Chapter 2: Adoption...?
Susan P.O.V
I sigh staring at my computer screen. 'Just a few more hours then I'm free...' I thought as I quickly typed. Being an accountant for a large company is tough but hey someone has to do it. As difficult as it is I do love my job. Sure there's the occasional annoying client and stressful assignments but other than that I find it pretty fun. Probably because I'm great at math, every since I was a little girl in fact. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my telephone ringing. I read the name and smile, Cassie. I quickly pick it up "Hello?" I asked. "Hey Sue it's Cassie!" She replied. "Hey what do you need?" I asked and held the phone between my shoulder and ear so I could continue my work. "I was just wondering if you'd like to go to T.G.I.F today. I feel like I haven't seen you in forever!" "Hmm...I don't know. I'm pretty busy.." I trailed off and smirked. "Please please please! It'll be my treat!" She pleaded. I laughed a bit "Alright I'll go." "Yes! You won't regret this Sue!" "Yeah yeah I'll be there by 8." I rolled my eyes. She could be so dramatic sometimes. "Okay bye!!" She yelled. I cringed a bit from her loudness but still smiled. "Bye." I said and hung up.
Finally I finished up my financials and drove back to my condo. I checked the time to see it was 7:56! I didn't have time to change so I grabbed my purse and rushed out the door. 'Cassie's gonna kill me...' I though as I jumped into my car and drove to the restaurant. I walk in and was greeted by the hostess. "Hello welcome to T.G.I Fridays do you have a reservation?" She asked. Before I could answer I hear Cassie yelling from across the restaurant. "Susan over here!" She yelled waving. "I'm with her.." I sighed feeling slightly embarrassed. The hostess smiled and nodded. I quickly walk over to Cassie, she was sitting at the bar. She was wearing a short flowery dress and her hair was in a pony tail. She had red hair, blue eyes and pale skin. I sat on the bar stool next to her. "8:00 huh?" She asked smirking. "Hey I said BY 8, not exactly 8." I argued. "Whatever." She laughed and rolled her eyes. "So anything new happening? Any new guys yet?" She asked wiggling her eyebrows. "No Cass I told you I'm done with relationships." I sighed. She's always been interested in my love life but it seemed like every relationship I'm in ends terribly.
"Susan your a 28 year old woman you gotta find somebody! Your not married, you don't have kids. Heck you don't even have a pet!" "I'm to busy to have a pet." I argued. "Not just a pet, what about kids?" "Well even if, and that's a huge if, I wanted kids I couldn't. Still single remember?" "Well you could always adopt." She shrugged. Adopt....it's an option. But I'm always so busy with work. Would I even be able to take care of a kid...? Maybe a kid is just what I need to get my mind off dating... The bartender came over and gave us our drinks. "You took so long I had to order for you. Don't worry it's your favorite." Cassie said and smiled. I smiled back. Of course she knew, we're best friends. We know nearly everything about each other. It's hard to believe I knew her since elementary school. After our drinks and food came we basically talked most of the time. Catching up and seeing what was new. Before I knew it it was already 10:49. I left a tip, said goodbye to Cassie and got into my car for the 4th time today and drove to my condo.
As soon as I got there I put all my stuff where they belonged, took a shower and checked my emails on my laptop. I couldn't help but think about what Cassie said. Adoption...am I ready to have that responsibility...? I opened a new tab and searched up a adoption website. I clicked the first one that popped up, Mr. Walter's World Wide Orphanage was the name. I typed in my email and my address and my credit card numbers. I scrolled through the site reading almost everything. It seems to be a online orphanage not a real one. There was a small box at the bottom of the page that said 'Type what age he or she should be.' I thought about it for a moment, I should probably get a 10 year old. They should be mature by that age and won't complain too often. I typed in 10 on the box and pressed enter. The site loaded again and another box popped up. It said 'Type what gender he or she should be.' Maybe I should get a girl...no I feel like a girl would be too whiny. Maybe a boy...? I typed in boy and pressed enter. There was a pause as a loading circle appeared. Suddenly the screen filled with pictures of boys around 10 years old. It had their names, personalities, weights, heights everything! I scrolled down the lists and looked mostly at their pictures, names and personalities. One caught my eye... It was a picture of a young boy with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked around 4 in the picture though so that confused me. I read the name...Tommy. There was no personality listed though, almost no information at all. I thought it was just a glitch and refreshed the page but there was still no information. I stared at the picture for a moment. I clicked it and the picture enlarged with some text below it. It read 'Price $1,239 dollars. Will you adopt me?' With a yes and no box on the bottom. I bit my lip as my mouse hovered between the boxes. Over 1,000 dollars are you kidding me? Am I really going to do this... I thought. I'll let fate decide, I closed my eyes and continued to move the mouse. Soon I stopped and clicked the mouse. I took a deep breath and slowly opened my eyes. The screen said 'Congratulations your a parent! Your new child should reach you in 3 days.'
Reach me...? Wait they're sending him? Why don't I pick him up? And just were are they sending him from...? All these questions rushed though my head. Was this a scam? This isn't real. Over 1,000 dollars gone. But what if...it is real.. I thought and looked at the time. Wednesday 11:34, almost midnight. So if this wasn't a scam this kid should reach me by Saturday...
I'm going to be a mom.....
