Chapter 98: Mightathlon, Conclusion
As Sehki and Cree raced past everyone, Xia, Rigal, and Calypsa were the only ones able to catch up with him, with the latter two combining their rage into fire-boosted wind pressure fists the Indus/Ursa StellArts user had to staff spin to block.
Though all of them were tired, Sehki grinded through their combined flamethrower, now a minute from victory as his head started to hurt, recalling a memory that left his head hurting as he looked back. That nod only made him hesitate.
Xia and Rigal accelerated themselves with their magic. Despite Cree's attempts to speed up by using his staff as a turbine, Rigal constructed a slip stream catching up while Xia began creating an expanding force reminiscent of a phoenix's force, causing Sehki and Cree to sweat as she caught up.
Rigal fired a lightning stream Cree's ice could barely split apart in time as Xia headbutted the rest.
"The heat from that attack," transferring that energy as blue lightning at the fingers she pointed at Sehki into a fixed point. "I can revive that pain for you to taste!"
Don't tell me, she's going to redirect the lightning?
Sehki was about to try and weave a black shield to block the high speed attack, unsure they could make it in time.
A brown staff flew in between him and Xia, taking the hit for him.
"Calypsa?"
Though neither one expected that, the long lost heir quickly recognized what was going on, making a spectral hand to grab and spin the weapon around, pulling her in and throwing her into Rigal.
He made a dark spring, bouncing off the staff at the same time Cree launched him from his feet. Rigal propelled Xia forward, leading the two dashing mere seconds from the goal.
It was neck and neck when from the monitors, it showed Calypsa pushing off Cree's wind smash, flying straight at them with her staff in tow and landed above them.
Xia smelled victory when Sehki looked at his fiery rival, seeing her former flame's shadow above her.
In the last second, he pushed his shadow on top of Xia, forming a hand, and jumping off it.
The de facto leader of the heirs couldn't feel her jaw drop as Sehki's weight pushed her down and leapt, thrusting his whole body to the goal.
"Unbelievable! The winner is....Prince Sehki!"
Sehki dropped below to the ground from where they started, picking his face up at the whole school once Calypsa and Cree crossed the finish line.
I? I did it? I won the Mightathlon? Triathlon
For what seemed like eons, Sehki wept tears of joy drowning out the noise of shock from the upset, only for Candy and Lorena to pick him up with Cree tackling them.
"We won!"
The tears in his eyes couldn't stop flowing. All he could do was take his shadow and hug them all together, sobbing in their chests.
"Thank you~so much, all three of you. I'm so sorry."
"For what?"
They checked the Coastrosity Coalition news channel, finding Professor Delta and Scaldwave at the hospital with members of the royal guard protecting the room.
Lorena blew a sigh of relief as Yessenia did, cheering with the rest of the production company, while Benjin and her employees popped off in joy.
Ainsley and Bodin were the next duo to cross, followed by Rigal and Mace, then Delphine lifting up a barely conscious Taylor.
Horrified, Xia stared at Sehki, then Calypsa.
"What happened?"
Calypsa shook her head.
"One of us miscalculated our swings," hiding her head.
Sehki heard that as she raised her head to smile at him. He had to confront her later.
For now he talked with his group before heading to the stand where the announcer asked him what he'd do.
"To speak to the Planetary Presidents. I," lowering his head, "plan on leaving again."
That caught most people off guard.
"Since I've returned, the state of this world has been, disappointingly, apathetic. A world barely united against a threat growing in number and power. I've tried my best to adjust, and I acknowledge there's more I could've done before my vigilante stint. I don't know the truth about my parents, but I won't be a part of a world that wants to save face and target their own out of jealousy. But if Terra needs my help, I'll return for those who need me," bowing.
A portal opened up behind him, sending him into a chamber each housing four pillars and giants as people. He sucked his teeth.
"Cut the silhouettes, I know you're all fae the same shape and size as the rest of us."
A person with fox stripes across his face snapped his fingers, revealing four human sized figures about a foot and half taller, re-introducing themselves to him.
"Demeter Spice."
"Dryad Cadence."
"Maximillian Bezek."
"Yun Hinata."
"I hope you're all kinder than your kids," recalling whose parents were which. "Let me make this blunt. Why were my parents really killed?"
"Your mother and father were enablers who took advantage of our kingdoms to bolster their betrayal with the Voids they holstered into their house!"
At first he hesitated. A thought crossed his mind.
"Did you have any proof they were planning an attack? How did you know they weren't researching them, trying to restrain them, or end their threat as a species?"
Silence as they all turned to each other barring Yun.
"A king and queen's actions speak for their people. If their foolish prince of a son wants to continue their despised legacy, we can reunite all three of you."
"None of you have a permanent solution to the Voids, do you?"
"That's not the po-"
"You ordered the death of my parents, your own friends, without even knowing if what they were framed for were true?"
"You have no right to talk after you humiliated our children in front of the whole world!"
"Because I care about them! They were my friends at one point too! Ainsley loves art and just wants people to appreciate who they are. Taylor wants to make the world feel safe...kinda. Rigal wants to be strong, and Xia wants to make sure her friends are safe. Did any of you realize that?!"
At that point he remembered why he was doing this all.
