Lila counted to five after she heard a knock on her door to give her time to calm her racing heart. Then she straightened out her shirt, checked her hair, made sure her sleeves were down, and shook her entire body to try and release her nerves.
Only then did she open the door.
Immediately her breath was stolen.
Wooyoung beamed at her and held up another rose for her. "Hey."
Lila blushed and took it from him. "Hey. What are those?" She asked, noticing the shopping bags in his other hand.
"I hope you don't mind, but I thought I would hold your kitchen hostage for the evening." He gave her a crooked smile. "May I come in?"
"Oh! Of course, I'm sorry." Lila backed away from the door so he could come in and pointed him to the kitchen.
He walked in and immediately made himself at home, putting away cold things in the fridge and organizing other items on the counter.
"So what are you making?" Lila asked, poking around in the bags.
"Nope! You don't get to see in my goody bags. Shoo!" Wooyoung laughed, pushing her out of the kitchen. "It's a surprise. Do you have any food allergies?"
She shook her head in response as she moved to sit at the bar that separated her kitchen from her living room. Suddenly everything felt so natural as she watched him. Her nerves started to fade.
"Where's your biggest pan?"
"Corner cabinet."
"Ah, the one place I hadn't looked yet. This is a nice apartment." Wooyoung said, looking around as the pan started to heat up on the stove.
"Thanks, it's modest and a little small for me. But it works. For now. I was surprised I actually found something in my price range." Lila laughed, thinking about how long she had looked for an apartment of any kind in L.A. "San had offered for me to move in with him, but I'm pretty sure we'd kill each other if we actually lived together."
"He definitely has a lot of energy. He was a great source of entertainment on set most days. If we ever had a bad day on set, both Yeosang and I always sought him out."
"Hey speaking of Yeosang." Lila said, adding a playful tone to her voice. "Is he single?"
"Yeah, he is at the moment." Wooyoung didn't look up from the recipe he was reading.
"Good, because he is super attractive."
That did it. Wooyoung turned to look at her and arched an eyebrow as if to say 'your point?'
Lila just gave him a smirk. "You don't think he'd be willing to go on a date..."
"Really? Did the flowers and the letter I wrote-"
"With San, do you?" Lila finished her statement then pressed her lips together to try and fight her smile.
Wooyoung froze and his mouth dropped open.
Unable to hold it any longer, Lila burst out laughing. "I got you! You should see your face right now."
"Now that wasn't fair! You set me up for that." He said, turning red and getting flustered. He muttered to himself for a few minutes as Lila continued to poke fun at him. But once she stopped, he finally commented on what she had said. "So did San put you up to asking me about Yeosang?"
"Would it matter if he did?"
"Probably not." He looked over his shoulder and smiled. "I'll see what Yeosang thinks, but I have a feeling he is going to be ok with it. He was pretty happy when he found out you two were just friends."
Lila felt her heart start to race again as he returned to his work. She picked up the new rose and brought it to her nose, inhaling slowly. She couldn't believe she had freaked out last night. Her eyes dropped to her wrists and she bit the inside of her cheek.
"Hey, you ok?" Wooyoung asked. His forehead was creased with worry as he watched her.
"Yeah, yeah! I'm great." Lila said, quickly smiling and leaning against the bar while playing with her rose.
He didn't look like he believed her, but she was thankful when he let it slide as he continued to cook.
They chatted comfortably while he did, never touching on major subjects. She found out that cooking was something he did to relax after a long day, but that he also enjoyed dancing at home too. He was happiest when he was on the dance floor.
She told him that for the longest time it was her dream to publish a book, but she had really bad writer's block at the moment and she wasn't sure where she wanted to go with it.
"Open." Wooyoung said suddenly, offering her a spoon with the sauce he was working on. Lila blushed, but did as he asked. "Don't give up on what you like to do. If it makes you happy, then you should do everything you can to fight for it."
Lila closed her eyes as the flavorful sauce slid down her throat. She could taste cream and mushrooms and cheese, along with a mix of seasonings she wasn't experienced enough to pick out. "Wow. That is amazing!"
"Thank you." Wooyoung's eyes lit up as he watched her. "It's almost done." He hummed as he turned back around.
She watched as he placed a chicken breast and some mashed potatoes, then drizzled the sauce all over it before sprinkling some shredded cheese. He had also prepared a salad too.
Lila felt the now familiar warmth spread through her as she set the table and they sat down to eat. It was the best meal she had had in a long time, and she couldn't help but tell him several times. He would just laugh and wave her off and tell her it was nothing.
"It's really not." She said as she finished up. "No one has ever done anything like this for me before, so thank you."
"Oh come on," Wooyoung said as they both stood and took their plates to the kitchen. "I'm sure you had boyfriends in high school who would have done something similar for you."
"No, I've never actually had a boyfriend before." Lila found herself confessing as started to scrub the pan he used. "I mean, I-I've dated, sure. But it's n-never been anything long term."
"How come?"
Lila thought about how she would always get inside her head... That was what ruined everything... "I don't know." She said instead.
Then she turned around and nearly ran into him.
Wooyoung was standing right in front of her. When she saw the look on his face, her heart jumped to her throat. The corners of his mouth were tilted ever so slightly in a smile, and the laugh lines he got from smiling were forming at his eyes. He reached up and played with the end of her hair, twisting a small chunk of it around his finger.
"Well they were idiots. But at the same time, I'm ok with that because..."
Lila was locked in his gaze. She noticed just how beautiful his eyes were tonight. He had in a pair of silvery-grey contacts that were just... perfect.
They leaned closer together and his and travelled higher to caress the sided of her neck. It sent chills down her spine and she closed her eyes.
"You're beautiful." He whispered.
Too scared to open her eyes, Lila just leaned into his touch a little more. She could tell his touch was hesitant as his other hand came up to rest on her waist. He was testing the waters, which she appreciated, but part of her wanted him to dive right in.
"Is... Is this too much?" He asked, his voice so soft she almost didn't hear him. She could feel his warm breath on her skin. It made her shiver, but she shook her head no at the same time.
"N-No."
"Do I make you nervous?" He increased the pressure from the hand on her neck, letting the pad of his thumb trace her jawline.
"Kind of." She said truthfully as she brought a hand up to place it on his chest. His heart was pounding in time with hers.
"You make me nervous too."
Just as she was about to open her eyes, she felt his lips on hers. It was soft and gentle, reflecting his nerves. It was like he was worried she would push him away.
But her body reacted the other way. Her hand fisted his shirt while her other one snaked around the back of his neck. A small sound came from the back of her throat as it felt like fire flowed through her veins.
At her touch, he pressed his lips against hers a little harder, tilting his head ever so slightly. His hand on her waist moved to her back so he could hold her close.
After what felt like an eternity, but not long enough at the same time, Wooyoung finally pulled back a little so they could look at each other again. "I've been wanting to do that since I met you last night."
Lila bit her lip. "I've been wanting to do that a lot longer, but for an entirely different reason." She said with a light chuckle. He smiled back. It was the first time either of them had brought up their 'social standing', but it seemed to fit in this situation.
Then he let out a nervous laugh. "I don't even know what to say right now. But I do know that I want to see you again."
"You make it sound like you're leaving." Lila felt her heart sink a little.
"I... Well... I didn't want to presume..."
"So you're an eat and run kind of guy?"
"What? No! I didn't mean... It's just..."
Lila kissed him again and he froze at the action. "You're cute when you get flustered." She teased, and giggled when a soft shade of pink crossed his face. "I want to see you again too, but I'm also not ready for you to leave yet."
"Good, because I brought dessert." He winked. "Would you like to maybe watch a movie or something?"
She nodded and went to go pull out her selection, trying to find something that would peak both of their interests. Her embarrassment meter rose when she realized that most of her movies were romantic comedies and she quickly tried to hide those.
In the end, she picked a comedy, wanting something that would keep the mood light and not try to imply anything. As she got the disc into her dvd player, Wooyoung walked out with a small cheesecake.
"Did you make that too?" She gasped, feeling her mouth water slightly.
"No, Seonghwa did. He said targeting a girl's sweet tooth is always a good idea." Wooyoung said with a slight pout. "Like I didn't know what I was doing." He grumbled.
Lila wanted nothing more than to run up to him and kiss him again and tell him how adorable he looked right now, but she restrained herself. So instead, she walked forward and dipped her finger in one of the whipped cream dollops on top and touched his nose with it. "Well he was right, tell him thank you."
Wooyoung was now bright red as he whipped his nose. "A-Am I going to have to worry about you being attracted to all my friends?"
"If they are all as good looking as you? Probably." Lila tapped her chin and stared at the ceiling. "Although, Seonghwa is pretty at-"
Wooyoung stood up and pulled her to the couch, locking his arms around her stomach. "Don't you dare finish that sentence." There was a slight growl to his tone, but a wide smile on his face.
Lila shivered and bit her lip again. "Ok, I won't." She smirked as they shifted so they were just sitting next to each other.
Wooyoung pulled the cheesecake closer and offered her the first bite, guiding the fork into her mouth. Damn Seonghwa could bake, but she didn't dare utter that aloud.
If she was being honest, she found it incredibly attractive that Wooyoung gave off jealous vibes. It meant that she had ammo to use against him, but she also knew that if this, whatever this was, went anywhere... Then she wouldn't have to worry about anything happening with him and someone else.
And god she hoped this went somewhere.
As the movie progressed, she found herself sneaking glances up at him. He kept his arm around her the entire movie. She noticed him occasionally turning to look at her too.
It was a comfortable, peaceful evening that ended up turning into two movies because neither one of them wanted it to end.
Lila stopped giving up on trying to convince herself that this was a dream. Instead, she told herself to just enjoy it and take things one step at a time. There was no saying what was going to happen, and she knew it would be hard, but if he was willing to try and make this work, then so was she.
