Chapter 20: Void of Fear
"Oh crud," spotting several citizens having their essence being drained or taken over. "Where's the police?"
"Um, Cusp Central is a bit more independent than the others. Most of the people worked for your parents, but since they're gonna, we're kinda just a well-regulated militia...who the current rulers won't fund unless they remove all traces of Umbra Sanctuary's influence."
"Great," rolling his words at seeming a few armed civilians fighting back with gun shaped weapons firing magic blasts and spells. "Tech's more common here too?"
"And Shugoda," calling Apus and summoning a barrier of air between the fleeing innocents and fearless increasing threats. "For now," pulling out her phone. "Ainsley? Rigal? Xia? Taylor?"
Only Xia answered. "What's going on?"
"Void attack Cusp Central, can you hurry?"
"I'll drain like half my energy getting there, fine," spotting Sehki. "Don't think I'm done with you yet!"
"Um, I'm interested in women with a bit more sanity, so I'll have to reject the offer."
She raised the middle finger at him. "Where's Rigal? He should be close by!"
Calypsa sucked his teeth. "Probably on his podcast again."
Sehki took out his new phone and searched up Rigal's name on....Spewtube, really? Finding a podcast called Fly N Sky Alphas, he immediately gagged and regretted ever finding parallel universes interesting if they also had parallels to the one of the most mental inducing plagues of the world.
He clicked on the podcast, irate at it being a ongoing livestream, and typed, Heir Emergency: Void Attack Now, Cusp Central.
"Fine," putting on the training gear. "Xia, hurry please! Calypsa, call Taylor and Ainsley, I'll see what I can do!"
Ignoring her concerns, he turned a knob on the gear, finding it much heavier the more he twisted. Guessing it was a weight adjuster, he hurried to a person in the midst of having their body being sucked out by a Void. As it started forming into a Voidvark, Sehki shifted into heavier gear as he swung, smacking it off the citizen in enough impact to crack the Void's face as it fell into the wall.
"Everyone," spotting more attempts to preach the barrier, "evacuate safely, only use magic to target their limbs so they can't harm you," helping up the young man as what sounded like helicopters flew above. "Are you okay?"
"Wait, you're Prince Sehki?" He panicked and ran away to his wife, while their daughter thanked him from afar as they picked her up.
"Well one out three ain't so bad," trying to get the store owners to leave. The barrier dropped with Calypsa's arms as the last store clerk on the block stashed cash in their pockets and fled.
"Okay, bad news, Taylor's not coming."
"Let me guess, he doesn't care about the people living here and only wants to see the pretty people around?"
"Close, he doesn't care about anyone from his country."
"Wow that's a wonderful motivation for the ruler of an entire world! I'm not worried for the planet at all!"
The guards in front of them were doing their best to contain the rest, leaving them to face the remaining Voids on their own: most of them Voidvarks and a few Constrains.
He backed up beside her. "You can take them all?"
"Well I can't let anyone else bully you, other than me of course," twirling his staff around. "Think you're ready to give them a duet?"
Sehki wasn't sure, as she dived into the colorless creatures, jabbing and back stabbing some, tossing her staff which orbited around her, smacking them down. Calypsa called out Lacerta, granting her weapon a tongue to help whip others away.
However, Sehki grew anxious as a dozen slipped from the miltilia's forces, eager to hunt her down.
Wait, Voids are attracted to magic. In that case, aha! He focuses his magic power, building it up, but not releasing it. Several of the Voids stopped focusing on the citizens, slowly attracting themselves to him.
It worked, seeing them now chasing after him. Crap, it worked! "Come and get me!" He dashed into a store building completely by accident, barely lowering the magic buildup and rushing up the staircase. Spotting large bed sheets nearby, he cocked his hand in front of his mouth.
"Calypsa! Drag the mattresses outside, I have a plan!"
"Wait, urgh," seeing another Void about to eat her lose focus going after him. Meanwhile, he burned a hole through the door, unlocking it as the monsters followed him. Rushing to the windows, he conjured up his self-named Cosmic Whip, hopping away from a hungry Voidvark and smacking them into the glass.
Another grabbed Sehki from behind while charging up his magic power, pushing him and the level one Void out of the window as the others followed suit, distracting Calypsa.
He'll only have half of them to. She growled. "No choice!" She threw out her right hand as Sehki unleashed a Cosmic Burst around himself, evaporating the essence off all the Voidvarks. They reverted back to human while the mattress cushioned his fall alongside them.
"It worked!" He brushed his hair back. "You Voids are mere prey to a Demon King," trying to play off the relief.
Calypsa collapsed on her knees, gripping her chest. A Constrain approached her, reaching for the staff and opening up their mouth to devour her magic.
"No!" Sehki conjured the whip to reach for her staff, uppercutting them.
"Indus!" She bit her tongue as her staff transformed into a spear. He swung down, impaling it and giving her enough time to kick it into the Constrain.
As it screeched in pain, Sehki instinctively transferred power into his legs, forming earth from the pavement around his shoes. The two of them kicked the staff through it's body together, erasing it and separating them from their host.
"Huh, this date's going better than I thought," smiling, sweating, and summoning the staff back to her hand once he helped her up. "Not bad, Dumbki!"
His cheeks spread crimson, and neither one expected what would happen next.
