I
This is the thing:
There's magic all around us.
No, this isn't Harry Potter. There's no quidditch, no snitch, no wands.
Just magic in this story.
How a life went from ordinary to deranged.

"Welcome parents and their children!" A broad voice had announced.
Of course, Leontine walked on, ignoring the happening next door. She had to focus on getting herself to school. Being late meant after school detention, of course. Sitting out of art was also a possibility. She hustled forward. She wasn't exactly exhilarated to get there. She lost track of time thinking about how much she mustn't care about the bigger kids' rude remarks about her leg.
When Leon was born, her right leg was slightly larger in length than her left leg, causing her to limp. All her life, she was made fun of. She had to learn to ignore them. "All they want is attention," Her mother had told her one night, but the teasing was almost all she thought about.
She rolled her eyes and snapped awake. Finding herself in an area surrounded by people, she panicked and looked around. There was a man on a stage in front of her.
"May one young child step up and allow themselves the trouble?" He had said. His voice was thundering but calm and smooth. He seemed affable.
She raised her hand reluctantly.
She looked around and noticed another hand, hovering in the air.
"Both of you?" He inquired.
She was slow to walk up stage.
"You're crazy!" She thought. And she was!
Her mother will be vexed!
The character who followed behind her was about the same age as her. This person was a boy. He had the darkest and messiest of hair and had a perplexed look on his face. He didn't know what was going on and it was true. She didn't either. Who did?
She doubted it was something bad, but you never know.
"Ah, hello my young ones!" The man's voice boomed as she was so close. She backed up, running into the boy behind her.
"Step up. Up, up," He led them up the stage.
Her and the boy stood side by side.
"What're your names?" The man had asked.
"I'm Odysseus," The boy spoke first.
"Leontine," Leon hated saying her full name, but, she had to answer.
"Clever names, you two. Call me Octavian. I will be your leader. You will obey my rules and follow me in battles and adventures. Got that?" I didn't understand "Ocatavian" at all. Nothing made sense. There were no bits and pieces to put together either.
Then, she woke up.
~
The cats were meowing in the kitchen where Mom usually cooks.
Except, these didn't sound like, Fiddles and Jucifer, and Larry. Their meows filled her room.
Alarmed, Leontine sat up and blinked, trying to snap awake.
"This isn't my-" She paused and looked around at the arousing scenery around her. The bookshelves were a light blue. The wood going along with the white walls. Leon's bed had cloud-patterned blankets. She noticed the hovering clouds above her, as well.
"Magic doesn't exist," She thought. It was all pretend. Things the children played when bored.
The door creaked open.
"Uh, Leontine? It's time for breakfast," Odysseus mumbled.
She whipped off the covers, exposing her fully clothed body. She was in pajamas.
"Where's the-"
"Down the hall, first door to the left. Bathroom, right?" He questioned.
"Yeah, thanks," Leon responded, turning red as she stared down at her pajamas.
They were tattered and ragged but a light blue. The soft wool rubbed against her bare body under it.
Odysseus shrugged and turned to walk away.
She wanted to change as fast as she could. Barely standing the softness of the pjs, she found herself a dark purple robe with a patched logo.
Magesteria, it read.
Along with it was a black suit and purple slippers. She took her time putting it on. Under the outfit she found a ripped scroll. Leon was reluctant to lift it up.
Dear Student,
You have volunteered to become a magestanian at Magesteria, school of power and magic. You and you're selected companion will venture beyond life and get ahold of needed items you must bring back in the mortal world. Of course, you must learn safety cautions and rules that must be obeyed. Not obeying these given rules leaves you with a choice of persecution or jail times, depending on the rule that was broken. Contact your current leader and your companion. Please gather your needed items at the assistant guard at the front office.
Have fun and good luck,
Emebral

Clearly confused, Leon walked out of her messy old sleeping room and headed toward the bathroom. She admired the soft clothed outfit. Though, reluctant in believing this was a dream or a nightmare perhaps, she continued on downstairs once finished. She had fixed her unkempt hair and applied water on her face for easy cleaning.
She took a look at the large hall. At the end of the lengthy thing was a swirled staircase.
She heard rustling in the room beside her. As if something was in there. Her heart pumped faster and she trembled with even the slightest of sound. She began pacing forward but paused as the door opened and someone walked out.
"Believe you don't belong here..?" Said a tired voice. Sounding familiar, she turned around. There was a small wrinkled man. "A dwarf!" Leontine had thought.
"I was chosen to be here. I believe if I'm here, I must be wanted," She choked out.
"Ah, of course! Ol' Octavian musta sent ye ol' racket o' bones!" He laughed a gruff laugh.
"What a rather unpleasant rude remark. I mean, you don't look any better than me!" She chuckled as well.
"If you would've asked, the name's Groff," He coughed deeply.
"Uh, Leontine sir," Leon replied.
"What an unusual name, eh? Now get off to the breakfas' downstairs!" He hustled her along as he walked the opposite direction is hurried steps.

Leontine was picky about her food, but at Magesteria, everything seemed perfect, as if they knew everything.
"Clearly mind blowing!" Odysseus had mumbled to Octavian.
"Right a point there, Odysseus!" They both chuckled. Leon stared in disappointment. How could a leader and worker have such in common..?
She chewed quietly, hoping no one would speak to her or ask her any puzzling questions. The dining room was huge and dark. Supposedly every morning breakfast was set on the table. The walls had boring signed banners. Representing Magesteria's different terms. The ceiling had remarkable chandeliers. Multiple of the lights were glass and fancy but dimly lit. In the corner of the room was a door that lead to, most possibly, the kitchen which smelled of hot toast and fully cooked eggs. As well as French toast and syrupy waffles. The table was made of acacia wood from the near forest Octavian told Odysseus and Leon about before. The forest was absolutely forbidden. Leonine took caution and never stepped remotely close to it since yesterday. The table was full of all kinds of superior tasting breakfast entrees. Ham and turkey rested in large plates along with cranberry sauce and all kinds of syrups. Lay next to the dressings, was a big bowl of eggs for anyone who desired some. The food mysteriously stayed hot for quite awhile. Leon piled her plate hit of ham and potato. Cranberry sauce and chocolate syrup. Waffles and pancakes set under the eggs. Bacon was on a separate shiny plate. She drank a nice warm cup of cocoa. After the feast, she licked her lips and stood beside Odysseus for their task.
"First, you must see Emebral," He had said, broadly.
Leon and Odysseus glanced at eachother and listened to Octavian's directions.
They were slow down the corridor, and were ready to see the "Queen".
