Error

Kaoru's View

We looked at the screen, out eyes glued to what would be shown to us. This could either be a very big clue of Tomoyo's whereabouts or just some nonsense given to us by an idiot. I was really hoping it was the first one rather than my second thought. I bit my lip and inched forward towards the screen. Asuma fiddled with his fingers nervously, as we both waited patiently for something to appear on the damn screen.

'Ah, seems like I'm having some connection errors.'

I narrowed my eyes at the camera. 'Connection errors, really? Out of all times, why now?' I seethed.

"Hurry up. I don't want anything to do with your foolish games. I just want to get this over with already." I muttered out coldly.

'Ahahaha, calm yourself  or I won't even show you what I am willing to show...'

I clicked my tongue and shut my mouth. Asuma glanced over at me from the corner of his eyes and smiled sadly. "It'll be fine, Kaoru. Let's just put our faith in whoever this is for now, alright?" He said.

I sighed, "Fine."

'Oh ~ Seems like I managed to get back in. Lucky!'

Asuma sighed in relief, "That's great!" He said.

I pursed my lips together. Staring at the computer screen, I watched with narrow eyes. 'Come on already...'

'Here we go!'

The screen glowed a bright blue and continued to change every now and then.

'Enjoy the show...'

Finally, we had our first lead... We were just one step closer now. I'm coming Tomo.

***

The person on the screen walked around the room, pacing back and forth impatiently. They looked like they were ready to lash out at someone. You could see them breathe in and out heavily. I took this as my chance to examine their looks. They had white hair that was below shoulder length and super choppy. It looked like someone had grabbed a pair of scissors and cut straight through their hair. The person was also wearing a tan jumpsuit.

"If they don't come in here in two minutes or less, I'm going to go crazy." They muttered.

Biting their fingers, their head twitched to the side slightly. "Where are they..." They mumbled out.

That was when the door opened and it immediately slammed shut. The sound of the several locks placed on the door shutting once again rung through the computer's speakers.

"Hello." The voice echoed.

The person smiled.  "Hello..." They answered.

They sat down in the seat that was in the middle of the room.

'This is how it usually was. They would sit down in this very chair and listen to what the person on the intercom had to say. They were on the other side of the glass mirror, just watching them. They wanted to see what they would do, how they would react. That right there, the person you see, is a little test subject to them.'

Asuma and I cringed. Who the hell was using this poor person as a test subject? What were they using this person to test anyways?

"How are you doing today? Are you better than last time, Subject 8234?" They asked.

The one being shown nodded vigorously, "Yeah! I'm way better than last time. I can prove it!" They exclaimed.

"Then show us."

They grinned and stood up.

'As you now see, they are following orders. Last time, if I recall correctly, they lashed out and attacked one of their assistants. It didn't turn out to well for them from what I remember. I know they were ignored for the remainder of the week and it was horrible for them. They went crazy without having anyone to talk to. Having no connection with the real world was already enough, but not being able to talk to the people there seems to be even worse for them. It seems like they needed some sort of communication.'

Asuma gasped, "That's absolute torture. Who is doing this? Who are they doing this to?" He asked the voice of whomever was speaking with us through the computer.

I narrowed my eyes. "This isn't right... If you know about this, why haven't you told anyone? This is wrong." I stated.

'Well I can't exactly go out to a government official and try to put a stop to this. I technically am breaking laws by what I am doing right now. Bringing this out to anyone else would be my downfall, and I'm not going to let that happen just yet. Plus, I am not sure on who is doing this, but I do have a slight clue on who this could be.'

My eyes widened. I pushed all of what they just said aside and stuck to their last words. "You have a slight clue on who this person is? Who is it? Tell me!" I demanded.

'Relax. I said I had a slight clue. That doesn't mean I am 100% sure, you understand that, don't you?'

"Yes, yes I do. Just tell me, you idiot. Stop hiding what you now and spill it already!" I seethed out rudely.

Asuma furrowed his eyebrows together tightly. He looked at the screen and shook his head. "I don't believe this is who we are looking for, Kaoru." He said.

The voice chuckled. I rolled my eyes and scratched the nape of my neck, while leaning back in my seat. "Now why do you say that?" I asked.

Asuma frowned. "White hair and it's just below their chin? If I am recalling correctly, we are looking for someone with blonde hair that is past her shoulders, aren't I?" He responded.

"Y-Yeah, but..." I stammered.

"Kaoru, this has to be the wrong person." Asuma sighed.

"We won't know till this idiot tells us though!" I retorted.

Asuma frowned. I gulped and gazed down at the ground. I snapped at Asuma accidentally. I didn't mean to, but this is the only real clue we have about anything. I know that this was most likely not Tomoyo, but it didn't hurt to at least ask and confirm that it wasn't her. I don't want to make the mistake of leaving and finding out it was here the entire time. Tomoyo needs to be found and brought back home to my arms. I need her. I miss her.

God, the mere thought of her causes an ache in my heart. All I want is for my beloved girlfriend to come back to me, to her friends.

"Please, just let me found out if this is her, Asuma. It's the only clue we have and I don't want to lose this chance." I pleaded, desperation evident in my words and tone.

Asuma winced. "I'm sorry. Of course we can see if this is her or not. I was just blinded by the fact of how sudden this was." He apologized.

I smiled at him, "Thank you."

There was an abrupt cough, 'Are you two done with your childish arguments?'

"Yes," We both answered.

'Good. As for what I was saying before about having an idea on who this was...'

We inched closer and waited for their words.

'I believe this person being held captive is-- is--is--is'

I raised an eyebrow. Another error?

"Who?" I asked, "Who is it?"

'is--is--is--is--is--is--is--is'

My face fell. The screen went black and my computer started to make these really loud and eerie noises. I stood up and shoved the computer away. "Dammit!" Asuma slammed his fist against the wall as I shouted.

"We were so close. So...so close this time." I hissed.

I slammed my hands against the desk and shoved everything onto the floor out of rage. I screamed and punched the wall repeatedly. Blood began to seep out of my knuckles. Asuma only watched me as tears fell from his eyes. I swore and squeezed my eyes shut. Tears dripped down my face, I shook in anger.

"FUCKING HELL!"

We were so close and it's all gone. All because of some god damn connection errors. I'm so sorry, Tomoyo. I have failed you yet again.
