Chapter 31: Denied Approval
Calypsa's eyes moved to the window with intense concern while widely smiling, yet Xia was barely able to pick himself off the wall.
"What, owh, was that?! Cal, help," watching that smile drop, "me? Don't tell me-all this time, you still like," stunned as her witch attired peer swung her staff away from a growing Void right in front of them.
"What the?"
This Void was completely different than anything else, wearing regal black-purple clothing, albeit teared, and kicked Calypsa away to lift up Xia and throw her into the wall.
"I am not letting two losers beat me up tonight!" She sprung off the hallway walls, throwing rapid fire blasts in the shape of phoenix feathers after them, who quickly opened their mouths to swallow it down.
Calypsa caught the screams of several other students in House Prometheus being attacked left and row. From the other side of the hall, a Constain devoured Vital's flamethrower spell while holding back Vena's first hound construct.
"How did they get in our dorm? Sehki must've," only for her friend to swing her underneath the stronger Void's fist that slammed into the wall, stuck long enough for them to jump off the wall and drop their heels onto their head. Calypsa's head jerked at Xia's eyes, seething.
"Get him and your parents' words out of your head for once! Your people and fraters are in danger! Act like the queen you want to be!"
Xia's mouth stuttered, shaking while stepping back. "Sorry," shaking her head. They ran to help out their Inner Circle as the more powerful Void appeared.
Sehki was busy running away while people had their phones out, emotionally blinded by the thought Xia had planned for this to happen to ignore people now turning from him towards House Prometheus to notice the commotion all the way until he got home.
Overwhelmed, he woke up on Sunday, briefly checking his phone to see classmates posting pictures of himself without clothes, closing the app a second after his finger slipped up to a video showing the events of the Void attack.
Heading to Nabu for a quick breakfast, Sehki poured all the frustration he could into practice. His hands cracked as he weaved around fire and water whips of varying degree, kicking up the earth and trying to control how far he could shift it.
"All I'm missing is air and my StellArts," calming down enough to remember the burst that slammed Xia. That didn't feel like a Cosmic Burst, trying to visualize it. "Was it a force of air magic or my StellArts?"
He stared at his hands: noting he used fire on his right and water on his left. "Maybe I need to focus it on a different body part," searching at his butt. "No, that'd be for flight," releasing flatulence that made him sit on the toilet to think.
"A wind burst wouldn't make sense on the legs," trying to about the time he's seen it in fiction. "As a drill, shaping it, spinning, sonic booms, flowing through your palms. Wait Taylor drags water into the air...spin the magic energy in the air!"
He dashed back outside, channeling the magic power in his arm. At first water and fire blasted out of his hands, but as he focused on it more, he felt a spark of wind that faded.
"Dang it!" Sehki tried again, accidentally forming fire in his palms, but visualized the wind spinning around his hand and wrist.
"Okay, that's a start. When Rigal punches," pulling up and punching back, releasing a blast of air that dissipates before it could hit the tree. "Yup, got my work cut out for me."
Minutes turned to quarters of hours passed, using his rage to motivate himself. Combining lifting and striking the earth with elemental whips, shooting wind, then fire to try and increase the attack in case it worked, he almost forgot to go for lunch.
When he returned, Sehki approached the tree, trying to channel the wind magic around his fist and strike holes into the tree bark, huffing as he attempted to improve his consistency. More hours later, he headed back inside choosing to use what little physical energy to actually study and do homework.
"So attacks that affect the mind and senses are Sensor Arts. Artillery's combining it with weapons...like Madam uses. Asterism, oh combination moves. Wait, combining StellArts and Zodiac elemental, or two different people," about to mail Professor Delta.
A knock on the window shook him enough to fall off the couch, only opening the door after confirmation of Calypsa's voice.
"Hey," hopping off her broom, but without the flirtatious attitude, dropping her hat. "I," awkwardly scratching her hair, "um, good to see you with clothes on? Sorry," laughing.
He sucked his teeth. "Couldn't help yourself uh."
She slapped herself. "No, I mean, after what happened yesterday, I wanted to make it up to you," bringing him upstairs, past the crooked stairs. "Geez they haven't fixed much at all."
The bed was surprisingly well kept, which Sehki admitted he never used that much, waiting until the construction crew was completed.
"So what are you going to do?"
A light swirled around her body, changing her appearance into a light brown woman. Sehki blinked, his heart and brain try to fight what he knew.
"Val? Calypsa, how did you-Chameleon?"
"I told you I took his memories, didn't I? Granted, it looks like he just fed on her appearance to make you feel better, but," lightly flicking his body to the bed and jumping in after him. "Do whatever you want with her to me."
Sehki's eyes sank from hope into depression.
"You aren't her."
"Huh?"
"Tychonis used her to feed off me. She's not like you at all."
The face of Val dropped, confused, and hurt. "I'm just trying to cheer you up."
His arms wrapped around her, with tears rolling down his eyes.
"I know. It's just not the same," sliding his head towards her chest, reflecting on the times Val would debate on his pranking skills, "to me."
She slid her hands down his head, contemplating her choices as she received a phone call.
