Chapter 11
Hey everyone. It's me again. I know it's been awhile, but I'm still writing. It's a shame that no one tried my little game in the previous chapter, but that's alright. Anyways, onto the story we go!!!😄
When Saphira is talking in thought: 'eragon'
When they are talking in thought: ' '
When Braydën is talking in thought: 'eragon'
It took them a couple of days, but eventually, they made it back to Winterfell. As they reentered the ancestral home of the Starks, everyone dispersed. Eragon was about to head to the training area with Arya and Sansa, he noticed that Lord Stark was heading to the Godswood. He then realized that he was going to speak to Lord Stark about what he saw. He turned back and looked at the female Rider and She-Elf.
"You guys go on ahead. I must speak with Lord Stark about what we saw." Arya nodded as she looks to Sansa who nodded towards her. "Not without us, you aren't."
He sighed as he turned around, admitting defeat without thinking about arguing. He knew it would be quite futile to argue. Especially these too. He, without saying a word, began walking towards the Godswood. As he got there, he noticed that Lord Stark was cleaning his valyrian steel blade Ice. Lord Stark looked up and nodded before returning to cleaning the blade.
"I take it that you three saw something, while looking into his mind, haven't you?" Eragon nodded as he went to touch the weirwood tree. "We have. And what we saw was indeed troubling."
Arya decided to step in, placing her hand under her chin. "It seems that the deserter was telling the truth. Well, half truth." Lord Stark raised an eyebrow at her words. "Explain." Before she could, Eragon spoke instead. "It wasn't the white walkers themselves that he saw." He the looked down at the ground. "It was the wights he saw. The rotting dead men walking is what he saw. The White Walkers foot soldiers. This much more grave, Lord Stark. You know what this means."
He nodded, but before he could reply, Sansa beat him to it. "The White Walkers are awakening. Its only a matter of time when the Long Night returns. Winter truly is coming." He nodded. "Indeed it is. Let's hope that we will be ready for it." Everyone nodded as they stayed there in silence for a few more minutes.
A silence that was broken a moment later, as Lady Catelyn made her appearance. Eragon looked to her and nodded her head. "Lady Catelyn." She nodded her head in return, looking at the group. "Eragon." She then looked at Lord Stark, then the Weirwood tree. "I always feel like stranger when I come here."
Lord Stark looked at her and smiled. "You been here for so long and even had northern children. You're as much a northern as any other." He then looked at her face and saw that she had a frown on it. He then noticed that she had a scroll in her hand. He immediately knew that something wrong had happened. "What is it?"
She looked at the scroll that's in her hand. "News from King's Landing. Jon Arryn is dead. I'm so sorry Ned." He looked down with sad eyes. Jon Arryn was like another father for him. He looked at her. "What about your sister Lysa, his wife? And her son?" She shook her head. "They're both fine, Gods be good."
He nodded as he placed his sword to the side as Eragon grabbed his chin and looked her, taking in the information he just heard. He also knew, that by the look on her face, she had more to saw. "There's more, isn't it." She nodded. "Also, King Robert is heading North towards to Winterfell."
Eragon raised an eyebrow. He heard of King Robert. How he became the King of the Seven Kingdoms. He also knew that one time or another that he was or may still be Lord Stark friend. "Why would the King be coming here Lord Stark?"
Ned stood and grabbed his sword and sheathed it. "There's only one reason he's coming here." Lady Catelyn urged him with her next words. "You can always refuse him." Eragon immediately caught on. "He'll want to make you the Hand of the King, doesn't he?" Lord Stark nods. "He indeed does."
They were interrupted by Arya, who made a startling realization for everyone. "This will be a very big problem." Lord Stark looked at her with a stern look on his face. "Why would it be a problem?" She looked at Sansa and then Eragon, who immediately realized what she was thinking and cursed.
"I'll give you two very big reasons why it's a problem." She held up two fingers as Eragon held up his hand that had the Gedwëy Ignasia. "Braydën and Saphira." Lord Stark eyes widen when he realized what is they were talking about.
Lord Stark then bowed his head. "The dragons. Yes, this will be a problem. Robert's hatred towards anything dragon related is well known. If he finds out that there are dragons up here or that there are people connected to dragons here, he will either try to kill them or start a war." Lady Catelyn's eyes widen in horror as she figured out what he was talking about. "Sansa and Eragon will be in danger. They're both Dragon Riders."
Lord Stark then looked Sansa. "It'll be even more dangerous for Sansa. Robert has a son who he'll probably want to make a betrothal for her. If he finds out that she is a dragon rider, he'll force her to make a decision. To either die or marry Joffrey."
At that moment, they heard a loud roar. A second later Braydën landed near the Weirwood Tree, followed by Saphira. They both look unhappy. 'Nothing will happen to her. Whatever her decision will be her own. No King will force her to make a decision. Not while I'm here.' Saphira nodded her head as she looked at Lord Stark. 'That two legs thinks he will be threatening our riders. He will know exactly what the wrath of a dragon will be like.' Eragon petted her head as he looked at her. 'Don't worry Saphira. He won't threaten us.' He then looked at Lord Stark.
"When he arrives, Saphira and Braydën will go north and stay hidden while the king is here. As for Sansa and myself, we will use the gloves to cover our hands." Lord Stark nodded as he looked at Sansa. "As for the betrothal," he stopped himself as he looked at Eragon and then at Sansa. "That decision will be mine to make, not Roberts." He then stepped towards Eragon. "Eragon. Please follow me to my office. There is something I need to discuss with you."
He nodded as Eragon followed Lord Stark out of the Godswood. Arya then looked at Sansa. "Come Sansa. Let's go train for a little bit." Sansa nodded as she went with Arya towards the training ground, leaving Lady Catelyn with the dragons.
Lady Catelyn couldn't help but smile. "I see. That's your idea Ned. I approve." She then left the Godswood as Braydën and Saphira left the Godswood, preparing to go for a hunt.
And this chapter is finally done. And again I'm very sorry for the delay. I will be posting more chapters now that I know where I'm going with this. I hoped you guys had liked this. Until next time. :)-Weeksjmj
