Chapter 9: Strive for Learning
Her scent and aroma helped regain his sense of self, trying to stare at her face more than her suit and blouse, partially wondering what her constellation was. "How many I help you," gulping, "professor?"
Her face was now inches from his nose, hot and steamy.
"You're extremely unprepared for this school, aren't you?"
He nodded, agreed. "But I was told this was the school to help me develop my powers the most."
Professor Delta swallowed, shaking herself and regaining composure. "That's right. The other schools are mostly funded by their own kingdoms, but this one was tailor made for the heirs. Since you've been gone for so long, you're already at a disadvantage."
"That's the other thing I've been worried about. Is it possible to get a tutor for like, everything? New world syndrome is behind."
"Well I was going to be formally addressed as your advisor, but you'll have to develop these skills on your own time. I'll recommend a peer mentor based on the intellectual perception grades, but by November, I'll need to see more improvements."
"Does that include figuring out my constellation?"
"If you develop it's StellArts, we will be able to determine which constellation you belong to. But if it's still unknown, we'll take the steps to push you towards your Zodiac."
She dropped her suit, slightly lifting up her blouse to expose her well-toned, buff midriff. "Channel it. Your power."
"But it's hard to control," concerned he could hurt her.
"That's why you're in school. To learn!"
Swayed by her steadfast resolve, he practiced from Tidal's course, firing warm air onto her chest. Yet, Delta was unfazed, and the wool she summoned around half her chest showed no change at all.
"At this rate, you'll only be pushed aside by the other heirs. Humanity could not survive, so we evolved ourselves into Fae to improve. Will you?"
I'll do anything to get back to Flint. "I'll endure anything, no matter what!"
She pressed both arms against him. "Good. Don't let yourself be swayed. If you're blinded by what's in front of you, look at the darkness in your soul," teasing his chin, trailing her fingers down to his heart.
That feverish gaze left his body slightly bothered. "Either way, I have next class to prepare. If you see yourselves developing a stronger affinity for the other elements, check out the other class. For now, work on practicing your Cardinal and Mutable skills the most."
"Understood," leaving with a new found drive on his way to Physical Education when Calypsa snickered, dragging him by the air as they flew away on her flying broom. "Hey, hey hey hey!"
"Don't wanna be late, do you," she yelled while he grew split between fearing to not get smashed into a tree while maintaining his breath until they arrived at the athletic center: Malefic Marshed.
The brick-red colored atmosphere and art of warriors clashing in sports added flavor to what seemed like a normal gymnasium as the two zoomed into the room before their professor blew their whistle.
"Just in the nick of time," brushing off the sweat on her face and his. "With that waist, you should be lucky I've got a permit," briefly caressing teasing his flab. "Nice to know you're big in other areas."
And Val said I was a bad flirt. Still, smiling back, she's just as cute.
"No one's late this time," introduced Kabmen Tychonis, a blonde, unkempt haired man in blank track pants, a white tank top, and a silver t-shirt over it, while wearing gloves and dropping a bag of water bottles. "Good. This school's victories, your victories, every activity you'll make going forward will be thanks to me."
Someone's full of himself, but I need to bulk up. The obstacle course Tychonis asked them to do contained swinging pillars, rings of fire, handlebars and rope, tightrope, and shaking platforms that randomly shot pillars of fire.
"Hey, Coach, will the fire hazards be turned off if our Fixed skills aren't good?"
"Why should I? Our bodies can handle these measly flames. What school did you go to while hiding, cowardly heir?"
Riled up at snickers at his expense, Sehki swiped a water bottle from nearby his professor's belongings. "How about this? If I get through the course, anyone can choose if they want to?"
"Let him coach. He'll get roasted either way," Xia added.
"Fine."
Sehki hid all of his belongings in his bag just in case they got burned. He rushed forward, crouching as he went past the coach. Timing when the pillars would fall, he paused and continued until he got through it, relieved.
Facing the rings of fire, he almost reached for his pockets, remembering Delta's words and Tidal's teachings, channeling his inner power around his body, imagining a Cosmic Burst.
This time, he jumped, releasing it as he jumped through the ring, stunning all as he blew away the flames, falling on the path in front in need of maintaining his breath from the heat.
"That was too close," regrettably going for the handlebars and his lack of upper body strength sent him falling towards the tar pit. Grabbing a rope on some of the bars barely helped him swing to the other side, his pants riddled with the black substance.
Laughter and a few concerned faces compelled him to fight the pain in his arms. Holding onto the top while carefully walking on the tightrope, he tried shaking off the tar, until he grew face to face with the platforms, waiting for when the pillars would go.
"Hurry up already!"
"Piss off!" Okay, pillar two and five fire at the same time, then pillar one, then four and three. "Got it." As the third one went off, he jumped for the first, trying to hold balance before jumping to two. As the first went off, he jumped to four a second too late, as the flames sweared his foot as he jumped for the final one.
"Argh!" Tearing up, he grabbed his foot and shook the platform forward, jumping as it leaned a second before the pillar blasted fire. Opening a water bottle from his pocket, he threw it, spilling to block the flames while grabbing onto the ledge of the safe platform. Rolling at the exit, he tried tapping out the flames on his legs.
"Not again," reeling and hopping on one back to the class. "Go ahead," collapsing on the floor to his pain.
He woke up on what seemed like a hospital bed to a pair of legs about to stomp on him.
