Chapter 26: You Owe Me

"Why am I the only one in a mini skirt?" Luna yanked the leather fabric down for the third time that night, as they waited in line.

After ten minutes of arguing, Alix managed to wrestle her into a midnight blue, lace corset and a mini skirt. She was having a difficulty breathing and there was a cool draft that went up her backside, causing her to wince at the intrusion. Nothing, however, was worse than the black stiletto boots that were currently cutting off all circulation in her toes. She begged and pleaded for the redhead to let her wear something simple like Will's black shirt and jeans combo but Alix refused, claiming that beauty was pain. Her whining only increased when she noticed that Alix was not forcing Xavier or Twyla to change.

"You are going to be our ticket in," Alix smacked Luna's hands away from the skirt.

"You're using me to bait the bouncer!" Luna crossed her arms over her chest but it only accentuated her cleavage even more.

"You don't have to do this Luna, she can't make you." Will glared at Alix. The change of clothing did little to make Will appear to appear like the Abercrombie and fitch models that stood in the line behind them, instead he looked more like an angsty teenager who was going through his scene faze. Alix had assured him, as they left the house, that the outfit looked much nicer on her brother.

"Actually, she does. We need to get into this club tonight- Kaitlyn Delphi is supposed to be here. She's Nicolai Delphi's granddaughter, the leader of the Delphi. She despises the group and her grandfather but she's our only ticket to the book and she's inside and we can't get to her unless we are also inside. Do you see where I'm going with this, loverboy?" Alix's lips twisted into a smile that was too sweet to be real

A few heads turned in their direction as Alix finished her little rant but she didn't seem the least bit worried about being exposed. Meeting their nosy stares, she gave the onlookers a bone chilling glare before brushing her hair off of her shoulder like it was a piece of lint. Luna watched the whole interaction with her mouth slightly ajar. She had never met anyone so young who possessed that amount of power. It wasn't even the magical power that she possessed, it was the fear factor that she seemed to hold- making everyone, even the giant vampire- Xavier- cower in her presence.

"I really don't see why you can't talk to the bouncer, Alix," Twyla picked at her nails. She stood beside Xavier, bearing an expression that only existed after doing something dreadfully boring like watching paint dry. "It's not like you haven't done this before."

Though Luna knew Twyla wasn't incapable of having emotions, she did know her sister didn't care if she were to be demeaned by her psychic best friend- the past afternoon was proof enough. Glancing at her sister, Luna noticed the man who loomed close behind, his eyes following her every move. Xavier noticed Luna's staring and met her eyes, he offered her a quick smile that was more sympathetic than kind and then looked back at Twyla. It was as if there was a gravitational pull that kept his eyes glued to her. Well- that was an interesting development, thought Luna.

A long, dramatic sigh came from Alix as she raked her fingers through her auburn locks. "That's not how things played out in my vision and I'd prefer to not anger your cousins."

"Cousins?" Luna balked, her face contorted- embling the likeliness of a cartoon character, whereas Twyla merely raised a brow. She didn't even bother to look away from her hand.

Alix spoke from the side of her mouth as she quietly explained. "The moon goddesses cousins- the fates."

The blaring base filtered out from the club, shaking even the pavement under their feet. If not for Luna's developing ability to read minds, she probably wouldn't have heard what Alix had said. Normally, it was a rather annoying curse, especially when it started to work spontaneously but Luna had the strange inkling she was going to need it tonight. The odd, mind-numbing static that usually filled her head began to clear and then, it was like a damn had been knocked down as streams of incoherent thoughts filled her head. Clenching her teeth together, she fisted her hands by her sides and tried to push the invasive thoughts out of her brain.

"It works better if you try focus solely on your own thoughts," Alix waved her hands in front of Luna's face, trying to get her attention.

"How do you know?"

"My brother, Jaxon, is a mind-reader. It was hard at first, when he was in the fifth grade he had terrible ADHD- but it wasn't really his fault, not when he literally had a million different things in his head."

Luna nodded numbly and took a step forward as the line shifted. She could now see in clear detail the flashing neons signs and the outline of a man made of pure muscle, who stood in front of a velvet rope. She swallowed the lump in her throat upon realizing that, that same man who had a permanent frown etched onto his face, was the guy she was supposed to win over with her charms.

Wonderful.

There was never a time in their encounter when Luna felt compelled to not believe Alix. After all, she was supposed to be some all-knowing psychic but surely even the all-knowing can't possibly know everything. Maybe she missed the second half of her vision where Luna tried to flirt with him and he laughed in her face. Luna wasn't an expert in flirting, the only man she had ever been with was currently standing behind her, sweating bullets about potentially getting eaten at the club. After listing all of her favorite romance movies in her head, she tried to pick out the most romantic parts and analyze what they did right. She was only halfway through her list, when suddenly they were standing in front of the large, angry bouncer. His hand was extended forward as he asked them for IDs. Nobody moved, their eyes solely trained on Luna.

A bead of sweat trailed down her back as she stared into the man's gold, cat eyes. "Um," her eyes flickered over to the name tag pinned above his heart, "Gary, come on. You're too sweet, carding us and all. But we don't really look like we're that young."

"IDs." He barked once more causing Luna to flinch.

Twyla shoved her elbow into Luna's ribs, her head was cocked to the side as if she expected Luna to do something else. Really, that was all she had planned. There was no plan B or improvisation. Squaring her shoulders, Luna feigned confidence, and looked the bouncer right in the eye.

"You do not need to see them," her voice dropped to a lower octave.

The bouncer froze, his hand fell to his side and eyes glazed over. Luna felt as if she were experiencing a horrible case of Deja Vu- the last time something like that happened, she nearly fried her principal's brain.

"Well- thank you big guy," Alix patted the bouncer on the shoulder, grabbed Luna by the wrist and ducked into the club. The others followed behind but not before shooting the unblinking man a strange look.

"What the hell was that?" Xavier yelled once they were inside.

Xavier's question was drowned out by the hypnotic, pulsing beats blaring through the speakers. The patrons of the club swung their hips and twisted their hands above their heads, as the base sent mini quakes through the floor. Luna's head was spinning, she didn't know too look first. There was a giant mass of people gyrating in front of the DJ booth, the girl's sequined dresses shimmered beneath the neon lights, the men looked like shadows, dressed all in black and clinging tightly to their preferred partner. Hanging above the crowd, there were several metal birdcages, with barely dressed women who looked to be having a grand time dancing with the bars. Luna couldn't really tell from her angle, but the women looked to have wings- much like Doreen from Flutterbees. Squinting through the fog, created by the dry ice, Luna managed to make out a vibrant, green sign that read: Open Bar.

She didn't offer the bar another thought, not until Alix had grabbed her hand once more and began to pull her through the crowd of dancers. Luna made the grave mistake of gasping in surprise, and accidentally inhaling an assortment of odors that triggered her gag reflex. She didn't have time to see if the others were following behind, not before they broke free from the crowd and stood in front the bar. There were three groups of people sitting at the bar. The first group was made up of three girls and two guys. The girls were clearly tipsy as they slurred their words and tripped over their feet- the guys, smirked at the girls' shameless flirting and sipped their drinks wordlessly. Luna couldn't help but notice how pale the two guys were, and the purplish bruises beneath their eyes. She was not at all surprised to see two pearly, white fangs protruding from their mouths as they smiled at something the girls said. Sitting beside them was a boisterous duo, the two men nearly fell of their chairs as they laughed at everything and yet nothing at the same time. One of the men reminded Luna of a lumberjack, with his plaid shirt and wiry goatee- he seemed harmless enough. His friend, on the other hand, wore a heavy leather jacket, a picture of a wolf howling at moon was engraved on the back. He might have been a werewolf. Luna thought that would explain the pink, puckered scar that ran down the side of his face.

The last group was not nearly as flashy as the first two. It was made up of a few stragglers, who had worn and withered expressions on their faces, as they stared at the drinks in front of them. Luna didn't think anyone in the group actually knew each other, they were all just there by a matter of circumstance. Alix tilted her chin and sauntered over to the bar with an amount of confidence that Luna couldn't even hope to match. She didn't know when the bubbly homecoming queen had become so insecure. Standing in the middle of a supernatural club, she felt entirely out of her element.

"Kaitlyn," Alix greeted a leggy brunette in a tight, scarlet dress.

The girl looked up from her drink, startled. Her wide eyed expression didn't defer when she realized it was Alix talking to her. "Alix? How have you been?"

The statement might have seemed completely innocent but there was a slight tremor to her voice. Alix placed a manicured hand on the bartop, blocking Kaitlyn from going anywhere. Her smirk grew to a familiar wolf-like grin. She must have learned that from Twyla, thought Luna.

"We need to talk."

The girl released a shaky laugh and grabbed her bedazzled clutch. "Actually, I need to go."

She made a move to leave but Xavier stood in front her, his hulking body blocked all available escape roots. Even in her louboutin stilettos, Kaitlyn was still dwarfed by Xavier's size. She strained her neck to glare up at whoever had dared to stop her but the glare was wiped clean from her face as he bared his fangs to her. She flipped her brunette locks over her shoulder as she looked back at Alix.

"You owe me, Kaitlyn. And unless you want everyone to know about how you procured that sparkly little pendant around your neck, you're going to finally return the favor." Kaitlyn touched the jewel, almost subconsciously as Alix threatened her.

Her eyes scanned the crowd, whether for another escape root or for onlookers, Luna couldn't tell. "Fine," she said, "What do you want?"

**I am finally feeling a little better and now I can get back to all the stuff I have to do before senior years starts. Thank you guys for all of your feedback on the sneak peak, I really appreciated it! And I hope you liked this chapter as well. I think this book might be longer than the books in the Nox Haven series, which are normally 30 chapters. I'm really trying to not rush this book. Thank you again for reading!

XOXO,
Ro.**
