When it ended, everyone stood a clapped. Lila leaned over to San, "Sannie! That was amazing! You deserve an award for some of the work you did."
He visibly blushed, but still gave her a grateful smile as everyone who worked on the movie started to turn and congratulate each other. It was obvious just how much they loved working on it together.
As the theater started to clear, Lila looped her are with San's so he could lead her to their next destination. It ended up being a large banquet hall. A few tables were set up along the sides so people could sit if they wanted to and the entire back wall had tables and trays full of food.
Lila arched her eyebrows and glanced at her friend.
"What?" He asked, pulling her out of the way.
"I don't know, I guess I was expecting something... fancier?" She chuckled a little, especially when he started to laugh too.
"That makes sense. Some premiers will do that, but our director likes us being so close knit, so he wants us to be able to mingle whenever possible."
Lila was just about to speak when her stomach grumbled. She bit her lip and laughed as San automatically pulled her toward the tables of food.
A few people had already made their way over there too, so she didn't feel quite as bad as she started to fill her plate with food. She stuck mostly to fruit, but there were fancier things further down she vowed she would try later.
Music started at one point and several people started to dance at one end of the hall. Lila found herself smiling as she watched the couples spin in circles.
She followed San around as he mingled and continued to introduce her to a few of his coworkers. Everyone was so nice and did their best to make her feel welcome, but at one point she started to feel a little left out. Especially because all they would do was talk about making the movie.
Soon her gaze started to wander and she found herself searching the room for a particular head of blonde hair.
Instead, she noticed Yeosang walking in her direction. "Fancy running into you here, Ms. James." He gave her a kind smile. She felt San tense next to her. "Ah! Are you here with San?" A small smile crossed his face.
"Yes. He basically kidnapped me." Lila poked her friend's side, trying to get him to relax. Why was he acting like this? "And please, call me Lila."
Yeosang nodded and turned to San. "And how do you happen to know Lila? I didn't know you were seeing anyone."
"I... No... It's not." San sputtered, his head whipping back and forth between Yeosang and Lila.
"We're not together. San and I have been friends since we were kids." She stepped in for him and San gave her a grateful nod.
Something flashed across Yeosang's eyes as he processed what she said. "Well. It was nice to see you again." He just gave them a slight bow before walking back into the crowd.
The pair watched him go. San slide his hand down Lila's arm to take hers.
Suddenly she found herself smirking and she rounded on him. "You like him!"
San turned to her and shook his head quickly. "Don't be silly. I'm just star struck like you will be here shortly. Bye!" He said quickly and hurried away from her.
"San!" Lila hissed, trying to follow him, but then she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder.
She turned and her heart jumped into her throat.
"Yeosang told me you were here. Are you stalking us?" Wooyoung asked with a slight smirk.
Lila felt weak at the knees as she took him in. He looked even more stunning close up. She inhaled shakily, trying to calm herself. "N-No. I'm here with-"
"San. I saw." His smirk vanished as he glanced in the direction the stylist had gone. "And you're just friends?"
Lila hesitated. Did Yeosang come over just to check on that? Wooyoung almost looked... nervous. "Yes. We are friends."
A small look of relief seemed to cross Wooyoung's face and he glanced at the front of the room. "Would you like to dance?"
"Yes." Lila said, almost too quickly and she covered her mouth with her hand. He just gave her a soft smile and held out his arm. She linked it with hers and he led her to the floor.
She had to keep reminding herself to breathe. Breathe...
There was no way this was actually happening. She was not walking to a dance floor with Wooyoung, She was dreaming, this had to be a dream.
He placed a hand on the small of her back and pulled her closer as he started to spin her around the floor.
"So I wanted to thank you again." Wooyoung said after a few minutes, finally causing Lila to look up at him.
"Oh, you don't need to thank me, I was just doing that job. I hope you enjoy the article when it comes out."
He chuckled and shook his head. "Not for the article. For not outing me yesterday. Not everyone would have done that. Especially someone who had an interview with me later that day."
Lila felt herself blushing a little as he continued to spin her slowly in circles. "It's not that big of a deal."
"It was to me." He paused and lowered his voice. "Why did you do it?"
His question surprised her. Had he really had that poor of interaction with fans or press? "It was obvious that you didn't want to be noticed. Everyone deserves their privacy. I know you get less of it than most people, so I didn't want to spoil that for you." She answered, glancing down at the floor as she spoke. "It's not right that you are expected to be paraded around on camera when you aren't filming. You are a human being too."
Wooyoung's grip on her tightened and he pulled her a little closer. "Thank you." He said again, and she could hear the sincerity in his voice.
She didn't dare look up, knowing it would probably make her blush even more.
When the song ended, Lila started to step away and thank him for the dance, but he interrupted her. "Let's go get a drink." He didn't wait for her to answer as he pulled her over to the bar.
They never made it, however.
Wooyoung's costar stepped in front of them. "Youngie!" She said in a sing-song voice. "They need us for some pictures." Her eyes flashed to Lila's and they narrowed. Besides the slight glare, she really was gorgeous. She had beautiful, light brown hair and a slim body that most girls would kill for. Her silver dress was stunning.
"Ok, I'll be there in a minute Rachel."
She flashed once more look at Lila before spinning and during away.
"Dammit." Wooyoung hissed. He started to pat his chest and pants as if he were looking for something.
"It's ok. I should go find San." Lila said, working hard to hide her disappointment. She didn't want this to end.
He paused, then smiled as he pulled her purse off her arms. Lila wanted to protest, but he turned to her and said, "Stay." Then he disappeared behind a group of people.
What. Just. Happened??
She was so stunned, she actually listened to him and just stood there and let people walk around her as she tried to figure out what was going on.
Wooyoung returned a short minute later and handed her purse back to her and flashed her a crooked smile. He didn't say anything as he watched her mouth open and close a few times in shock. Then he leaned forward and kissed her cheek. "Thanks for the dance."
Heat rushed to her face and her skin seemed to burn where he had touched her.
Before she could respond, he was gone again.
She felt someone take her hand and pull her to the side of the room, but she couldn't register who it was or what was going on. Something waved in front of her face. A dull thudding sounded echoed in her ears.
Slowly, her hand came up and brushed against her cheek.
It was official. She was definitely dreaming.
The thudding continued. Lila blinked several times and her vision started to clear as she realized it was San trying to get her attention. "Hello! Earth to Lila!" He had the dopiest smile on his face and Lila suddenly wanted nothing more than to slap it off.
It was obvious that he had seen what had happened.
"Yup. Definitely star struck." He smirked. "Come on, things are starting to wrap up so let's duck out of here to beat the traffic."
Lila followed without complaint. She was still positive that she was dreaming, so it didn't really matter what happened now.
Before she knew it, San was leading her to her front door and into her apartment. "Are you going to be ok?" He asked, a small smirk still on his face.
"Yeah, I just need to sleep. I think." Lila rubbed her head. Now that she was home she realized just how tired she was. "Thanks, San. That was really fun."
"Was it? I know it was a lot to take in, especially since you didn't know anyone." He pursed his lips and studied her face.
"Yes, it was." Lila hugged him.
San waited for her to change out of the dress so he could get it cleaned and returned to wardrobe. Once he left, Lila when to her bathroom to start taking her makeup off and get ready for bed. As she slipped under the covers, she reached for her purse to pull out her phone to plug it in.
A piece of paper fell onto her covers. It had been ripped from the small notebook she always carried on her.
Written on it was a phone number and the initials J.W.Y.
"No way." Lila gasped. "I'm still dreaming. Yeah, yeah, that's it." She reached up to pinch her arm, yelping when it hurt. "No way!" She threw the paper away from her.
It fell to the bed, taunting her with the delicate numbers written on it.
After staring at it for a long time, Lila slowly pulled it back to her and unlocked her phone. As she pulled up a text message, she typed in the number and each time it felt like it was stamped into her heart.
Not sure what to say, she just sent a text with her name.
"There's no way he's going to respond. What am I even saying?! There's no way this is actually his number!" Lila locked her phone and flopped back on her pillow. "And now you're talking to yourself, just great Li. You're going insane, it's official. What's the- Ah!"
She yelped when her phone dinged. Why did she have to be so jumpy all the time?
Unknown
I see you found my note.
Lila
I did.
Unknown
Where do you live?
Lila
...
Why?
Lila felt her mouth open. If this was really Wooyoung, why did he want to know where she lived?
Unknown
Just tell me.
Not fully understanding why she did it, she sent her address to him. Her heart was pounding the entire time as she stared at her screen. Then it stopped when three dots appeared indicating that he was typing.
Unknown
Meet me out front in 10 minutes.
"WHAT?! No, no, no." Lila covered her mouth.
But then she was pushing herself out of bed. Her feet got tangled in her sheets and she ended up falling to the ground. She groaned as she pushed herself up and stumbled into her closet. She sent a silent tank you to San since he had organized it for her. Rummaging around, she pulled out her favorite pair of jeans and a blouse with long sleeves that were longer in the back. She pulled her hair into a loose ponytail and ran into the bathroom to reapply some light makeup.
It took her nine minutes to get out front. She chewed on her lip as she looked up and down street, expecting some fancy car to pull up in front of her.
Instead, someone touched her shoulder. Lila jumped and made a very unattractive sound as she spun around.
Wooyoung doubled over with laughter and he started clapping is hands. "I'm s-sorry... I did... didn't mean to scare you!" He straightened out, but continued to laugh.
Lila covered her face with her hands and let out a small whine. When she peeked through her fingers, she saw that he was still standing there. He had his baggie hoodie on again with the hood pulled up to cover his face in shadows.
"Ok I just need to ask... Is this really happening right now?" Lila dropped her hands from her face.
"Why wouldn't it be?" He tilted his head in response.
"Well, because you're... you. And I'm... no one really."
"And yet we've met three times in two days." He smiled and jerked his head to the side, signaling for her to follow him.
She did without hesitation. He had her completely under his spell and it made her wonder if he even knew.
"Besides, you're not 'no one'." Wooyoung added, glancing over his shoulder. "I mean, you can put up with San's crazy ass so that has to count for something."
Lila snorted, then covered her mouth and nose, hoping he didn't hear it. When he didn't say anything, she dropped her hand and said, "I take it he didn't hold back on set?"
"Oh have I got stories for you. But that will come in time."
In time? What did he mean by that?
She sped up so they were walking next to each other.
"I was really surprised you live in this neighborhood. It's actually home to my favorite diner. I know the owner so we don't have to worry about being seen either."
Lila faltered, her fantasy cracking a little. Why was he here if he didn't want to be seen with her...?
Wooyoung seemed to sense her worry and stopped. "Oh! God, not like that. That came out wrong." He sputtered. "Let me rephrase. I'm not technically supposed to be out in public right now. My manager wants me to stay out of the public eye until after the movie has its official release across the country." He rolled his eyes then adopted a mocking tone. "'We need to make sure there is no bad press associated with this movie if you want your career to progress.'"
"Oh..." Lila said as they started walking again. "So then... Why are you..."
Wooyoung just smiled at her and sped up.
Damn him and his secrecy. Just like that, Lila was reeled back in.
