Chapter 23
Midoriya's POV
"How are you feeling, young Midoriya?" All Might had asked me.
We currently are out in one of the training fields, continuing my practice with One For All.
My injuries were completely healed at this point and so All Might figured it would be good to continue my training.
"I'm doing better." I said, smiling at him.
"That's good to hear. You gave us quite the fright while on the field trip." He said.
I looked down at my feet. "I know. I'm sorry to worry everyone."
All Might put his hand on my shoulder. "No need to apologize. I'm just glad you're okay."
"Thanks."
He smiled at me. "Alright. I think that is enough training for today. Remember to work on those leg muscles, it'll come in handy for later on." He said.
"Okay, bye All Might!" I waved goodbye to my idol and headed back to the dorms.
Everyone else should be there, classes have been over for awhile and so I would think most are there waiting for dinner to be made, especially since it's Kacchan's night to make dinner.
Everyone loves his cooking. He's definitely the best in the class.
After a five minute walk from one of the training centers, I made it back to the dorms.
"Hey Deku!" Uraraka shouted. Her and some other classmates were in the common area, playing an xbox game.
"Hey Uraraka!" I greeted back and took a seat next to her.
"Hey Midoriya, where have you been?" Tsu asked me.
"Oh, just out doing some training."
"I hope you're not pushing yourself too hard again." Iida commented.
I shook my head. "I wasn't. I was out training with a teacher, so no need to get worried."
"Was it All Might?" Todoroki asked.
I turned slightly red at being caught.
All Might doesn't want a ton of people knowing I train separately with him. It'll make the others suspicious and even jealous that they might do something they'll regret.
"W-What? No! I-It wasn't A-All Might." I stuttered, now focusing on my hands.
Todoroki eyed me suspiciously before dropping the conversation.
"Hey everyone!" Kirishima and Kaminari both entered the room together.
"Where have you two been?" Mina asked.
"In the kitchen, bugging Bakubro." Kaminari responded, taking a seat beside me on the floor, followed by Kirishima.
"I would watch it. He might spit in your food." Jiro commented.
"Nah, all he did was throw a jar of hot sauce at me." Kaminari said.
The others laughed, probably imagining Kacchan throwing hot sauce at Kaminari.
"Is that why there is hot sauce in your hair." Shinso seemed to appear out of nowhere from behind the couch.
Kaminari turned and smiled widely at him. "Yeah. Just my luck, the jar was open."
"I think Kat opened it first before throwing it at you." Kirishima stated.
"Ooh. That's why it splattered so badly." Kaminari realized.
Shinso shook his head and took a seat on the ground. He was stuck next to Kirishima seeing as there was no open spots for him next to Kaminari.
"Midoriya. You outta take a shower. You're covered in dirt." Shinso said after glancing at me.
I sighed. "Yeah, I am a little sore, so that will probably help too. I'll be back!" I told the group before getting up and rushing to my dorm to pick up some clothes.
"Hurry! I heard Bakugou is making katsudon!" Uraraka shouted.
That only made me pick up the pace more. No way was I gonna miss something so delicious.
I quickly made it to my dorm and ran into my bathroom, turning the water on as I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the water.
My body instantly relaxed. I have always enjoyed showers. It's the perfect place to think.
Though, sometimes my thoughts are not always too kind.
For instance. Whenever I am alone or maybe not engaged in the conversation around me, then my mind has a habit of wandering to what that man in black said.
It's the only thing that constantly lingers on my mind since my encounter with him.
"You disgusting slut. Your mother dying is entirely your fault. You killed her, she died in your care and you did nothing to save her. You're cursed. Everyone you love will die. Anyone who has any contact with you will die an excruciating death just like your poor, neglected mother did. It's so pitiful, the fact that so many innocent lives will be taken, while your ugly, unworthy ass still walks the planet, but don't worry. I'll fix that problem. It'll be too easy, not even your friends or your father will mourn your death...."
I shuddered at the memory of what that man said. The fact he knew how my mother died, startled me.
He said more afterwards, but my mind had shut down at that point and I don't remember clearly everything else he said.
But I know he was not wrong. It is my fault my mother died. If only I had been a better son, maybe I could've saved her. I am cursed. Those who love me will die and there is nothing I can do about it.
Except to leave.
If I left, disappeared, died, then the ones I love won't die. They'll continue to live happily.
Kirishima and Kacchan wouldn't have to worry about me anymore and I wouldn't have to worry about them.
It would be peaceful for everyone.
That man made his statement like a threat. That I was cursed.
That if I didn't die, then he would hurt the ones I cared about. My classmates.
My mother's blood is on my hands and that is how I am cursed, because I didn't save her so my punishment is to either die, or watch those I care about die in my place.
Obviously, the answer is clear. I won't let others suffer for my mistakes.
It's bad enough my dad has to go through the rest of his life without my mom there with him.
"Midoriya?" Someone knocked on my bathroom door.
Oh no. How long have I been standing in the shower?
The water was icy cold and so I am going to assume awhile.
I turned the water off quickly, wrapped a towel around my waist and opened the door.
Kirishima and Kacchan both stood outside of my bathroom.
I noticed how both boys eyed down my body and rested slightly to where my towel was currently covering.
I squeaked in embarrassment and hid behind the door where only my head popped out from behind of. My face was beet red as I stared at the ground.
"Uh." Kirishima was the first to snap out of his daze. "Sorry Midoriya. Uh, we came up to check on you since dinners been ready for several minutes now."
"O-Oh, sorry. I got distracted. U-Uhm, I'll be down in a minute." I told the two boys.
"We'll wait outside the door for you." Kacchan said, then proceeded to pull Kirishima out of the room and shut the door behind them.
I sighed. That was embarrassing.
I dried myself off and got changed.
My mind wandering to what just happened.
They were staring at me. Like, actually, flat out staring at me when I was only in a towel.
What does that mean? Do they like me?
No, no. That's impossible. They're dating, they couldn't like me.
Besides, I would never want to come between them. It would be wrong of me. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if they ended up splitting because of me.
Just like Kacchan had said, the two boys waited outside my dorm room for me.
When they saw me they smiled. I smiled back, but my face grew flush again and I looked down.
"Come on. Let's go before our food gets cold." Kacchan said and the three of us went down to the dining room.
The first thing I noticed as we wanted the dining room is that everyone was already digging into their dinner. Thoroughly enjoying it.
The next thing I noticed is that my friend group and Kacchan's friend group was sitting together, all talking and laughing.
A part of me felt like I had missed something because even though they all are friends, they've never been this chummy before.
I took a seat next to Todoroki and across from Uraraka and Iida.
Uraraka was in an interesting conversation with Tsu and Mina while Iida was mostly just sitting there eating, but occasionally would make a comment towards Sero and Kaminari's conversation.
Todoroki sat silently as always, but greeted me when I sat down.
Kacchan sat beside me and Kirishima next to him.
The two groups had combined.
Not that I minded. I am so glad my friends and Kirishima and Kacchan's friends were getting along so well.
It made me feel less guilty for spending a lot more time with Kacchan and Kirishima than everyone else.
"Oh, there you guys are. We were wondering what was taking so long." Kaminari said. Shinso, who sat beside Kaminari, looked up at us and threw us a look of concern.
I smiled at him to let him know everything was fine.
He nodded and went back to his phone.
"Stop looking at that thing and join the conversation!" Kaminari ripped Shinso's phone out of his hand.
"Kaminari. Give me my phone back." Shinso said calmly, but with a bit of intimidation.
Kaminari just smiled cheekily at him. "Only if you promise to join the conversation."
Shinso rolled his eyes. "I'd much rather be on my phone." He said.
"Then I'm not giving it back." Kaminari commented then proceeded to sit on top of his phone.
"Denki!" Shinso shouted.
My attention was stripped from the two arguing boys when I felt someone tap my arm.
I looked over and saw Todoroki gazing at me.
"Todoroki? Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Yeah. I wanted to ask you something."
"Okay?" I tilted my head to the side in confusion.
He lowered his voice and got slightly closer to me. "So. Kirishima and Bakugou?" He asked.
"What?" I asked, actually confused.
Todoroki rolled his eyes. "The three of you have been rather close lately." He said.
My face went red. "I-I don't know what you're talking about."
He gave me a pointed look. "I'm not blind. I see the way you look at the both of them."
I shrink into myself and looked down, my face still bright red.
"Is that bad?" I asked. The last thing I wanted was to be the disgusting weirdo that may have feelings for two people that are already dating.
"You mean liking two people?" He questioned.
I nodded my head.
"No. There's nothing wrong with that. You like who you like. It's just how it is."
"But they're dating each other. I don't want to come in between them."
Todoroki chuckled.
"W-What's so funny?"
"I think you don't have to worry about that." He commented with a small smile.
I turned around to look at the other two. They were holding hands and talking. When Kirishima noticed me staring, he smiled at me, which caused Kacchan to turn around and look at me as well.
"Almost done? Kat and I were thinking of playing a game before bed. Want to join?"
I smiled at them. "Yeah, sounds fun."
