Chapter 17: Jamie

•2405 words•

We get into Lisha's car and we're off again to go to the secret party venue to meet this new detective and solve the KK crime. I can't wait, but a part of me is nervous. This was the place where my girlfriend was nearly killed, and my best friend was shot, for Christ's sake. It's a traumatic place for all of us, and I think that once we go back to New Zealand, we won't want to come back here to the UK. Ever. I don't know where my parents are now; I haven't spoken to them since I joined Crofley's. I don't think they care about me anyway, and I don't think they ever did in the first place. I wonder where my little sister Addi is too. She's 6 and I haven't seen her for a very long time. I don't exactly miss her though. Ever since she was born, she's been an idiot who strops every 10 minutes. Actually, I guess you could say that I hate her.

If my family knew where I am now, I don't know how they would feel. In the past couple of months, I've witnessed someone being shot (and performed CPR on them), got a proper girlfriend, made a best friend, flown to the other side of the world and back, lived with 4 15-year-olds, and more. I'm sort of proud of myself to be honest. We pull into the SPV (secret party venue) and we're being warmly welcomed by a detective.
"Hello," he says, "I'm detective Rufus Hinds. I'm going to show you some more evidence for the KK crime. Follow me; Lisha can come too."
He takes us to his office, Lisha following closely behind. I look to my right and I see Ashlyn tearing up and Brooke giving her a hug. She's probably stressed. After what happened last time, I'm not surprised. I'm a little stressed too- I'm just handling it well.

We all sit down and Rufus starts to say, "Right, so I'm Rufus, and I'm the deputy head detective of the UK. We've found more evidence for the KK crime." He then pulls out a piece of plastic from a drawer. It's red and translucent With it are some 3D moulds of fingerprints. He then pulls out a magnifying glass, puts his glasses on and then looks carefully over the fingerprints. "So these are moulds of some fingerprints that were found in the dungeon," he adds. Ashlyn starts to cry again; no one can mention the words 'dungeon' or 'basement' anymore. Brooke leans over to comfort her and I watch the whole time.

"If you want to look at these fingerprints," he says, passing me a little machine with about 3 buttons on with a built-in digital mini keyboard that you can actually type on. "Here, Jamie. So yeah, if you want to look at these fingerprints, maybe the 3 of you could try and figure something out. Like...whose fingerprints they are. Good luck. Now Lisha, come with me." Rufus and Lisha leave the room to go to an unknown place. I walk over to the girls and say, "Hey, come on. Let's solve this crime!" Ash takes the little machine and the fingerprint moulds off me and analyses them carefully.
"Hm, this looks interesting," She says, wiping her tears. Brooke takes it off her and stares into it deeply. She then passes it back to me, I look at it, and then Rufus Hinds walks back into the room. Rufus takes the fingerprints and the machine off me, and puts it back on his desk. I don't know where he went with Lisha, but she comes back and sits next to me. "So," Rufus says, "What did you find about the fingerprints? Anything?"
"Nah, not much," I reply.

"Right then," he says, (he has a bit of an obsession with saying 'right.') "I'll show you what to do. So here we have the suspects," He whips an iPad out from another drawer. "And if we scan the moulds through the machine and then match them up to the iPad, we can get a decent idea of who was at the SPV. That doesn't automatically tell us who the killers were though; it just tells us who could have been there. We'll study other evidence later. I'll take you to the SPV and we can look at more evidence. Sound good?"
"Uhh, sure?" Brooke replies, confused. Ash nods her head and I don't say or do anything. He leaves the room again with Lisha and the 3 of us are left to sort out these fingerprints.
"So what are we doing?" Ash asks.
"Uhh," I groan, "Let me take over." I show them what to do and like I said- take over.

We eventually figure that Harold Loffy was there and one of the fingerprint moulds match up to him. There are 12 suspects on the iPad but we aren't told how many killers there actually are. That's because no one knows, and that's why we're solving the crime. "I can't find any other fingerprints that match up," I say, after finding Loffy's fingerprints and fingerprints that belong to a guy in a green shirt with long black hair and tattoos, on the iPad. Rufus and Lisha walk back in (I have no idea where they keep going) and Rufus says, "This isn't all the evidence by the way, and Lisha and I keep going to see my new chief, the new head detective; Harold Loffiet has been sacked. There's other evidence for the KK crime in the SPV apparently so as I said, we'll check there later."
"What? Why's he been sacked?" Brooke exclaims.

"Want me to let you into a little secret," Rufus adds. We all nod. "Well, a big secret. You must promise to not tell a soul. I'm not supposed to tell anyone but I feel like I can really trust you guys and I think that it's crucial that you all know. Detective Harold Loffiet was sacked because he's going to court next week. They're going to arrest him on suspicion of murder, supposedly. You know when your little friend, what's his name, was shot, Harold made your roommate, Myliey, I think, shoot. He said that he would kill Myliey if she didn't do what he said. That's why Myliey was made to pick up the gun and shoot one of you. Harold told Myliey to aim for Brooke, but that boy saved her life-"
"Wait- so Kyron's dead?" Ash asks with a shaky voice. She starts to cry again, her legs trembling.
"Haha, no. I'll get to the murder part in a second," Rufus responds. Ash sighs and wipes her hand across her forehead as if to say, 'phew.'
"So Harold wanted Myliey to kill someone so then she would get the blame for it. Police figured that Loffiet had something to do with the shooting, when in court, he wouldn't stop looking at Myliey and mouthing things to her such as 'Well done.' and 'You could have shot them all.' Police questioned him and took him into custody. They then sent him home, took his job away from him and he's going to court next week to probably be arrested. This is because they've found evidence that he's been involved in other crimes before including: acid attacks, robberies and other murders. They've found his fingerprints at many crime scenes before other detectives had gotten to the scene, therefore they suspected him in other crimes too."

My jaw drops. I've been talking to and been working with a murderer? A criminal? Harold Loffiet set this up to kill Brooke? To kill Kyron? I can't believe this. I can't believe Myliey agreed either. I mean, she was told that she would be killed if she didn't shoot anyone. Why weren't we told about this? I have so many questions swirling around my head; they won't stop. I look at Brooke and then look at Ashlyn. Then I watch them look at each other. This is all so strange. Lisha is looking at all of us, confused, and we all look back at Lisha. We're very surprised.

"I was told by Loffy that if I were to tell anyone, I would be killed. That's why you can't tell anybody. I'm relieved that he's no longer working in the detective industry and that he's probably going to be arrested next week," Rufus adds.
"Wow," Brooke says.
"Right, that's it. You can all leave now guys. Come back tomorrow please. Meet me at the SPV. Thanks for helping with the fingerprints! We'll look into the man that Jamie found out about."
"Bye Loffy, thanks!" Brooke shouts. We leave the room and Lisha is walking in front of us. I'm directly behind Lisha and the girls are behind me. I can hear them snickering and if Kyron was here, I would be talking to him about what in the world just went on, too.

Eventually, we arrive back at our dorm. Knowing that we could be here for at least another 2 months maybe, I'm getting quite annoyed. This place is boring and I don't know if we'll even wait for Myliey to come out of her kid's prison. Hang on. If it wasn't Myliey's fault that someone got shot, and if the police arrest Loffy, surely Myliey should be freed, right? I'm not sure yet, but hopefully Myliey will be released. Damn, I feel bad for her. The poor thing has to be in prison for 2 months when it isn't even her fault!

The next day comes around and we're back off to the SPV to talk to Rufus about the KK crime. It's just 4 days now until Loffy goes to court. I really hope he gets arrested because in my opinion, he deserves it. If he was murdering people before this as well, then he definitely deserves it. I still can't believe that he did that. It goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover; the Head Detective of the UK was a serial killer, practically! We get in the car and Lisha drives us to Rufus Hinds.

We all arrive and get out of the car.
"Hello, good people!" He shouts, a grinning smile on his face. It's almost a little creepy. We all go over to shake his hand and then he walks us to his office which is just a couple of minutes walk away from the SPV.

"So, I need to tell you something else," We all sit down in his office. "We have more evidence. It's not about the KK crime but it's about Harold Loffiet. The court date has been changed to today as police and other detectives have found out that Harold has done things like this in the past. Teens who work for Crofley's have been made to shoot, stab, and even kill their teammates and suspects because of Loffiet. He told the teens that he would kill them if they didn't do what he said. This is also what he did to Myliey. Because of this, Myliey is to be freed tomorrow, and all other kids that have been affected by Loffiet's despicable behaviour, will be freed from prison also. Some teens from around 20 years ago when Crofley's first started, are still in prison because of what Loffiet made them do. We have also found more evidence about the man who Jamie was on about. He was involved in the crime, so well done Jamie for figuring that one out. Supposedly, he has a friend. There isn't a full description of him yet but we know that his friend is possibly a man in about his mid-40s and he has children. The man who Jamie found (let's call him John although we don't know his name yet) confessed to have shot people in the SPV with Loffiet. Harold Loffiet didn't make him do this but it's said that Loffiet was the main murderer in this crime. It's also said that there's evidence that women were possibly involved. Interesting. I'll see you soon then, everyone. I don't know when we'll next meet but I just wanted to tell you that information. I'll give you a call when I know if Loffiet has been arrested or not. Good day."

We leave and I'm in quite a bit of shock. A man...who I suspected...actually committed the crime! Wow. You're a good detective, you know, Jamie Corvanze. The girls are whispering again but this time they're walking in front of me. Tomorrow we see if Myliey's going to be freed. I can't believe she was in a trap with Loffy! She could have been killed, jeez!

I'm back at the dorm now, getting ready for bed. I'm brushing my teeth and I'm looking in the mirror. Woah, maybe I am actually a good detective. This crime is more-or-less solved already. We know that Loffy is the prime suspect, the man with the green shirt is involved, a father in his 40s and possibly a woman- or more than one.  Sorted. Goodnight.

I wake up and look to my right. Normally, Brooke is lay there next to me, asleep and I kiss her forehead. Then I remember that I'm in the UK and we all have our own room. It's in New Zealand where we sleep next to each other. I then roll over to my left and that's where the flat's house-phone is. It rings and I pick it up.
"Hi, this is the police department. Myliey Marie Rosettor is to be released from the Juvenile Detention centre today as it was not her fault someone was shot. She should be back to you at 10 am. Enjoy your day. Goodbye."
The call ends without me saying anything and I go to tell the girls. Yes! Now the girls and I know what happened to Myliey, Ash and Brooke shouldn't be angry at her. It was either she shot someone, or she was killed. Luckily, Kyron's okay and he's due to be released from hospital next week. Later on, we should get a phone call from Rufus telling us what's going to happen to Loffy. I can't wait. We've nearly solved the crime, Myliey's being released, and Kyron's coming out of hospital soon. Life's good.
