Chapter 8: Summer swimming
The bell rang and I began to leave school.
"Zander! Wait!"
I turned around to see a girl with brown hair waving at me.
Mai...
'What does she want?' I asked myself.
I waited for her to catch up to me.
"What is it?" I asked.
"My cousin is moving into town today, but I can't show her around. Could you please show her around town for me? I can show her around school on Monday, it's just that I'm busy all weekend." Mai asked.
"Sure, I don't mind. Where does she live? I can pick her up tomorrow morning if you want?" I questioned.
"She lives on Maiden Lane, number 6." She replied.
"Sure. Tell her I'll be there by 2pm tomorrow!" I accepted.
"Why so late in the day?" Mai asked, pushing her amber hair behind her ear.
"Simple really. I like sleep. I have to get going now. Bye!" I waved at her as I hurried out of school.
I got on my bike and rode strait to the swimming baths near my house.
I got changed at walked to the poolside.
I loved coming here after school. It was always empty, especially on Friday's; which happened to be today.
I may like spending time with people, but I needed my alone time.
And this was it.
I jumped into the pool and started swimming peacefully on my back.
As my eyes started to close I heard a voice echo through the room.
"Hello."
*********Vira's POV*********
"Hello." I greeted the lone boy in the swimming pool.
I just moved here today and as soon as i'd finished unpacking my bags I ran to the closest place I could to use up some energy.
The swimming pool just happened to be that place.
The boy looked just like water itself, with blue hair, and as I swam up to him I could see that his eyes were different shades of blue.
"Just like water..." I awed.
"Um... hi." He replied awkwardly.
"I'm Vira. It's nice to meet you." I held out my hand for him to shake.
"Hi Vira. I'm Zander." He replied.
We seemed to swim around aimlessly for a while before Zander spoke up.
"Can I ask you something..." He began.
"Of course you can." I replied, looking in his direction as we both stopped swimming.
"What did you mean earlier when you said 'Just like water'?" He asked.
"Oh. I was refering to your looks. Your hair is blue, as water is usually depicted to be. Along with your eyes that are different shades of blue, just like the ocean. And your skin is clear as if it could be transparent like water... but it is not." I replied honestly.
"Oh." His hands fidgeted under the water.
"It is fine. You are very handsome. And also a good swimmer. You should not be ashamed of that." I smiled.
His cheeks went a deep red. Almost the same colour as my hair.
"You... you look like..." He studied my face deeply, causing my cheeks to hear up under his intense stare.
"You do not need to figure out what I look like. It is fine."
"I will one day though." He replied.
"I will be waiting for that day." I replied.
I looked outside the window and started to see the sky darkening.
"I have to go now. It was nice to meet you Zander. I hope to see you here again." I smiled and went home.
********Zander's POV*******
I rolled over in my bed, my eyes opening, but beginning to sting; showing I didn't get enough sleep.
'I wonder what time it is.' I thought to myself.
If only I was 10 years old... my parents would have let me have a phone and I wouldn't have to get out of my bed to check the time...
I still had two years left untill then...
I rolled out of bed and walked downstairs.
"I see you have finally awoken!" My mom called out to me, chuckling.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"11:46" she replied.
"What?! That's way too early. It's still morning!" I complained.
"Well I guess you should get ready anyways. I'm sure youre supposed to be showing somebody around today." She reminded me.
'Oh yeah...'
I dragged my feet back up the stairs, had a shower, got dressed and then went back down the stairs for breakfast.
"Bye mom!" I called as I finished my breakfast and made my way out of the door.
Because I was supposed to meet Mai's cousin in 5 minutes I decided to grab my bike and rode it Maiden Lane.
I left my bike by the gate and walked up to the house.
It stood alone, with red bricks and a giant front lawn.
I walked up to the brown door and knocked.
And to my surprise it was Vira who opened the door.
"Are you following me?" She chuckled.
"Um. No. I don't think so. Are you Mai's cousin?" I asked.
"Yes. That is me." She replied.
"She asked me to show you around town... She said that she's busy this weekend so she couldn't do it herself. I'm her classmate." I informed her.
"Oh. Mai couldn't make it. Alright then. Mother, Father! Goodbye!" She called into her house before shutting the top and following me.
She looked at my bike, and then back at me.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think about what we would use for transport when I got here... I just thought abot getting here in time." I replied.
"That is fine." She replied, going into a shed on her lawn.
Did I mention how big the lawn was... because it's HUGE.
She came back out with a purple bike.
"I call it the fair maiden. I wanted a dog for my birthday, but my parents got me this bike instead..." She told me.
Then the tour began.
'This is going to be a fun weekend.'
