Chapter 40
Midoriya's POV
Blood.
Copious amounts were splattered on the floor. Some of it was even mine.
Kacchan fought off three Nomu's at once. An impressive stance considering some pros were having a hard time dealing with just one.
Aizawa, Present Mic, Midnight, Endeavor, and Hawks focused on the villains. The rest of us taking down the Nomu's.
A couple of my fingers were busted and blood trickling down the side of my face warned me I had a head injury.
"Are you really just going to sit there and let your boy toy die, Midoriya?" Shigaraki taunted.
I felt myself shake, a cold chill run up my spine. No matter what happened, I couldn't let them hurt anyone I care about. Anyone here for that matter. If I hadn't been so foolish, none of us would be in this predicament.
I tried to fight my way through the Nomu's, giving it about fourty percent, but I feared of going higher. I could knock myself out and then I really would be useless.
Two Nomu's approached me from both sides, I bent down low, powering One For All into my legs in preparation for their strike. They came at me fast and without hesitation. When they both reached me at the same time, I jumped high and the Nomus slammed into each other. I flipped in the air to gain speed and quickly kicked down, destroying the both of them while they were distracted.
From the corner of my eye, I saw smoke coming out of my father's mouth and I knew I had to be quick about this, unless I wanted something bad to happen to Kiri.
With the two Nomus down, I noticed a slight path leading up to Kiri within the fighting and took a chance. I kicked off the ground as hard as I could and made it down the slim path of bodies on the ground and fighting that still continued.
Kiri was within reach at this point, Shigaraki was so focused on watching some of the other pros that he didn't see me approaching so quickly. This is my chance to get him away from there.
"Izuku!" Kacchan yelled. I turned to look at him, but my skin was on fire, bloody and raw blisters appeared on my left arm and side. The blue flames easily chewed through my clothes exposing the tainted skin. I cried out in pain and fell to the ground clutching at the left side of my stomach where thick raw skin was exposed, heat rolling off it in waves.
I looked at the culprit and saw Dabi, flames still in hand. "Nice try, kid."
Kacchan ran to my side quickly and from my cry, Todoroki ran as well.
"Midoriya!" Kaminari called, but him and Shinso were preoccupied and couldn't get to us. I had no clue where Aizawa and Present Mic were, probably amidst the crowd fighting with everything they've got against these villains.
"Poor Izuku. You're turning out to be a pathetic excuse of a successor," my father said. Him and Shigaraki were now focused on us and I watched their grip on Kirishima tighten. "Does your little boy toy know your secret? How disappointing you really are to rely on someone else for a quirk?"
"Shut the hell up!" Kacchan yelled. I froze and looked down at my blood covered hands that were still pressed firmly against the burns, even though it didn't relieve any of my pain.
"What's he talking about, Midoriya?" Todoroki asked from beside me.
"Mind your own damn business, Icyhot!"
Todoroki glared at him, but kept quiet. He focused on helping me by using his right side to help cool off the burns. I whimpered a little from the pain, but said nothing.
"So not even your closest friend knows? Izuku, Izuku, how ashamed they must feel of you. They don't even know the truth about you. You've betrayed their trust."
"No," I whispered, trying not to listen to his words, but they were piercing me. It kills me inside everyday to have to keep my quirk a secret from the people I care about, but it's not just my secret to keep.
"Don't listen to him! He doesn't know a damn thing!" Kacchan yelled and explosions came off his hands aggressively.
"I know how much a freak, bastard of a son he is! Oh so desperate to get a quirk he practically begged for it."
"N-No! That's not what happened!" I said in a shaky voice, but still not looking at anyone. It felt like I was trying to convince myself more than anyone else.
"What do you think got your mother killed, Izuku? Your desperation for a quirk led you to gravel on the floor like the useless bastard you are and left your mother for dead!" He yelled.
"Like you have fucking room to talk, asshole!" Kacchan yelled.
My father gave Kacchan a hard look that sent a shiver down my spine.
"Watch it boy, or I might do something you'll regret," he said, fire coming off his breath in Kiri's direction. He flinched.
Kacchan growled, but kept silent. I stood on shaky legs, Todoroki standing with me. The burn still hurt, but I was less bothered by it at this point.
The only thing I care about is getting Kirishima out of this situation.
"Don't go growing a back bone now, boy. You know what I want, just give up and maybe I'll spare your toy." His cold eyes were focused on me, daring me to go against him. He knows I can't win, not with him as my opponent.
I've been able to handle everything the League of Villains throws at me and overcome it all, but this...I-I can't!
"Like hell!" Kacchan yelled.
"Perhaps I can give you a little motivation."
He burned Kirishima on the upper arm. Kiri screamed in blood curdling agony. He looked unable to activate his quirk to protect himself and so the burns deepened, turning different and vibrant shades of red. It's tearing at the skin, leaving his arm bloodied and blistered.
He tried to fight, I could see the tears rolling down his face and he tried to jerk free, but his body had been through enough and he couldn't get out of their grip.
"Eijiro!" Kacchan yelled. He was pale and I saw tears prickle the corners of his eyes. He knew that if he took one step closer, Shigaraki will kill him, without hesitation. "You bastard!"
"Stop! Let him go!"
"He didn't do anything to you!"
"You won't get away with this!" Voices shouted from all around me, all noticing the situation and the seemingly helpless spot we were in.
I place my hands in my hair roughly, pulling harshly, mixing more blood into my hair but not caring. The voices just blended together, I couldn't make out any of them. I just keep hearing Kiri scream.
His voice was cracking and breaking from the strain, reaching volumes I never knew it could. It was pure agony and there was nothing more that I wished for than for it to stop. To allow me to take his place.
It's me who should be suffering! Not him!
"Stop it! Please stop! I-I'll do anything you want just please stop hurting h-him!" I yelled, tears flowing down my own face.
He stopped and now I could only hear Kiri's sobbing. "Good. Come here, slowly," my father said.
"Izuku, don't you dare!" Kacchan snarled.
I walked over to Kacchan first and hugged him. "I'm not going to let him get hurt anymore than he is. This is my problem, please Kacchan."
"No, Izuku-"
I smiled. "It's okay." My voice cracked. "I knew one day it would come to this and if I can help Kiri, please let me."
Kacchan squeezed his eyes shut and looked away.
I faced Shigaraki and Hisashi. "You'll let him go?" I asked.
"Of course."
I took a deep breath.
"Izu, no!" Kiri yelled, but Shigaraki tightened his grip on him as a warning.
I just kept smiling walking slowly up to him.
"Problem child. What the hell do you think you're doing?" Aizawa's voice reached my ears from behind me, but I didn't turn to him.
"Izuku, wait!" Present Mic called, but I ignored him.
Both of them must have made it through the others and finally reached us, but it was too late. I made my choice. Kiri is more important.
I was only a few feet away from them now and I stood still. "Let him go."
"That was the deal." Both him and Shigaraki shoved him roughly and he fell off to the side. "Toga."
My eyes widened, Toga came from nowhere and closed in on Kiri.
"Eijiro!" I yelled and tried to run towards him, but Hisashi grabbed me and Shigaraki kept me in place.
No one else could reach him in time either before Toga took her knife and shoved it roughly into Kiri's right side. He screamed and everyone ran to him quickly.
Kacchan was the first to reach him and used his quirk to drive Toga into a wall where she slid down the side of it .
"You promised you wouldn't hurt him!" I yelled.
"I said I would let him go, I have no control over what happens to him afterwards," he smiled, amused.
Kacchan held Kiri in his arms, his body limp.
There was a burning in my chest and my stomach turned. My mouth tasted sour and spoiled like I was about to vomit and I felt dizzy. My vision blurred from tears. I heaved, my breath uneven and ragged sounding.
Adrenaline pumped through my veins.
My fists curled, green electricity coming off me.
"What the fuck-" I punched Hisashi square in the face and he fell to the floor abruptly. He grunted and looked at me for a moment. His eyes squinted in anger and face turned red.
Shigaraki tried to grip onto me, but I quickly jumped in the air out of his reach. The skin that was burned cracked and bled, but I didn't feel anything.
Kacchan looked up at me, tears pouring out of his eyes. It only fueled the anger in me.
Kacchan knew what I was up to. He passed Kiri over to Kaminari who was also bawling his eyes out beside Shinso, and stood. Todoroki followed Kacchan, the two getting in a battle stance.
I nodded in their direction, the three of us ready.
I turned a few times in the air to gain momentum and powered One For All in my legs to come crashing down.
Shigaraki's eyes widened when he realized what was happening, but my father just scowled.
"Come at me! You can't do it! You're too much of a coward!" He shouted.
Not this time. Not after what you did to Eijiro.
The three of us launched our attack, Shigaraki trying to get out of the way, but Hisashi just prepared himself, ready to fight.
It was no use. Three of us came down on them with full force. The ground crumbled beneath us and large cracks ran in several directions from where our attack had landed.
I felt the bone in my ankle snap, almost like a twig, but I was numb to the pain.
Dust and dirt that got stirred up made it hard to see and breathe. I couldn't tell if our attack had struck them.
"Midoriya!" Todoroki called. A sharp pain shot through my head and everything was blurry. Tears still fell down my puffed and red cheeks, making my vision even worse.
My body felt weak and limp and it was hard to even lift up my arm.
"Izuku! What were you thinking?!" Kacchan knelt in front of me and held my swaying shoulders still.
"K-Kiri. Is he o-okay?" I mumbled, my words a bit slurred.
"I-I-" I couldn't make out Kacchan's expression, I could barely see his silhouette in front of me.
I sobbed from the implications of his words.
"We need to worry about you right now. You shouldn't have used your quirk like that. Eijiro will be fine," he said, but I could hear him breaking.
"N-No, Kiri-"
"Is already being taken care of," a new voice said. "We need to get you to the hospital," Aizawa said.
My eyes rolled to the back of my head and my body grew limp.
Then, it was dark.
