Elementary School
The school I forgot.
The slanted roof pushes the sky into a crooked kiss
Pushing my blues to spill down one side
Down, down into my bucket list.
I check it off:
Come back to where it started.
Is anything here
Left for me to say?
I forgot this school
The teachers taught well
Though I taught myself
How to count the people
Who were worth remembering
And it's self-absorbed, but there's nothing like
A scuffed-up hopscotch where no plays
Faces whose names I haven't heard before
To tell that this place has changed.
No longer mine
I cross the bridge
In search for better things to talk about.
