34 | the long night

34 | THE LONG NIGHT

The moment Reyanna heard the horn sound, her heart began to beat nervously quick. She hurried down to the entrance of the crypt, but managed to spot Jon before she was sealed down there with the others. Jon spotted her as well and hurried over to her to give her one last kiss before the battle. "Good luck." Reyanna told. At that same moment she felt Jon slide something into her hand. It was a dragon glass dagger. He nodded at her curtly, essentially telling her to defend herself if needbe.

She nodded and embraced Jon one more time. The hug was long and tight, she was almost too scared to let go. But, she knew she had to. "I love you." Reyanna told Jon, making sure that he knew.

"I love you both." Jon rubbed her belly, then nudged her toward the crypt. She spun on her heel and hurried down to the tomb and found a place to sit.

Jon took his place at the top of the wall with Sofina. "You're going to have to ride Rhaegal." Sofina spoke quietly to Jon.

"What?!" Jon whisper yelled, trying to keep his anxiety at a minimum.

Sofina turned to face him. "It's imperative you do. Or else I won't be able to call upon him to fire."

"I don't know how to ride a dragon." Jon harshly whispered back at her.

"No one does. It's in your blood, you'll be fine." Sofina slapped his back.

Jon took a deep, nervous breath. The two quickly climbed onto the dragons, waiting for their cue to take flight. They saw the ocean of white walkers take their place about a hundred yards from the calvary Jon had set up. They simply stood there until the Dothraki began charging toward them. The walkers charged full force at the Dothraki, but they were still too far for Jon and Sofina to see clearly. The only reason they knew the Dothraki were charging in was because their weapons were set ablaze. The bright fires of their weapons lit up the horizon... until they didn't anymore. All of the fiery weapons went out and the darkness shut off all of the fire, indicating that the walkers had slaughter all of the Dothraki within minutes of them charging in on them.

Sofina's breath became shaky once she witnessed such a thing. Only then had she realized how massive their army truly was. A few horses from the Dothraki managed to live and they ran back to the forefront of the rest of the standing army. Sofina began to ready herself to fly until Jon tried to stop her. "The Night King is coming!" Jon reminded her that her task with the dragons was to take out the Night King.

Sofina shook her head. "The dead are already here." She hissed at him then signaled for Drogon to take flight.

Drogon took to the sky and soared over the standing army. Sofina flew a few circles before taking any action until she saw the hundreds of thousands of walkers coming to attack the standing army. "Dracarys!" Sofina shouted and Viserion began to spit fire at the walkers below. Though Sofina tried not to get her own people, it was inevitable they were going to get a bit singed as well.

Jon followed pursuit and took Rhaegal to light up the walkers. Though Jon was struggling a bit to stay on Rhaegal, he finally managed to take full control.

Sofina and Jon then took off to go after the Night King, but then, the Night King caused a snow storm to roll in and blind them. They couldn't see anything at all through the cloudy snow. Not only did it impede on Sofina and Jon's view, it also disrupted the standing army's view of the incoming white walkers. Jon and Sofina flew blindly through the air, hoping the storm would clear up.

Down in the crypt, everything was silent. Only the soft, worried whispered of the women echoed throughout the room. Sofina was sitting next to Tyrion, silently praying to whatever gods there were to protect Jon. Suddenly, the door to the crypt opened and Sansa walked in. She sealed the door shut behind her. She came in with an emotionless face. "It's bad, isn't it?" Reyanna asked her.

Sansa blinked. Worried that she'd cause panic if she said yes. Reyanna gulped and turned to begin picking at her fingernails.

Jon and Sofina continued to fly in circles in the sky until they ended up crashing into each other. They both nearly lost balance and were almost thrown off of their dragons. They continued to fly around more and more, unaware of what was going on below them because they couldn't see, until Sofina finally spotted the Night King standing in the middle of the snow, he seemed to have abandoned his dragon to go after Bran on foot. Sofina landed hastily before her and shouted at Viserion: "Dracarys!"

Drogon blew fire at the Night King, and Sofina thought it was a victory. She waited until the fire was done being burned to see the Night King's ashes, but, instead, she saw him standing there with a mere smirk on his face. The dragon fire had done nothing to him.

Sofina gasped and hurried to fly away. From the corner of her eye she saw a resurrected Viserion blowing blue magical fire at Jon and Rhaegal. The two dragons tussled it out and scratched and ripped each other to pieces. In the midst of the fight of the dragons. She saw Jon fall from the dragon he was riding on and he fell a good fifteen feet, possibly cracking a few bones. Sofina winced at the sight and turned Drogon to go fight Viserion. She hurried over,  but Viserion got ahold of Drogon by the throat by the strength of his jaws. Sofina held as tightly as she could while watching the two dragons fly higher and higher as they fought it out.

Sofina's heart began to race the higher and higher the three dragons flew to fight. Sofina's breath hitched as she realized they were moving above the clouds. She tried to signal Drogon to fly away, but Viserion had Drogon's throat in his jaws. Viserion used his claws to scratch and mutilate Drogon's belly, then, when Drogon was finally hurt enough, let his throat go to let Drogon fall freely back down to the ground. Sofina let out an inhuman scream on the way down, then crashed onto the icy ground below. Her impact caused her immediate death. Her neck snapped and skull split in half on impact, killing her right away. Though, Drogon was weakened, he could still survive. Sofina's corpse laid tangled up like a pretzel on the ground, a large pool of blood forming around her entire body, staining her warm and expensive coats she wore to battle.

Her time had finally come to an end.

Back in the crypt, Reyanna listened closely to the ground above her. She could hear faint screams and white walker moans, but nothing too scary like utter silence. However, the quiet crypt was soon to be filled with terror the moment Reyanna spotted a decayed hand tear through one of the walls of the crypt. Dead bodies. There were dead bodies buried in the crypt. Why hadn't they thought of that before?

Everyone jumped up and scattered as that one decayed hand turned to dozens of white walkers crawling out of their tombs. Reyanna shot up and revealed her dagger. She hurried over and managed to stab one of the walkers before all of the other began to grab and slaughter other women and children. Reyanna could only do so much, she was only one person against the dozens of walkers that were appearing in the crypt. They walkers continued  to infest the crypt and Reyanna managed to killed at least ten before she decided to hide behind a statue on her own. Though she wanted to save everyone, she couldn't be the only one killing the walkers. She'd die at that rate.

Suddenly, a walker spotted her from behind and yanked her  forcefully from her hiding place. She grunted and pushed the walker off of her. The walker charged at her and she charged at him, too, effectively using her dagger to stab him in the eye before running back to hide in a new hiding spot. The hissing noises from the walkers were scaring the hell out of her, and she knew that, soon than later, they'd be haunting her in her dreams.

Once again, the dozens of walkers found Reyanna and they were ruthlessly surrounding her, ready to tear her to shreds within seconds. Reyanna readied herself to put up a fight with her one dagger, but, as soon as the walkers began to approach her, they suddenly collapsed to the ground. Someone must've killed the Night King. They were all unanimated, just like that. Finally put to rest.

Everyone came out of their hiding corners and came to peer at the now for sure dead white walkers with a somber look on their faces. Reyanna didn't care about staring at the now dead walkers, she had seen plenty of them before. She knew that it must've meant that it was safe outside now. So, she bolted outside and instantly spotted Jon in the square. He was singed from head to toe, nearly burnt to a crisp, and before him was Drogon, the now dead white walker dragon. He seemed to have been trying to make his way to the crypt but was being tagged by Drogon.

Reyanna ran over to him and crushed him in a hug. "Thank the gods." She began to cry hysterically.

"You're sister..." Jon began, still exasperated from the long battle.

Reyanna knew what he meant, that she was gone. But that was expected in battle. She knew it was a slim chance that Jon would still be alive, let alone the living win the war. She was simply glad for the few good things that came out of that battle. The Night King was finally dead, Jon was still alive and the living were finally safe.
