A View to a Kill

CHAPTER 70: A VIEW TO A KILL

The Gilbert House

Sometimes, Natalie could almost mistake her siblings for having some kind of inkling on whatever they should do to help their current situation work out. One of those times were when they told her that they wanted to create a truce between them and Kol, and that made the brunette incredibly happy. Of course, they needed to tell Kol about the truce first, but then neither Jeremy or Elena wanted to be the ones to call him, so they threw Jeremy's phone (with the original's number) at her so she could speak.

"Jeremy Gilbert. Nice to see I'm still on your speed dial, mate. Hey, you want to meet up at the batting cages in Denver?" he spoke through the phone, talking about his old fake friendship with her brother that caused them to realize he had a love of baseball bats.

"Wrong Gilbert." she retorted, smirking, even if he couldn't see her, as she leaned against the wall, her siblings still hanging out in the kitchen as she had no doubt Elena was listening in with her stupid vampire hearing.

"What a treat. Hello, darling." he greeted the correct person this time.

She smiled at him calling her that again, just like he'd done so many times. "Hi, Kol. So, how do you feel about a truce between you and my family? Elena and Jeremy came up with it but I'm all for it. And you're probably wondering why it's me that's calling you, but it's because they thought the chance of you agreeing might be bigger then."

"Maybe they're smarter than I give them credit for." he commented, sounding impressed with them actually figuring out that he had a liking to their sister, because as far as he knew, they didn't know much about the two of them, but word gets around in Mystic Falls.

"Probably not," she dismissed the idea as she scrunched up her nose with a shake of her head. "But about the truce, I hope it can happen. Mostly because they want to know more about Silas, so I can meet you anywjere you want."

"I'll tell you what. How about I come to you?" and right after he said that, the door bell rang and she saw Elena walk over to her and frown, definitely having been listening in. "If you want a truce, open up the door and invite me in."

Natalie grabbed the doorknob, and there he was, smiling at her as if this was a simple and casual encounter. She hung up as she saw him and they were actually face to face. "Wouldn't it be kinda stupid to invite you in? Seeing as you want to kill Jeremy and all."

He just shook his head as if it was an idiotic thought. "On the contrary, I can't kill your brother with my own two hands, or I'll suffer the hunter's curse and spend the next 20 years trying to off myself in gruesome ways."

"Yeah, the hunter's curse sucks." the human female muttered bitterly, but then she looked up at him again as she shook out of it.

He simply decided to continue on to throw her reasons as to why she shouldn't fear for her family's life at that exact moment. "And I've heard that vervain's back in town for everyone now, so I can't compel your sister to kill him either. So I think it's fair to say they're semi-safe, for now."

"Well, in that case, come on in." she invited him in, and she heard a door close from the kitchen and guessed that Jeremy had gotten his ass out of there, which was probably a good idea from her point of view.

He obviously heard it too. "No gold medals for bravery, I see. You know the thing I love about the modern age is... music, anytime you like," he commented, putting his earphones and phone in his pocket, where he also gave them a view of the white oak stake that he had stolen from Rebekah, Natalie didn't really pay much attention to it, but Elena did. "So... this is the part where you offer me a drink so we can have a proper chat."

Natalie rolled her eyes playfully before throwing him a sarcastic smile. "Would you like a drink, Kol?"

"Now how'd you know I wanted one?" he asked, clearly teasing her back as he stepped over the threshold and into the house.

▹▹▹

Kol had gotten his fun as he waited for his drink, desperately wanting alcohol like every other vampire ever as he played one of Matt and Jeremy's video games, knowing full well that Elena was staring him down in the kitchen.

But then Natalie came back with just what he wanted even though she knew nothing about it except that it was Elena's parents' alcohol. "Sorry, I had to dig up the old people alcohol."

Kol paused his game as he walked up to meet her in the kitchen. "Yeah, that's the problem with people today. They have no drinking imagination. Turn-of-the-century New Orleans – now, they knew how to make a drink."

"You lived in New Orleans?" Elena spoke up from her place, sitting on the counter, staring at the two.

The original nodded in answer. "We all did, till Niklaus shoved a dagger in my heart."

The doppelganger frowned, having known of Klaus' love of daggering his siblings, but he usually did that after they crossed him. "Why? What did you do?"

The brunette male vampire looked almost offended at her immediately thinking he had done something wrong. "What makes you think I did anything? Has your alliance with my brother softened you to his horrors?"

"I don't have an alliance with Klaus. We had a mutual interest in finding the cure – that's all." she informed him. "And I'm willing to give up looking for it if you promise to leave my brother alone."

Natalie noticed that there seemed to be some tension in the room as she held a bottle of alcohol she had no idea what to do with. Now, can you teach me how to make this? I'll get some ice."

Kol took the bottle out of her hands and walked over to the mixer after smiling at her, and she smiled in response.

She quickly grabbed some ice, seeing as it was simply in the kitchen and handed it to him. "Here you go."

"Would you like one?" he offered, seeing as he had quickly managed to finish the drinks, they were very simple.

"Sure. Thanks," she smiled at him as he poured the ice in the drinks. She then looked over at the game and saw his score and everything, which was pretty high in comparison to hers. "You're really good at that game. Definitely considering you've been locked up in a coffin for a hundred years."

He smirked smugly at the compliment. "I'm a quick learner. Speedy reflexes. It's not much like the real thing, though, is it? You've killed, haven't you? Or are you one of those Mary Sue hunters who doesn't kill, only hurts?"

"Of course I've killed." she simply answered, not elaborating further than that because she was afraid that it might bring back some of the after-effects of the hunter's curse that she barely felt anymore after trying to convince herself that what they said weren't true.

"So, are we going to talk about Silas, or just jibber-jabber?" Kol then asked, noticing her less than pleased expression.

Elena gestured towards the living room and Kol and Natalie both grabbed their drinks as they walked towards it. Once there, Kol plopped himself on the couch casually.

Natalie remembered Rebekah simply calling Silas a bedtime story and gathered a question pretty quickly. "Nobody else seems to think Silas exists, so why do you?"

"I used to run with some witches. Africa in the fourteenth century, Haiti in the seventeenth century, New Orleans in the nineteen hundreds. They all knew about Silas; that he needed to stay buried. I actually hold witches in high esteem." he explained, taking a sip of his drink as Natalie did the same.

Elena nodded as it did make sense. "Yeah, but why Silas? Why are you so afraid of him?"

He shrugged as if his next answer was just saying that he wanted to steal his chocolate. "They said if Silas rises, he'll unleash hell on Earth. I happen to like Earth just the way it is."

"That's pretty biblical." Elena commented.

"Well, that's the other problem with people today – they've lost faith. And in that loss, they no longer know who they should fear."

▹▹▹

Kol had quickly finished his drink and Elena offered more and asked what he wanted blah blah blah, and left the room, and Kol simply walked around, looking at some pictures without talking to Natalie, who was sitting on the couch.

Elena then walked back holding a bottle of wine for them. "So we're out of gin, but I think this is a good year."

Kol put a photograph down and turned to her with an accusing look. "What if I said I don't believe you?"

Natalie turned around and nodded. "You caught her. She honestly doesn't know a thing about wine. She's more of a beer type."

Kol ignored her because he was currently trying to interrogate Elena. "It just seems odd that you'd be so willing to give up something you want so much."

Elena knew that it was a true statement, and started panicking a little at the thought of having been caught. "I would do anything for my family. And if what you're saying about Silas is true, what does it matter what I want if it puts everyone else in danger?"

The original vampire sighed thoughfully. "Well, this has been enlightening. Thanks for the drinks. I'll take your request for a truce under advisement."

The doppelganger almost started panicking again, knowing that her job was to keep him there. "Is there any chance that you could be wrong about Silas?"

But her plan to ask more questions didn't work. "Trust me, Elena. Some things are better left buried."

▹▹▹

Not that long after, someone entered the house again and Elena seemed alert for a moment before grabbing her sister's arm so they could inspect the possible threat together.

Turned out that it was only Jeremy, but he pointed his gun at them for a moment before realizing who it actually was. Elena looked at him apologetically as if she had just pointed a gun at him. "I'm sorry. He left. I mean, I – I tried to stall as long as I could."

"Wait, what?"

Right after Natalie's moment of confusion, the doorbell rang and Elena tensed up again, but Jeremy actually thought he knew what was going on. "That's Bonnie. She was right behind me."

But they were in for a surprise when Bonnie was nowhere to be found, but someone else was. And that person looked so close to murderous. "I've considered your request for a truce. Request denied."

"Kol..." Natalie trailed off, hoping that he would change his mind, seeing as she just wanted everybody alive at the end of the day.

Of course, Elena freaked out and slammed the door in his face, neglecting the fact that he had been invited in. "I'm sorry. I've already been invited in!"

And with that, he kicked the door down, and before Natalie knew it, both her siblings had ran away and she was left alone with an angry Kol who was shouting for them. "Hide and seek? Fine by me," he then turned to Natalie with a smirk. "You're not very good at this game, are you, darling?"

▹▹▹

It didn't take long for Kol to have her not be a threat with only a couple of ropes and a counter to tie it to. She had spent minutes trying to get out of them, but then Kol came down with Jeremy.

The hunter was tied against another counter by ropes, and he was struggling too. But Kol simply seemed amused as he pulled out a meat cleaver out, and started ignoring Natalie's pleas for him to stop. "Now, like I said, I don't fancy the hunter's curse, so I'm just going to chop off your arm. But don't worry, I'll heal you right up with a bit of blood after. Sorry about the sting. Now, which arm is it? Is it left or right? I'll just chop off both to be safe."

He raised the meat cleaver and Natalie's screams became louder as tears pushed themselves into her eyes forcefully and she felt the rope digging into her wrists, and she knew that it would leave a mark.

Then suddenly Elena ran in and tried to stop Kol, even when he was much stronger than her. But she was able to do something as Jeremy's restraints were cut and he was free, which made Natalie sigh in relief that he was going to be okay.

But then the doppelganger shoved the meat cleaver into Kol's chest, and Natalie finally seemed to realize what was really going on. They had planned to kill Kol all this time. "Elena, don't! Stop! Please!"

But they didn't listen. Jeremy grabbed the hose and used the fact that the town water supply had been filled with vervain to his advantage, spraying it on Kol as his skin started sizzling and he cried out in pain as Natalie cried out for them to stop, a few tears not caring that they were to be restrained.

And as that was happening, Elena stole the white oak stake from his jacket pocket and threw it at Jeremy, and it was so close to happening. But Natalie hoped it wouldn't happen as she once again yelled out her protests. "Please don't do it, Jer! I beg you! Please!"

But he didn't listen as he flung the white oak stake into the original's chest and he didn't need vervain to feel pain anymore as his body was ingulfed in flames, burning up his body.

Natalie cried out and sobbed. He couldn't be dead, she couldn't have lost another person she cared about. No, no, no! But she did. She heard other things happening around her, Klaus yelling, Bonnie being witchy and Elena ripping off her restraints but she didn't listen. She was too focused on crying over the burnt up corpse in front of her.

Kol Mikaelson was dead.

A/N: wow I hated writing this. Not only because Kol and Katalie just died but because my computer was screwed up so I had to write this on my phone and I hate writing on my phone.
