Chapter 12
The darkness of the night {Drake's pov}
"You had one duty, and that was to make her understand, but now she has left!" Josiah barges in with his face purple in anger, hands fisted and screams at my face.
"It was not entirely my fault." I defend myself.
She can have her reasons, but not me?
She is extremely irritating and very overbearing. I can do what I want and it won't change just because I gained a mate. I never wanted one, and I still was accepting her, but the least she could have done was not order me around already.
"Look, Drake, I care for you. I am your guardian, but I won't handle your stupidity. Lucia is already and has been sacrificing a lot for Celine and so did I. You both need each other. At this point in life, you are the one that she needs."
I scoff at his words. If she needs anything, then it's not me and she will agree with it.
"She doesn't need me, neither do I. I have my mind in my control and so will she in time." I say casually and walk towards my desk to check the information about a nearby pack that has recently been identified.
"How can you be so careless towards your mate?!" He shouts at me. His eyebrows raised in utter disbelief.
"Josiah, can you please leave me alone and allow me to do my duty?" I ask my voice hard.
"Fine, do what your idiotic brain wants to do!" He exclaims and storms away too.
I tiredly sigh. This is mutual, not just me, and now after speaking to her, I don't want to have a second conversation with her, too.
I clear my mind and open the pack information file, but again my mind slowly slithers back to our conversation.
I have no clue why and how I am so calm seeing my mate. The memory of seeing her for the first time is still as clear as water to me. She was quite an eyeful. Her golden-brown hair was tied in a bun and few strands framed her oval-shaped face. Her chocolate brown eyes were wide in shock and horror because of what was happening in the surrounding.
I was quite joyous. I thought my past has finally faded away but then I got to know hers. I was scared for myself and a bit for her, too. The fear of experiencing the excruciating pain again sent a tiny shiver of fear down my spine. I am not ready to experience it again but still; I tried, but that woman is very annoying.
She disrespected and shouted at me in just mere thirty minutes!
How dare she?!
I mean, I am the Alpha and a warrior. She should have been nervous around me. At least the rest of the ladies react that manner, but she has a lot of courage.
And that's not even the problem. Seeing the disrespect and hatred in her eyes is what irked me to the core.
It doesn't matter who it is, but I do not allow someone to disrespect me at any point. I still think my decision regarding her pack was the right one, no matter who thinks against it. Compared to what those cruel bastards did, mine was nothing. They deserve punishment and they will get it.
I shake my head again to discharge all the thoughts regarding her and her pack and focus on my work.
I spent hours on the pack matter. For the first few hours, I spend reading about the information that our pack spy had attained. For the next few hours, I spent deciding whether they are harmful to us. Along with it, I also completed adding the requirements for this year's warrior training sessions.
Everything so far is going smoothly.
The new pack doesn't have many resources and seems to be weak with fewer members. So, I left them to themselves and place the file inside my left drawer.
I stand up and stretch myself. I tiredly stand near my window. It was already late night. I had again stayed up late.
I walk towards the open window and stare at the night sky stretched above me. The calm night breeze lightly caressing my face.
The night always had special darkness, the kind which makes you calm. It's the darkness that makes the moon glow. Its blackness gives the stars their shine. The warm blackness comforted the soul.
Suddenly I remember the one thing I have learned from my life.
Your mind could either be your best friend or your worst enemy.
