Chapter 10
Hey everyone. It's me again. I know it's been a while. I try to post chapters as soon as I possibly can. Well let's get on with the show. Also, I'm going to do a little game in this chapter. I have a secret hidden somewhere in this chapter. If anyone can spot it and tell me first, they can create a character that I will introduce in upcoming chapters. Now, onto the show.
When Saphira is talking in thought: 'eragon'
When they are talking in thought: ' '
When Braydën is talking in thought: 'eragon'
Eragon stood next to Arya and Sansa as Robb and Jon stood with Bran as Stark soldiers bring the deserter of the Night Watch, a boy named Will, towards the chopping block. As the boy made his way towards the block, Eragon could hear the boy saying over and over again one word.
White Walkers.
Throughout his time in Winterfell, Eragon and Arya spent a decent amount of time at their library, studying everything they could about the world they came into. From the Houses of Westeros, to the Reign and Fall of the Targeryens. From whatever they could find, they studied it. Even the long lost history of the White Walkers and the Long Night. They were told that the Night King and the White Walkers were legends, stories to scare the kids.
However, Eragon and Arya knew better than to write the White Walkers off. They knew to take things serious rather than to write it off as heresay. From what they have experienced, from Ra'zac to King Galbatorix, they learned long ago to take everything as though it was real.
He shook his head, ridding himself of his thought as the soldier led the boy to his execution. As the boy approached the block, the soldier got him on his knees as Lord Stark approached him, his Valaryian Steel blade Ice unsheathed by his side.
"Deserter of the Night Watch, if there is anything you wish to say before I carry out the sentence, speak your words or forever hold your peace."
Will looked down first before looking at Lord Stark with petrified eyes looking back. "I know I broken my oath, and that I am a deserter. I should have went back to the Night Watch and warned them. But I know what I saw. I saw the White Walkers. People need to know. And please, tell my family that I'm not a coward. Tell them I'm sorry."
Lord Stark nodded as he place his sword point down with both hands on the pommel. He was getting ready to say the words that were needed to be said before the execution would be carried out, when he was interrupted by Eragon.
"Wait." He looked up and saw Eragon take a step forward. Theon was about intervene when Lord Stark waved him off, allowing Eragon to come forward. "What is it Eragon? You know that it's not allowed for an execution to be halted when it has started."
Eragon nodded as he stepped in front of Will. "I know Lord Stark, but I would like to make sure of the validity of his accusations. Which is why, with your permission, I would like to use THAT." Lord Stark's eyes widen as he realized why Eragon wanted to do. 'He wants to enter his mind and look at what he saw.'
Lord Stark nodded. "Go ahead Eragon." Eragon nodded as he took a knee in front of Eragon. "Try to calm your nerves Will." He then closed his eyes. Sansa looked on as she realized that Eragon was reading the deserter's mind. She looked at Arya and realized that she was doing the same. On instinct, she looked around and looked at the guards who were watching, some with looks of confusion while others had looks of understanding, edged on their faces. She knew that most of the guards and soldiers knew the truth about her and Eragon as well as Arya, and as loyal as ever to Lord Stark, never said a word about it. She sighed as she decided to use what she learned and open her mind to entered the scared man.
Eragon after a few seconds had finally got inside of the man's mind. He looked for recent memories. He felt a presence behind him and figured out that Arya and Sansa had joined him. They appeared in a forest where snow laid heavily on the ground, even clinging to the trees like lovers. They see Will and two other Night Watchmen at a campsite when they were alerted by movement in the trees. Eragon and others watched as Will and the others went to investigate and came across a horrible sight. A body of a dead girl impaled into a tree and at her feet, in a spiral circle, amassed a large amount of body parts. Will stepped away as the two went around the site. Will followed some track which lead no where. He was about to turn back when he heard a scream.
He took off towards the way they came and saw the long haired night watchmen following suit. They meet at a clearing and looked around. Will and Night Watchmen looked around as the man barked at him. "Where are they?" Before Will could reply, his eyes widen in horror as he sees a hand grab the Night Watchmen's hair. Eragon and the others watched as a blade appeared and sever the man's head from his body, causing both to fall. They then get a good look at the murderer.
It was a man, pale as snow and skin looked as though it was beginning to decay. He was surrounded by several men would looked just as similar. But the similar aspect of the man that was with the others were they eyes. The pupils were a solid sapphire blue. Eragon recognize the similarities very quickly as did the others.
'White Walkers. Will's telling the truth. I'll need to speak to Lord Stark as soon as possible.' Eragon thought as he looked at Arya and Sansa, who he realized had came to the same conclusion. He saw the fear in Sansa's eyes as he looked back at Will, who took off, ending the memory.
Eragon opened his eyes as did Arya and Sansa,Lord Stark watching as Eragon looked towards him. "Lord Stark, we must speak as soon as possible." Lord Stark nodded heavily, knowing that Eragon must've saw something very grave enough to warrant a meeting. Eragon look at Will and nodded.
"Be at peace, Will of Night Watch." Eragon silently cast a numbing spell on Will, so he wouldn't feel pain. He stepped back and looked at Lord Stark, nodding his head before rejoining Arya. Lord Stark returned his nod before bowing his head, both hands still on the pommel of his sword. He spoke in a low voice, but loud enough for those to hear.
As he did so, Jon Snow looked down at little Bran. "Don't look away. Father will know." Bran nods as Lord Stark finish words. He looked at Sansa, who was firmly watching, though he could see the apprehensiveness in her eyes about what is about to happen.
Lord Stark sees a small smile come upon the face of Will as relief flooded the man. Lord Stark knew that Will had accepted his face. He lift his blade and with a swift blow, his blade struck the neck of the boy, firmly severing his head from his body. A few minutes had passed when he gave his sword back to Theon as everyone proceeded to get on their horses. Lord Stark approached Bran as he was about to mount his horse.
"You understand why had done it, correct?" Little Bran nodded. "It was your duty as Warden of the North." Lord Stark nodded, impressed with his answer. "You're correct. The Wall is in the North, and as such, falls under my jurisdiction." Bran nodded. "Do you think he was right father? About seeing the White Walkers?" Lord Stark looked at Eragon, who was watching the two as they spoke, a firm and knowing look on his face. Lord Stark looked back at him. "He may be right? Or it could be the ramblings of a scared man. We won't know for sure." Lord Stark then turned and went to his horse and mounted the beast. Then he and the rest headed back towards Winterfell.
Sometime later, as Eragon and the others were heading back to Winterfell, they came across a disturbing sight. On the ground, covered in blood, was the large body of a male Stag with it's throat ripped out. Lord Stark looked as Robb knelt against the dead beast. "What could've caused this? A mountain lion?"
Lord Stark shook his head. "There are no mountain lions in these woods." He looked around and noticed that there was bloody trail leading away from the stag. Eragon and the others spotted as well and followed the trail. At the end of trail was a sight they never expected.
A corpse of a large wolf. One that Lord Stark recognized immediately as did the others. Robb knelt against the beast as Lord Stark did as well. "A monstrous beast my Lord." See Rodrik said as he sat from his horse. Lord Stark nodded as he saw the source of the wolf's demise. Buried in it's neck was a broken piece of the stag's horn.
"It's a direwolf." He said as he pulled out the horn. "Tough old beast." Ser Rodrik then spoke. "Direwolves never been this far south." Robb then spotted something moving. As he saw what it was, he smiled. "And now there are five more." Lord Stark looked towards where Robb was looking and spotted five direwolf pups moving about around the corpse of their dead mother. He watched as Robb picked up a pup and gave it to Bran. He also heard his daughter Sansa let out a coo as she picked up a female direwolf and held it to her chest. His attention went back went back to Bran, who spoke.
"Where will they go father?" He didn't say anything as Ser Rodrik spoke. "They shouldn't be this far South. They wouldn't survive on their own." Lord Stark stepped away and returned to his horse as he spoke. "Better a swift death for mercy." At his words, Theon unsheathed his sword and held out his hand to Bran. "Alright, give it here Bran."
"No!" Bran shouted as he held the wolf closer to himself as Robb stood up with his hand on his pommel. "Put away your sword Theon." Theon then barked at Robb. "I take my orders from your father not you." Bran then looked at his father. "Father!"
Before Lord Stark could say anything, Jon spoke. "Lord Stark. There are five direwolf pups. One for each of your children. The direwolf is the sigil of your house. It's as if they were meant to have them." Lord Stark looked at the pleading eyes of Bran. He then looked at Sansa, who already was falling in love with the direwolf pup in her arms. He sighed as he looked back at Bran and the others.
"You will take care of them yourselves. You will feed them yourselves and when they die, you will bury them yourselves." He then motioned his horse forward as Theon sheathed his sword and proceed to pick up a pup as did Ser Jory. Bran looked at Jon. "You don't have one for yourself?" Jon interjected briefly. "I'm a bastard. I'm only half Stark."
Before he walked away with the others, he spotted movement away from the corpse. He reached down and as he did, he picked up a solid white direwolf pup with red eyes. He noticed that it was smaller than the others. Theon then smirked as he let out a ride comment. "A runt of the litter. That one's yours, Snow.
Sansa walked up to Eragon with the pup in her arms. "It seems this one is already attached to you Sansa. What will you name it Sansa?" She looked down as she thought of what she would have named it. Several months ago, she would've named it Lady to represent her standing as a lady, but now, she didn't know. She then saw the wolf get out of her hands and started sniffing a bunch of winter flowers and she smiled as she picked up the wolf.
As she did, Jon stepped forward with his wolf as did Bran and Robb with theirs. Robb then looked at his wolf. "I think I will name it Greywind, because of its fur." Bran then immediately shouted his pup's name. "Summer." Jon then looked at his wolf and immediately thought of a perfect name. "Ghost."
Sansa then looked at wolf and saw that it was looking at her. The flowers that she saw the wolf smelling gave her a name she thought was perfect. "I think I will name you Daisy." At that, the wolf licked her nose, causing her to let out a giggle. Eragon smiled at the sight and blushed slightly at Sansa, but hid it well. Arya stepped forward. "Alright everyone. Let's go back home." With a nod, everyone proceeded to mount their horses and continued on their way back to Winterfell.
And that's that. Can anyone figure out what the surprise is? Anyways, sorry it took me so long. I hope you liked it. The next chapter will be up as soon as possible. Until next time.:)-weeksjmj
