Real Talk Part I forget what number I'm on
Today, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage. Basically, this means that homosexual couples in every state in the United States have to offer marriage licenses to all couples, regardless of orientation. This is a good thing, the government should have NO say in denying anybody the right to a personal choice that doesn't harm anyone else.
However, the sanctity of marriage was ruined long ago. Whoever's idea it was that anyone, even straight couples, need a "Marriage Licence" to get married is ridiculous. So now we have marriage equality, in the form of governmental permission.
A more desirable outcome, then, would be to get rid of ALL marriage licenses. Why do you even need governmental permission to get married?
The answer: married couples receive tax benefits. These tax benefits are either the couples money (if they are rich and they have to pay a lot of taxes) that the state is generously returning to them (because the government stole it in the first place through taxing), or they receive MORE money than what is taken from them (if they are not as wealthy). This extra money than what they had stolen must have come from somewhere.
Basically, in the United States, married couples receive tax benefits that are paid for, by majority, Single people.
The government should not be in the business of trying to push people into a certain way of life, straight, gay, married, or single at all.
If we're going to rob one group of people (singles) to pay for the benefits for other people (married couples), then it is only right for homosexual couples to have the same right to stolen money as married straight people.
However, if marriage equality is now a thing, then shouldn't all marriage choices be treated equally? Of course. This is why the Supreme Court ruling didn't go far enough (here comes my brilliant quote): If all marriage choices are now to be treated equally, then so should the choice of those who aren't married. Thus, those who make the choice to not be married should receive the same benefits in their taxes as married couples. Now we have a contradiction in the Supreme Court's ruling. Of course, this whole problem would be solved if the government would stop pretending they are the ones who give permission to marry, for that is the decision of the individual.
End marriage licensing altogether, it's the only true equality. Love truly wins when individuals don't need permission to get married from the state.
