Chapter 81: Flowing Feelings
"Oh no they don't," diving down as he saw Voids emerging from behind the civilians, diving down, merging his shadow with one of the guards and using the shape of the weapon to fire a wind bullet at the Voids disappeared. He jumped behind and his silhouette began eating the essence before it could fly off into the sky like before.
"I did it?"
"Hey, who told you to interfere," one of the guards asked.
"News flash, threatening people with violence is an easy way to get the creatures that feed off negative energy to sprawl," reading the signs. "You can't build them better living conditions so they don't feel some sort of way?"
"They can pull themselves up by their bootstrap."
"You work for a king who's efforts are growing up in the luckiest family alive," completely deadpan.
"Physical or verbal treason against the royal family is punishable to any crime we see fit!"
"Privilege really is blind to those who have it," about to throw down when Cree dropped down.
"Um, my friend's just being a bit facetious. Just got out of prison," pinching him, and we shouldn't feel like we have to go back, right?"
"Fine," spotting the same teens from before throughout the school. They don't have the means to afford it, so they attack it out of jealousy? This world really needs a savior.
"Yeah, they hate living here. Rills used to live here too. Heard she wanted to give back but Shugoda won't let her."
"Crap, I need to find her," checking her socials, and seeing she was looking for him. "Phew. Hey, let's go back there tomorrow, before the school opens."
Curious, Cree agreed, surprised to see Sehki lead his way back into the slums the next day before the gang was about to leave their homes.
"You all wanna fight? Bring it all, I'll take all thirteen of you on! Try and tag me even once!"
Cree did not expect for him to rush at them, using his shadow to dodge all of their magic strikes even once, taunting with quick hit and runs, and jumping away as two people chasing him crashed into one another.
"Is that all you got?" When almost all of them jumped towards him, he jumped backwards into his only shadow, flying out and narrowly dodging the fist from the last, leaving him breathless.
"Too close."
Cree jumped down. "Wait, you all, work together and corner him, strike when he jumps out!"
"Don't tell them my weakness," he screamed, being cornered as they boxed him in, forcing him to use water and fire whips to block, and earth to substitute his living aura.
Flipping in between and rolling their relentless wind strikes, what felt like a race against survival ended with both parties out of breath. He went for one last dive and rise, but the last of them, a dark skinned belle with a cute face, launched an Antila blast where he landed.
Stuck in mid air, he plunged his shadow into the ground too late as the girl launched herself to him after being boosted by the speed of two others. He flinched when she winded her fist back, but when he opened his eyes, she grabbed onto his shadow, and lightly tapped him.
"Tag."
They cheered to his chagrin. "You got lucky," being handed water while the others tripped over one another due to their fatigue. "Y'all don't seem that bad, why y'all harassing students?"
"They make fun of us cuz we're not as smart as them."
"Then get smarter: crush competition through opposition with repetition and submission of victorious collisions of arithmetics you listened to complete your mission!"
"You're a Lyra Fighter?"
"Nope, but attacking them ain't gonna help you all get smarter. We use power to protect, not to harm. You all got parents or siblings," seeing all of them raise their hands. "I lost my parents and my brother went missing," watching their shocked reaction.
"I don't know if I'll see him again, but he was around your age. I don't like to see y'all waste your lives or give those guards more reason to try and destroy your homes, got it?"
They all nodded. He changed the mood, challenging them to see if they could spell. After about an hour of that, he let them play Spiral Gears, a complete free for all, where most of them showed him jumping, uppercuts and unique techniques that pushed his air flow to its limits.
As it kept going, some formed a team with him, forcing him to use his hands to weave his wind magic creatively enough to actually knock a few out until Cree took his own Spiral Gear and ended in the game, turning into a free for all.
"Hey!"
"Sorry, this looks way too fun!"
After about some hours of fun and finding out they were cutting a school nearby, he warned them to go back and get something to eat.
"Can you come to our school and teach us?"
"I've got my own job to do. But no more of this gang stuff. I'll talk to Rigal but next time we meet, you'll be good boys and girls, right?"
"We promise."
"And hey, if things work out, form a Spiral Gear club League. Ask your teachers to start a club and maybe you all could challenge the other schools around. Sounds fair?"
They agreed, jumping back into their yard before him and Cree left. As the two went to the deli to earn more cash, the free man took a good gaze upon him.
"You really like kids, huh."
"They're part of our generation and our successors. The power to change the world to make people's lives easier."
"That sounds like someone ready to become Prince. Alright, that's enough mental prep. Tomorrow, we're sparring, a one v one for the ages!"
He gulped. "I'm going to regret and accept this," resorting to using voice memos for his journal with his drained hands.
