~•~Back in Westeros~•~
Sansa stood with her training sword at her side with her eyes closed as three guards circle around her. She was in the middle of the training yard as Eragon and Arya as well as Jon, Robb and Then and finally Ser Rodrik watched as she trained with the guards. One of the guards decide it was time to strike and lunged forward, aiming for a diagonal slashed.
In the blink of an eye, the guard was knocked down and his training sword on the other side of the training yard. Sansa didn't even move an inch the whole time. She motion for the other guards to come forward.
Taking her invitation, the two remaining guards jump forward, one aiming for a horizontal slash to her front, while the other did a upward vertical slash. She surprised them when she jumped up and did a backflip over the guard behind her, causing the guard not only disarm the guard in front of her, but sent the guard flying. She then landed behind the guard and did a diagonal slash to the guard's back, sending him to the ground.
"This is slightly easier than I expected. She said as she swiped her blade before holding it to her side." Robb scoffed as Jon let out a chuckle. "That's to be expected when you're far stronger than these guards. Especially given your...unique capabilities."
Eragon stepped forward and helped the guards to their feet. "Don't let yourselves be discouraged. You just began your training as guards. It's best to let yourselves be beaten now so you can learn from your defeats. You never known when the experience you learn will save your lives one day." Arya nodded as she placed her hand on Sansa.
"That may be true Eragon, but you're forgetting one thing." She looked at the others. "Anything can happen. You never know when you'll meet your end. Always expect the the unexpected. It only needs to happen once for it to end it all. Never forget that."
Eragon nodded as he looked at the others. "You are indeed correct Arya. Now, let's have Sansa square off against Robb, Jon and Theon. You two as well, Ser Rodrik and Ser Jory." Sets Rodrik and Jory nodded, taking out their training swords as Jon, Robb and Theon took theirs out as well and began circling Sansa. She actually got into a fighting stance.
Everyone in Winterfell knows that Eragon is betrothed to Lady Sansa is like another son to Lord Stark. Everyone of the Starks as the populace of Winterfell trust the man as he helped everyone with whatever is needed to be done. This, he earned the respect of even the trusted guards and the other Stark soldiers, who are like true northerners: tough and sturdy.
Eragon watched alongside Arya as Sansa kept her eyes on her opponents, unaware that her spar as attracted the attention of a crowd of people.
Theon, the arrogant one as always, struck first. He launched forward, slashing downwards as Robb and Jory followed suit, both doing an opposite horizontal slash. They hoped to strike both her sides while using Theon as a distraction. A distraction fell short as she expected it.
She blocked his strike and then grabbed as she fell backwards, causing him to fall with her, putting him in the path of both horizontal strike. He let out a loud yelp as both of Jory's and Robb's strikes connected with his sides. She then kicked him back and bringing her sword up and did a upward horizontal slash.
Doing so, she effectively sent Theon on his back as well as not only disarming Jory and Robb, but also sending them as will falling to the ground. Eragon clapped his hands. "Very good Sansa." She beamed at his praise, but didn't let it show as she faced off against her two remaining opponents. Ser Rodrik let out a sigh. "I figure that move was going to fail, but not like that. She has come far in her training." Jon nodded as he got into his stance. "As expected of the student of the Shadeslayers." He finished, earning a nod from the older man.
They knew of the stories of how Eragon and Arya their titles of Shadeslayers as they told everyone several stories of what they went through and where they are from. One of those stories was of when Eragon took on the shade known as Durza, earning the title of Shadeslayer during the battle of Farthen Dur . Arya earned hers when she defeated the newly created shade by the name of Varaug during the Siege of Feinster. Ever since hearing the story, some of the guards took it upon themselves to call them Shadeslayer, as a sign of respect.
Sansa knew that the two remaining opponents will be more challenging. Of her five opponents, she knew that Jon and Ser Rodrik will be more difficult. Ser Rodrik had more experience with his age as Jon was more calm and calculated them the others. Of all her opponent, Jon was the one she knew was going be more challenging.
She decided to not allow them to strategize and decide to strike first, going towards Ser Rodrik. She knew that it was best to take.him out first since he had the experience. Ser Rodrik expected this and swung his sword to block hers, but she only smirked.
Ser Rodrik realized only too late that it was a trap. She pulled her sword back and threw it to her other hand and did a twist while doing a overhead vertical slash. The slash connected to the back of his head and sent him crushingly into the ground. She then continued through the motion and decided to do a cartwheel which sent her flying up and did a flipping slash towards Jon.
He was stunned with her movement and barely was able to block her blow. "That was impressive Sansa. Not only did you take out Ser Rodrik, but you his him as a springboard and almost caught me off guard." She smiled as they both crossed blades. "Thanks, it was a move I was working on for a while now. Also, if I wasn't holding back, I would've broken the training swords." He nodded as they tried overpower the other. "I know, I felt the blade be dented from the strike." She then smirked. "You may have blocked the strike, but you still lost." He was confused. "What do you me-" he was cut off as she let go of the sword with one hand still on the sword. She balled up her fist and did an uppercut to his jaw, sending him falling backwards. "Didn't you hear them. Expected the unexpected."
Jon sat up and quickly tried to get his bearing. Before he realized it, Sansa was pointing the tip of her training sword at his throat. He chuckled as he spoke. "You got me again Sansa."
She smiled as she helped him up. "Hey, there was a point in time where I was the one on the ground and you were the one with the sword in hand." He smiled as he grabbed his sword. "Well, your circumstances are different. I have my limits, but yours seem to be disappearing every day."
Before she could respond, Eragon spoke. "Don't sell yourself short Jon. Her circumstances may be different, you could still get a lot stronger than you are now. Remember, you're still young. You lack experience. Give it time and you could give everyone here a run for their money."
Before Jon could retort, Robb, joined them then spoke. "He's right Jon. Compared to everyone here, besides Sansa and Eragon as well as Lady Arya, you are the most well skilled with a sword that isn't already a knight. Someday, you could surpass father." Jon sighed, knowing that they won't stop, so he relented. "We'll see."
They were stopped from what they were talking about when they heard loud clapping. They turned attention to the source of the clapping and were met with an annoying sight. Standing several feet away, with his guard dog Sandor Clegane, Joffrey Baratheon was clapping with an amusing smirk on his face.
"Is this the best the House of Stark has to offer? For the House heir and soldier as well as a well trained bastard to be bested by a girl. How amusing a sight it is." Robb glared at the Prince as several Stark soldiers and guards let out sound light rage at the words of the arrogant boy.
Before Robb could counter his word, Arya decided to speak. "Anyone can be good if they have the determination to train and get better. Even girls and women can get stronger. Unlike some boys who seemed to been given everything and hasn't earned a thing in his life." Joffrey snarled at Arya, outraged that someone dared to argue with him.
"No one asked you peasant. Besides, on the battlefield or in a training guard, these aren't the places for girls or women. Their places is either in the kitchen or warming the bed for their husbands."
This angered a lot of the northmen as well caused a serious frown to appear on Arya's face. Eragon saw the look on Sansa's face. She was not happy. In fact, she was furious, given the fact that she inadvertently gripped the hilt of the training sword so hard that it cracked the wood. So she wouldn't cause a scene by attacking the prince, he intervened.
"You know nothing of the world, princeling." He took the cracked training sword out of Sansa's hand, who let out a blush as she realized what she did. He went and got her another training sword. "Anyone can be a warrior if they have the strive and will to become one. Especially women. The women of Bear Island are prime examples. The House of Mormont consist mainly of warriors that are women. Another example is the people of Dorne. Women there train just as hard as the men and are even more deadlier, cause no one would suspect them. Prime example is the sand vipers of Dorne."
He stopped as he faced the prince. "Any one can be warriors. Even you." He stopped as he heard snickers from everyone around him as they just realized that he belittle the prince without him knowing. He then had an idea. Not only to embarrass the prince, but to prove his point about women. He also thought because the prince unknowingly belittled his betrothed.
"How about a spar young prince? You and Sansa should spar." The arrogant prince then spoke with a smug expression. "And why should I fight a girl? She should be inside learning to be a lady."
Eragon motioned for Sansa to walk forward. "You said it yourself. That women shouldn't be allowed to fight. Well, why not prove your word by sparring with a girl?" Eragon held a smirk beneath his expression as he watched the prince arrogantly walked over the training sword and picked one up. "Fine. Need to put a wench in her place anyways."
He walked toward Sansa, who was practicing by herself by swinging sword. He looked at her slim figure and couldn't help but let out a smirk. "It's a shame you're betrothed, but that be gone soon anyways, sooner or later, you will be mine."
Sansa ignored him as she got into a slight stance. Letting out a slightly loud warcry that sounded like a mewling cat, he rushed impatiently towards and did a sloppy diagonal slash towards her side. She simply backed up and feint to the right and swung her sword down, striking his sword. The blow knocked the sword out of his hand. Before he could did anything, Sansa lift her leg up and knocked his feet from under him, causing to flip over onto his face. As he fell he let out a girlish scream. As he got up, he saw a lot of the guard chuckling or flat out laughing at how easily he was done in by the second oldest of the Stark children.
Sandor Clegane helped the prince up as Lady Arya shook her head, walking up to Sansa. "As I said, a woman could easily do what a man can do. Let this fight teach you a lesson. Instead of being given something, do it yourself and earn it."
He let out a loud screech as he looked at Arya, beyond furious. "How dare you speak to me like that. Dog, bring me her head." Before Sandor Clegane could do or say anything, a loud voice spoke up. "Enough of this!" They look back and saw that it was the King.
The King watched the whole bout and was disgusted with what he heard from his arrogant son. "Sandor Clegane, ignore my son's order." He turned toward his son. As for you, losing to a girl is bad enough. You also had the gall to not only shame me but to insult the eldest of the Stark children as well as the Stark House with your words. I will discipline you later."
He then turned to Sansa and Eragon. "Lady Sansa and Lady Arya. I do humbly apologize for my son's words. Let the words of a weakling not bother you."
Lady Arya slightly bowed to him as did Sansa. "It is nothing, my Lord. We only wished to help the prince. It's his fault he didn't listen." Robert Baratheon nodded as he turned toward Eragon. "As for you Ser Eragon, I also apologize for my son's words about your betrothed."
Eragon stopped before he continue with whatever he was about say. "It's fine my Lord. As you can see, my betrothed can defend herself." King Baratheon barked out a laugh as Lord Stark joined them. "She for surly can. She truly is a she wolf.
Lord Stark was watching the whole thing and to say the least, he was not happy. He was slightly angry that the young prince had openly insulted his House as well as say harsh things about his daughter and Lady Arya. However, he was happy that Sansa whooped the arrogant prince's behind.
He was pulled out of his thought as he watch Ser Jaime Lannister walked on the field. He spoke with an arrogant tone that befitted the smug look on his face. "Lady Sansa surely knows how to fight." He knelt and smirked at the girl.
"I give the girl credit where credit is due. To defeat 5 well trained men is no easy feat. I commend you." Sansa nodded at him. "Thank you Ser Jaime. I still have a lot to learn. Still," she looked at Eragon and Arya. "I do have great teachers."
Her eyes widen as she thought of something could benefit everyone as provide entertainment for the King. She turned and bowed to King Robert. "Your Grace, I have an idea. You may be interested in it, if I may be so bold."
King Robert Baratheon just let out a loud bark of a laugh as he patted Lord Stark's back roughly. "She sure is your daughter. What is your request, my lady?"
"A House-Guest Tourney." Everyone looked on as the King looked on with interest. "And pray tell what it is." She smiled as she looked at Eragon before speaking.
"It's an idea that I have been thinking about for a while now. If done right, it could ease the tension between the Host House and house's guest. In time, hopefully it ease the tension between other houses on a grander scale. Allow me to explain."
She then clapped her hands." The hosting house will choose a representative as will the guest house in an Archery Bout as well a representative for the Jousting Bout. Also, the Host House will decide on a special bout that will be unique for their house as well the location of their House. Finishing it up, Each house will pick three representatives to fight each other in single combat, the best of two matches will decide the victory of the tourney."
Lord Stark was stunned at his eldest Daughter's idea. Honestly, he thought it was genius. It would make a statement that going in, it will ease whatever tension between houses there is as well provide a healthy competition that if done wisely, could render whatever aggression the other house has for the other slightly appeased.
The King thought about it and after a few minutes, let out a loud hearty laugh. "It's a shame you aren't to be betrothed to my son. You have the mind of a genius, young one." She smiled at the praise.
The King then turned his facial expression to a serious one. "Very well. As the young Lady Stark suggested, so mote it be." He held out his hand in a wide arch.
"Let the House-Guest Tourney begin."
And that's it. I'm so sorry it took me so long to post a chapter. I will try my best to continue with posting more chapters. Until next time my friends. :)-weeksjmj
