chapter 12 over the cliff
Your POV
*A Week Later*
The wind smacked hard against my face, tree branches scraping my arms as I ran passed. My shoulder ached, my right arm cradled in my left, handing the limp limb to my chest. I felt blood trickle down my forehead from a large gash, the wound open and throbbing. I dodged trees as I ran through the unfamiliar woods, the only sound I could hear was the erratic pounding of my heart. My lungs burned for air as I ran, soppily ramming into trees and bushes, not being fully able to keep my balance with out the help of my arms. My black dress was torn to pieces, barely even covering my body, pieces of cloth hanging on by a thread. A loud yelp left my lips as my feet slid, my body flailing forward as I tripped down a small hill.
"Shit," I muttered, gasping for the air that left my lungs with the sudden impact. My back arched in pain, as I gasped for air loudly. After a few agonizing moments, I shuffled to my feet. My eyes rolled to the back of my head for a moment, my vision fading for a few seconds. I stumbled to the side, slamming onto a tree. With my left hand, my right arm hanging uselessly by my side, I gingerly reached up to my torso, right below my breast. My head lolled back, as my fingers ran over the prodding rib bone, the bone surely broken and sticking gingerly out of the skin, although it wasn't far enough to actually break the skin. I huffed loudly, squeezing my eyes shut, huffing out a breath. With tear filled eyes, I looked around the area, not even looking around for long, before I could hear the pounding footsteps coming my way. I cursed under my breath, pushing against the tree I was leaning on. I took a few cautious steps forward, clutching my right arm to my chest. With a deep breath, I sprinted forward, dodging more trees as I went along.
After 20 minutes, I finally broke out of the tree line, and into an opening. I stopped, turning in a full circle. My breathing got heavier as I realized where I was.
"No, no no no no," I mumbled repeatedly, feeling myself begin to hyperventilate. My head whipped back to the tree line, where I heard the pounding foot steps finally stop. I backed further away from the darkness, edging closer and closer to the cliff's edge. I heard the whispers penetrate the silent air, sounding as if thousands of people were whispering at the same time. I gulped and shook my head, covering my ears with my hands, squeezing my eyes shut.
"Stop it!" I yelled, falling to my knees as the whispers became louder and louder. My hands started to shake as the whispers crept into my mind, repeating the same thing over and over again. My entire body started convulsing, quick jerks racking through my body. I felts hands on me, but no matter how much I tried to push them off, the only movements my body did was quick jerks. The string hands picked my body up, the feeling of floating seemed to overtake me. Claws dug into my sides as the person/thing carried me. The convulsions finally stopped, leaning my body weak and tired. My eyes fluttered open for a second, the colors black and red drifting through almost closed eyelids. My head rolled to the side, my eyes fluttering open again. This time I could see we were closer to the cliff's edge, and still drifting closer.
"No..." I muttered, my eyes closing once more before opening again. We were at the edge now, the moon light lit the ragged rocks at the bottom, maybe 50 feet down. I tried to open my mouth to say 'no' again, but my body was to weak to do so. My eyes fluttered close, refusing to open again. I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness, but not before I felt the hands leave my body, air rushing passed me as I fell/was thrown from the cliff. And even with the roaring wind at my ears, I could still hear one tiny voice in the back of my mind, muttering quietly.
"He comes..."
