring of the blow dryer.
I scoffed. "Please."
I looked back at drying hair for a moment. When Mikko was right behind me, I turned off the blow dryer. "What?"
He turned me around and brought his face an inch away from mine. "I do have control. I only do what I choose to do."
"I-" I was cut off my his lips covering mine.
I was left stunned for a moment.
He quickly pulled away. I didn't fail to notice his amber changed eyes staring back at me. "Hurry up and get ready. I'm starving."
Mikko walked out of the bathroom. I heard him walk to the living room before I turned the blow dryer on.
The car ride made me uncomfortable. Not only was I physically uncomfortable from being pregnant, but I was uncomfortable being alone with Mikko.
I could probably count on my hands the amounts of time I had ever been alone with Mikko and at least two of those events were while we were making children, like the irresponsible adults we are.
"Are we going off of territory?" I asked when we had been driving for a while.
He nodded once. "My favorite place is just outside of the boundary. It's a good little place, ran by wolves."
"Rogues?"
He shrugged. "More like members who live outside of the pack."
"I didn't think that was allowed."
He smirked as he looked over at me. "I know what you're thinking." He looked back at the road. "No, that rule won't work for you."
I sighed dramatically. "It could work if you would give it a shot."
He shook his head. "It's not the same. These pack members have no reason for anyone to go after them. The only reason I go here is for the food. It's neutral ground."
"Finn doesn't allow neutral ground."
"What he doesn't know won't hurt him."
I let out a small chuckle. "Like he doesn't know about this place."
Mikko laughed. "We suppress our wolves while we dine here. No rogues in attendance know who we are. It's not hard to do once you've practiced."
"So, in a room that's potentially full of rogues, you're going to suppress your wolf's urges?"
He nodded as he pulled off of the main highway. "Like I said, it gets easier as you practice."
"How do you do it?" I asked with true curiosity.
"One day I'll teach you."
I nodded, satisfied with the answer.
It was only a few more minutes before Mikko pulled into a parking lot.
I stretched when he parked and got out of the car. My body was starting to ache.
The side door open, and for a millisecond, I was truly afraid. That was until I recognized Mikko looking down at me. Even with the height of the SUV, Mikko was still much taller than me.
He held his hand out. "I can smell them, so don't leave me."
I nodded and took his hand. I didn't want to piss anyone off.
Mikko smiled at me. "You're okay. Just relax. I'll keep you safe."
I stepped down from the SUV and did a slow spin as I reached towards the sky in a big stretch. It felt amazing for my back.
Mikko wrapped his hand around my midsection, enclosing me with his arms.
"Don't temp them sweetheart," Mikko whispered in my ear quietly enough that I could hardly hear him. He was doing it for the on lookers.
Somehow I knew that the rogues knew Mikko was a dominate wolf. Me being pregnant might just tempt them into trying out the power of an alpha potential wolf.
I shrugged and resituated my clothes.
"This place is pretty popular among our kind." I gave him a confused glance. Who was he trying to fool? As soon as I stepped inside of the building, any rogues would know I wasn't a werewolf, probably who exactly I am when I'm the pregnant woman around him.
I could feel him access the bond. Somehow I automatically knew he was using pack magic to throw scents off. I didn't smell like a werewolf, but Mikko didn't give off the aura he normally did. He appeared to everyone else to be normal.
It wasn't something heard of very often. Wolves always showed just how bad ass they think they are. It went against everything they felt when they had to tuck away their wolves.
When I felt Mikko let the bond go, I knew that he had implanted those thoughts in my head. He didn't even have to talk to be to make me know what he was thinking. That was mildly frightening. Someday I was going to figure all of that out.
But for now, while I remain a human being, I had more things to focus on than my future of being a werewolf.
I had to focus on this date.
While I could potentially be surrounded by rogue werewolves.
But when we walked through the door, I forgot everything I had been afraid of. The little Italian restaurant was amazing. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy. The glow of candles on the tables and the dim lighting made the place great.
I hadn't been somewhere like this.
"This is one of my favorite places to eat."
"Italian."
He nodded and hailed a server. They did some gesturing between themselves and then we were taken to a table. I halfway expected a crazy amount of romanticism and a reserved table in the back, away from prying eyes...but no. We were seated in a booth surrounded by other people.
The high back booths offered some amount of privacy, but it didn't take away from the intimacy.
I was relived when a younger man came to take our order. I didn't want to have to deal with some girl fawning over Mikko while we were on, what would probably be, our first real date.
The tempo was nice. Mikko could hold a good conversation without letting it get boring. He actually has me laughing at the stories he told me about his brother's antics.
I wished Philip would find someone to make a life with instead of going it all alone. Surprisingly, Mikko agreed. Philip needed a reason to stop bouncing around and settle down. Philip was too old to be running around going from high status in a pack and important, to just running around doing as he pleases because he felt like it.
To say I was surprised was an understatement.
The date was going well, up until someone recognized Mikko.
Mikko stood and sat beside me, effectively cutting off someone who had been walking towards our table. I had assumed the person was either leaving or getting up to use the bathroom. Either way, I hadn't cared.
Not until the person sat down across from us.
His eyes were glowing amber. I grabbed onto Mikko's pant leg as I reacted. He eyed the man down for a moment before he put his hand over mine and addressed the man.
"I've heard a rumor you'd be interested in."
I could feel Mikko's annoyance. "And what rumor would that be little rogue?"
"That your worst enemy is back."
Immediately, I knew. Mikko's biggest enemy was Marshall Alexander had caused many issues throughout the few years. I had heard rumors spread through the grape vine. Marshall had wanted to take my babies away from me.
My grip on Mikko's pant leg tightened.
He wolf smiled at me. "She knows who we're talking about."
Mikko became all business then."You're going to tell me what you know, now."
The wolf's smile sobered as he looked back at Mikko, but he didn't speak.
"Speak." Mikko's voice sounded more like a bark. The listening rogues flinched. The wolf who sought out Mikko flinched. Somehow, I didn't.
"He's heard about her condition." The rogue put necessary emphasis on the one word.
"Her condition?" Mikko's tone made it seem as through he was bored with this conversation.
"The rumors of her second pregnancy with your child has spread like wildfire." The rogue looked over me as though I were his next meal. "You couldn't possibly guard three children and a pregnant woman."
Mikko gave a small huff at the insult. "And it would bother me that a bunch of rogues know about Em? Do you really think you can get to her?"
The rogue put up his hands in surrender. "I'm not saying I'd be the one to try to go against you. But the rogues are gaining followers. There are a lot more of them than you realize."
I stole a glance at Mikko. He was smirking. "It's good that you think that."
Then the tone in the restaurant changed. Mikko let his wolf come near the surface. You could feel the charge in the air. It filled the restaurant. The wolves in the building froze.
I looked around. It really was a werewolf hang out. There were only a couple tables of humans who were still doing their own thing. They were completely oblivious to what was going on around them. I knew it was the pack magic that Mikko bent to make them ignore us.
"If anyone sees him. You contact me immediately." Mikko's voice carried through the restaurant.
The little date was over. I gave a disappointing sigh and looked back at Mikko.
"Nothing will ever be normal." I couldn't keep my disappointment from my voice. I knew that everyone heard me.
"Mikko Madill," the voice of an older woman came through. "You know that's not allowed in this establishment." The graying woman had a hand on her hip and a towel on her shoulder as she walked up to our table.
Mikko nodded at her. "Extenuating circumstances. We had been minding our own business."
She nodded. "And that's the only reason you're not being banned." The woman smiled at me. "You're a legend around these kind." The woman had kind eyes.
She extended her hand to shake, and I reached for it, right up until Mikko grabbed my wrist. He shook his head. "Nice try."
"Let's go home." Mikko climbed out of the booth, but only stepped away enough for me to get out. Mikko handed the woman some money.
The woman smiled and nodded. "To each their own."
Mikko led me in front of him, careful not to let anyone touch me. He kept a hand on my lower back and ushered me out of the restaurant.
"What was that about?" I asked once we were on our way.
"She's a witch. You don't need to be the victim of a witch again."
"That's how she can keep the peace," I realized aloud.
He nodded and started towards home. "I'm sorry this couldn't have ended like a normal date."
I shrugged. "I think it would be wishful thinking to assume that anything would go smoothly between you and I."
He smiled and nodded. Mikko laced his fingers in between mine. We were silent for the rest of the ride home.
