Chapter 16: Who Can You Protect?
"Flint," rushing into the schoolyard to pick him up. "What happened?"
"There was an altercation with some students. They said he hit them."
He counted the number of bandages the child needed. "And they were allowed to go this far? Where was the teacher, security? Did their parents get called?"
"The principal had a talk, but other than that!"
"You know his dad's an army vet! Come," seeing the young blond. "Hey, talk to me Flint."
The boy only latched onto his body, forcing him to pick this up.
"He barely talks to anyone, what could he have possibly said to do anything? Give a good reason why I shouldn't press charges!? How am I going to explain this to Shonda?"
"His, your mother has been going through a lot, and we were told to not call the house phone in case of emergencies. We don't want to upset Gerald."
Flint's shuddering made Shemar just leave.
"I'm not going to let this happen again," he said. Once they got home, he pulled out food for them to eat and pulled out his laptop. "Wanna watch Kamen Rider Ex-Aid?"
Flint rushed over to the kitchen, almost tripping on the broken floor tiles. "I got you," catching him in his hands. "I'll always pick you up!"
Sehki woke up, finding himself on a couch and the window covered up, knocking the hard, condensed dirt. Curious as to how he got back inside, he walked out to head to Nabu, to the site of the few people that were there early, all of whom ran away.
"Quick, before a Void arrives!"
"Where," turning around to find Principal Lumin behind him.
"Prince Sehki, can we talk?"
His anger grew not too long in the office. "What do you mean, Fly Boy broke into my house last night and attacked me," pointing to the scars on his body, and surprised to see the wounds weren't bleeding, though the slashes on his clothes were obvious.
"I'm glad you're safe, but we take the danger of the Voids very seriously."
"But I was knocked out! Someone else must've attacked them!"
"Sven James and recordings found you attacking them."
"After I passed out from his fly summons! Aren't they going to get punished," spotting it on a website from his computer.
"Quilter? Like Twitter? What, did they name that after the Table Constellation?"
"Aquila. The bird."
"Ooh," seeing posts called Spreads. Huh, kinda clever.
"They might change the name to Stars."
"Why, that's generic af!" This feels...familiar. Wait. "Can't the school take it down?"
"We can advise them to take it down, but it's already reached the news," spotted a headline.
Long Lost Heir Attacks Students+Tied to Void Appearances?
"Lumin, this doesn't add up, the only time I've been around a Void was the day I met you!"
"Just take a deep breath and go along with your day. I'm sure everything will be revealed in due time."
He sucked his teeth and stormed out of the room, seeing a creature being flown into a portal that looked dangerously close to a Void, and Professor Delta walking away as it closed.
"What the," running to turn the now empty corridor. He turned around where she was waiting.
"Yes," unnerving her with her stern intensity. "How goes your training?"
Was she the? "My fire skills are getting better but earth needs work," charging up power. "Why were you using a portal?"
"Void watch. I prefer to not use the Starlight Dragon's power often, but if the school's priorities are elsewhere, I'll have to take matters into my own hands," spotting his jittering hands. "You seem like you wanted to fight."
"You're not a Void, are you?"
Silence. Her walk released an uneasy sense of dread, and a powerful gaze that lowered to meet him, face-to-face.
"If I was, do you really think you could stand a chance to beat me? Or any Void?"
His face knew the answer as his body coated with the drive to wash off that perception.
"Push yourself to overcome those limits, or you won't be able to protect anyone, not even yourself."
His fist crumbled, swinging a whip of energy slightly wrapped in fire at her, who blocked it easily.
"I won't be around campus that often so consider your patch up a warning. Your Cardinal Arts show," walking away, "some promise at least."
He let those words haunt him as she left. Upset, he ran outside, seeing Sven's human form talking to Ainsley, who also had two other people with them.
"Did you send him after me," approaching them and grabbing Sven by the tie of his blazers, sweating green fluids from the top of the gray hair. "Why did you attack me last night," only pausing after seeing the injuries. "Why did you lie and say I summoned the Voids last night?"
"Bodin, go."
Sehki turned to Ainsley only to find a mirror copy of himself in front of him, smacking him to the floor. His duplicate walked over to the person next to the petite girl, with a dainty hat not dissimilar from Calypsa.
"Bodin Mortier, hi." He splashed paint across Sehki's legs, creating cuffs that trapped and tripped him.
"Candy, introduce yourself as well," commanding her to immediately freeze Sehki's hands to the ground.
"S-sorry. M-m-my name is Candy Uyocron."
Sehki barely bothered addressing them, trying to break free as Ainsley crouched down, sending vibrations to straddle his body in a stimulating, yet offputting fashion.
"I need my Inner Circle in top condition," channeling a miniature sandstorm from the dirt to lift him airborne. "I sent him."
"Why?!"
"You said before you didn't attack the Voids," pulling out a phone. "And yet," showing him an image of his body being held by someone else as a Void pummeled and fractured the others, "you happened to be there."
"Hold on? Who is that? Ainsley, Sven knocked me out, whoever that is clearly picked up my body and brought me back inside. I'm not even moving in the video!"
"Perhaps, yet you showed enough brutality in harming him beforehand."
"No one has permission to harass me in my own dorm! How would you like it if I sent someone to attack you?"
"It wouldn't be the first time it's happened, and you shouldn't act like you haven't."
"We were kids and I don't know the full story. Is this what this is about, some grudge and drive to make me look like a monster?"
His magic built up, releasing a force smacking down all his restraints.
"Back off, I won't let you decide my fate."
