Chapter 32: The Key

Luna awoke with her cheek pressed against the cool, leather seat of a car. There was a chorus of muddled whispers around her. A warm, callused hand massaged a tender bump on the back of her skull. She didn't know where she was or who was talking or why someone was massaging her head but as a sharp pain appeared at the base of her skull, she couldn't find the strength within herself to care. A strangled sound escaped her throat and the voices quieted. One by one whimpers escaped her lips just like water from a leaking faucet. She desperately wanted to stop the pain but when she tried to move she found her body paralyzed and locked in the fetal position.

"Luna?" She knew that voice. The voice was deep and smooth like molasses with a slight southern drawl. It was the voice of a boy- who Luna who had grown up with since she was a child.

Will.

She cried out, her mind unable to put together a sensible response. Continuing to caress the back of her head, he gently nuzzled his nose against hers and gently shushed her. He whispered promises that the pain would go away and that everything would be alright. She felt compelled to believe him because he was Will and he had always been right before. Surely enough the pain did abide and feeling slowly returned to Luna's limbs. Still, she had yet to process where she was or how she ended up with her head netted nestled on Will's lap when before she was being attacked by cult of hooded men.

"Open your eyes, honey. Everything is okay, you're safe now," Will's lips brushed against the shell of her ear.

Safe? What had happened to her? Unable to deal with her agonized questions any longer, Luna opened her eyes to find some answers. Will was  leaning over her body, his usual golden halo of curls was matted down and sopping, as if he had just taken a shower or came back from soccer practice. His amber eyes were red rimmed and bloodshot as tears raced one another to see who could reach the base of his chin faster. He looked so different from the all-American teenager Luna had fallen in love with and she couldn't help but feel guilty.

"Don't cry for me," With a shaking hand, she wiped the tears from his face. "I'm fine."

Those two words were so simple and small and yet it was such a complex and sizable lie. Luna did not feel fine. In fact, she felt as if a speeding truck had rammed into her from behind and then, as if triggered by the memory of a forgotten item, decided to turn back around smack into her once again. The pain only intensified as she sat up and met the stares of her sister and her new friend. A stark realization ran through her like a chilling splash of water. She was alive.

Alix and Twyla sat in front of her her. They were in a limo of sorts, stranded in the middle of metropolitan traffic as horns and curses sounded ablaze around them. Twyla seemed to be faring no better than Luna as she gritted her teeth, her hands fisted and crossed over her chest. There was a small crescent shaped cut above her brow, looking startlingly similar to the pendant around her neck. Alix was, of course, unscathed- her green eyes examined Luna thoroughly cut any other cuts or bruises.

"What happened?" Luna eventually asked, as a silence settled over the vehicle.

Nobody responded.

"Will?" He had his turned to the window, suddenly interested in the city's nightlife festivities. Looking back at Luna begrudgingly, he shot a scathing glare at both Alix and Twyla for not offering an answer and cleared his throat.

"We don't really know, Lu. One second we're standing guard by the limo and then next thing we know, you and your sister are appearing out of thin air, lying unconscious on the ground."

His hands began to shake as he recounted the gruesome scene. They had approached the twins who were lying in a pool of their own blood, in the middle of the Delphi mansion's driveway. He mentioned how the smell of their blood sent Xavier into a frenzy and how he murdered the poor, unsuspecting limo driver in his moment of rage. He also stated how Alix's hands began to glow as she rushed to their sides and began muttering words in a language that was foreign to his ears.

"It was awful, Lu." His breath shuddered as he looked down at his hands. They were caked in blood. "I held you in my arms and I could have sworn you were dead. What happened in there?"

"We can't remember," Twyla snapped.

"Well, something must have happened," Alix pulled out the small leather bound book with the intertwined moons on the cover. Luna's eyes lit up as she recognized it as the book of moons. "And it must have to do something with this thing."

"Give it to me," Luna reached out for the book but Alix held it above her head, safely out of the blonde's grasp.

"Not until we find out if it's going to hurt you or not. You didn't pass out for no reason Luna, your body went into shock as magic, too powerful for a mortal entered your system."

She yelped in surprise as an invisible force tugged the book out of her hand and held it out to Luna. A sudden flash of red hair could be seen as Alix spun around to face Twyla and glared at her. The steel eyed twin offered Alix a curl of lips before telling Luna to take the book. Her only excuse was, "We didn't go through all this trouble to get it only for it be taken again."

Brushing her fingers across the worn leather, Luna stifled a gasp as the withered pages once again glittered with magic. A zap, sort of like static electricity stung Luna's fingers as she toyed with the golden lock. She tried to open the book, expecting the rusty look to fall right off but it remained in place and the book remained closed. She tried again, this time with added effort but still the lock didn't budge.

"It won't open." Twyla sighed and held out her hand.

"Why don't you try the key," She took the book from Luna inspecting the little lock with care.

"There wasn't one in the display," Luna's brows furrowed as she tried to remember if there was a key but she only remembered seeing the book.

"That can't be right," Twyla slammed the back down onto the seat beside her, "I have a memory of there being a key."

A slight pinching feeling began in Luna's temples as the image of a tiny golden key flashed before her eyes. She sucked in a deep breath, her heart palpitating in her chest as she opened her eyes again. The image imprinted in her brain. "There's a key, I can see it."

"I told you so, genius," Twyla sneered, "Now where is it."

"Cemetery." Luna wished she could feel as floored as Twyla looked but really, she only felt tired. This whole thing was a mess.

"A cemetery," Twyla pinched the bridge of her nose and muttered something about psychics under her breath. Luna didn't think it was anything kind.

"I saw a golden key, it was beautiful and small. With a whimsical appeal to it. But it was clutched between two hands. Two hands that had nothing left but pearly white bones."

Slamming her fist against the black divider that separated the passengers from the driver, Alix rattled off a set of directions to Xavier. Luna had no doubt in her mind that the vampire would have been able to hear Alix just fine if she whispered the location but didn't feel entitled to tell her so. Despite being no taller than 5'2 and a little less than a hundred and fifty pounds, the young psychic was not someone to mess with when angry. Luna would rather question a raging bull, than a raging Alix.

A screech sounded, as the limo took an abrupt left, cutting off a slew of angry angry drivers. Curses, Luna had never heard before were screamed at them as they sped down the down. By some miracle, the police seemed to missing on the particular avenue they drove down or else, Xavier would have been pulled over for going nearly a hundred miles per hour on a busy road. Luna held tightly onto her seatbelt as her stomach did cartwheels.

"Where are we going?" Will asked as the tall skyscrapers and steel complexes were replaced by smaller, brick apartment buildings.

"A cemetery." Alix pursed her lips, "One that is home to many deceased witches and warlocks."

**We're going on a trip in our favorite... okay I'll just stop right there; I'm almost an adult. Thank you guys for reading this chapter- I finally wrote a chapter that is finally on time. Sorry for any mistakes, I'll will be combing back through the book when it is finished to fix those errors. I appreciate all the support, especially as the first part of the story ends. If I do continue with the Celestial Sisters story, I do not think I will put them in separate books but just add more parts within this book as the rest of their story happens within the same year. Unlike Caddie's, which took place over multiple years. Please tell me if you would be interested in a 2nd part of their story , I definitely have a good idea about what would happen if so.
XOXO,
Ro.**

(I just want to add an disclaimer that this is not the end of the Part of their story and I will be updating with the next chapter on Sunday).
