Chapter 19: Meltdown

The door to Mario's flew open as Luna stormed outside, Will was hot on her heels, trying to grab hold of her flailing arms as she yelled at her sister. Twyla was standing in the parking lot, her thumbs hooked in the pockets of her jeans as she leaned against her motorbike. Xavier stood beside her, his crimson eyes flickering between the two Goodwin girls at an inhuman pace. Less than two minutes ago, all of them had been standing inside Mario's as Twyla and Luna stood face to face in an insufferable silence. Luna was too shocked at first to register what her sister had said. She didn't expect Twyla to come after her, in fact, she had been hoping Twyla would stay home and just accidentally get lost in their cellar. It would be that much easier to convince herself that she simply hallucinated the whole thing. After the initial shock wore off though, and she heard her sister's claims that Will had no place in this mess, she was furious. Who was Twyla to dictate her life? Will was the only piece of her old life that she had left, he was the one thing that reminded her what sanity was like. If he too were to disappear, there would be nothing left for her.

"You're mad," said Twyla.

"No duh! You do not get to dictate what I do," Luna tried to charge at her twin but Will held her back.

"I'm not dictating what you can or cannot do, to be completely honest I don't give a damn. But for one, I'd appreciate if you would at least tell me that you're leaving so I don't assume you were kidnapped by them. And there's no way in hell you're dragging your mortal boyfriend into this, he'll get killed!" Twyla's nostrils flared like an angry bull as her eyes narrowed into slits. Her previously silver eyes, looked even more so like diamonds with the bright neon lights of Mario's pizzeria shining in them.

"Is that really how bad this is?" Will asked, mostly to himself. His eyes lingered on Luna's face, trying to gauge her expression. Luna's face hardened into a stone mask, her lips settled into a thin line as her brows furrowed. Logically, she knew that Twyla was right and yet she continued to hold onto Will for dear life.

"If you consider murderous, kidnapping psychos with a taste for good literature bad then yes, this is very bad," said Xavier.

Will glanced over at the dark and mysterious giant who was lounging beside Twyla. There was a certain dark aura that lingered around the man, and that unnerved Will. He couldn't see much of him in the limited light of the night sky but he could see the massive outline of his body. Despite the way he spoke with an almost jovial tone, there was an underlying sinister feeling to him.

"I don't think we've met," Will held out his hand.

"No, I'm Xavier, I just got in town last night." A steady smile crawled onto Xavier's face as his large, ice cold hand swallowed Will's into a death grip.

"And how do you know Twyla, if you don't mind me asking?" Will pulled his hand away, in fear that Xavier might have broken a bone or two.

"Ugh, I so do not have the time for this. Listen Billyboy, the point is I'm gonna need you to scram, you and Luna can go back to your puppy love after this over."

"You mean if this is ever over. You don't know if we'll live. They took three experienced witches-"

Twyla interjected, "Two and a half."

"Without any problems, what's to stop them from just grabbing us out of nowhere and killing us!"

Slapping a hand over her sister's mouth, Twyla pulled Luna out of Will's grasp and glared at her. "I'm going to need you to speak quietly, or don't speak at all." Standing on the porch of Mario's a group of teenagers fell hush as they stared at the two sisters. Their interest was of course piqued after hearing the notorious Luna Goodwin yelling about murder. It was news that would surely take less than an hour to spread around town. Glancing around, Luna noticed all of those who were paying attention to what she was saying. Her heart stuttered in her chest, knowing full well how crazy she sounded and how easily that could ruin her.

"I'm going to puke." Twyla ripped her hand off Luna mouth and quickly pushed her back in Will's waiting arms.

A second later, Luna was hunched over, spewing chunks of pizza onto the asphalt. Will hovered over her, holding her hair and rubbing her back as her stomach continued to twist and turn. The entire ordeal made Luna physically sick, she couldn't stand not being able to control anything and her body felt like it was rebelling against her mind. Her mind seemed to be able to catch up to speed, as a part of her seemed familiar with all of this information, but the rest of her was in complete shock. Where was the pause button when she desperately needed it? In the minds of each and every person standing around her, she could hear what they were thinking. Most of the onlookers were two seconds away from pulling out their phones and snapping a quick picture whereas the others were just disgusted. Xavier was riddled with guilt as he fought the urge to ask if she were okay. This is a giant mess, thought Xavier but he wasn't referring to the puke. A glimmer of protectiveness shined in his emotional radar as he stared at Luna, it was in that moment he made the decision to protect the girls from whatever was to come. Luna would have been grateful if not for Twyla's thoughts which only made her feel worse. The longer she pukes, the less time we have alive.

"Are you done?" Twyla asked as Luna collapsed onto her knees.

"You're a bitch," Luna grumbled.

"Yes, well, moving on," Twyla turned to Will who in return was already glaring at her, "Believe it or not Billyboy, I don't hate you nor do I wish to break up whatever this thing is between you and my sister, but there is a law in my kind that is taken very seriously. Mortals can not know about the supernatural, let alone go on little adventures with them."

"I didn't peg you to be the kind of girl who follows rules."

"Well- there's a good chance I'm going to die, if there's anyway I can get on the good list now, I'm going to try."

Inhaling deeply, Will shook his head and chanced a look at Luna. She was a mess with her golden hair sticking up in different directions, pizza grease stains on her shirt, and mascara running down her cheeks- and yet, she was still so beautiful. Her sapphire blue eyes sparkled like two gems, they were cold and detached but so familiar. Will knew the second he stared into her eyes, he was lost, there was no possible way he could leave her. Will didn't know anything about the supernatural world or their laws,
but he knew he belonged wherever Luna was. Witch or not, he would stand by her side.

Reaching down to grab Luna's hand, Will threaded his fingers through hers and pulled her onto her feet. With a quick peck on her forehead, he turned back to look at Twyla and Xavier. The two hadn't moved an inch, they simply observed the interaction, void of any emotion. "I'm not leaving Luna's side. If you have to take her somewhere, then you're going to have to bring me along."

Twyla rolled her eyes. "How valiant of you." She glanced behind him and addressed her sister. "Only you would pick the last boy on earth with white knight syndrome to be your boyfriend."

"Fine!" Twyla snapped a second after neither Will or Luna budged. Pointing a long, bony finger at Will, she said, "Come along, play the hero, it's ultimately your funeral."

Kicking up the stand of her bike, Twyla jumped on the leather seat and revved the engine. Without waiting to be asked, Xavier made himself comfortable on the back and with little to no hesitance he wound his arms around Twyla's waist. The action, and the significance of it, did not go unnoticed by Twyla. But surprisingly, she didn't flinch or resist his touch. Quite the opposite actually, as she found herself leaning into his embrace and taking comfort in it. That was something that she hadn't done since her father's death, six years ago.

"So, that's it? We're just going to go home and do nothing?" Luna asked, her voice hoarse from the recent activity.

"Of course not- I didn't come here for no reason. We're going to meet with our dear, old Uncle Leo."

"Uncle Leo?" Luna crossed her arms over her chest, "The same Uncle, who abandoned our family and refuses to talk to us."

"That would be the one. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and we're just about as desperate as a drug addict with only five dollars left in cash."

Luna stepped away from Twyla's motorcycle, her head was still spinning from her upset stomach, but there was one thought in particular that rang as clear as day. It was a brief snippet of a memory from her current life; She was six years old and playing with her barbies at the feet of her father's office chair. Her mother was temporarily inhabiting as she addressed a man, in his mid- to late thirties. She called him, Leo, followed by my darling brother, but her tone lacked all the warmth one would expect when addressing a family member. Luna didn't remember much about what the two discussed, her only memory was of Uncle Leo's coal black eyes as they stared at her with a burning fury.

"When will the Goodwin family secrets end- You have an Uncle?" Will jumped into the passenger side of her Aston Martin.

"Distant. Very distant." Said Luna as she pulled out of Mario's lot, following her sister out of New Brooks bounds. It would be a long drive Richmond.

**I am so sorry for the delay! Last week I was at numerous college tours and I wasn't able to focus on my writing. This week I will also be gone and busy since I am going on a trip to Paris, I am so sorry. Nonetheless I hope you guys still liked the update even though it short. The Goodwin girls still have a lot to work on but at least they both have some support on the sides. Uncle Leo, however, might not be as supportive. What do you guys think will happen at this impromptu family reunion and do you think the girls are responsible for Leo shunning his family? Thank you again for reading!
XOXO,
Ro.**
