Stacy Hinojosa- Molly (c)
You had been walking through the park, heading home from work as you did every day. Your head phones were on listening to showtunes as you headed home. It was a normal day, tired and ready to get changed after a long day at work. As you walked you realised there was something not right. You were used to seeing dogs in the park however you never saw them without an owner.
A dog was running through the grass in front of you but no one else was in the park. You waited a moment to see if anyone appeared as the owner of the dog, but that didn't happen. Slowly approaching the dog, you didn't want to startle it, or hurt yourself or the animal.
"Hey sweetie," you smiled softly gesturing a hand out to the dog.
It was a relatively small dog, cute and kind of fluffy. You weren't sure on the bread possibly a spaniel or a beagle but nevertheless it was adorable.
The dog turned its attention to you, coming to sniff your hand.
"Where's your owner?" You asked it, knowing you weren't going to get an answer.
It wore a collar, but you weren't going to be able to read the tag here without it running away. You slowly took off your scarf, using one hand to stroke the dogs head, which they found pleasant. Once the scarf was off, you tied the end to the collar, to make a makeshift lead so that you could get the dog to your home around the corner to work out a plan from there.
The dog was reluctant to follow you, but after a gentle tug of the scarf, it followed you home. Once you entered your apartment, you took off the scarf, kneeling down to the dog so that you could read the collar.
At the top of the tag it said Molly, a phone number underneath, with an address engraved on the back.
"Let's get you back to your owner Molly," you smiled.
The dog perked up at her name.
You tried to phone the number on her collar, but no one responded. Instead you typed in the address into the map app on your phone to see where Molly lived. It wasn't too far, but without a lead, you weren't going to get her to the owner's house by walking, so you were going to have to drive.
Using your scarf again, you put the lead back on, leading her out to your car. She wasn't happy to get into the car, but didn't fight you lifting her up and putting her in. You set up your sat nav to tell you where to go and begun on your way. Molly whined in the back of your car, but there wasn't anything you could do to help her, not until you got to her home.
It didn't take too long to get there, so you lead her up to the door. Before you could knock on the door, it was swung open.
A woman stood there, with a pile of paper in her arms.
"I'm sorry, I don't have time," she stated, not looking up from the paper. "I need to put these flyers up."
"Have you lost your dog?" You questioned.
"Yes..." she paused, looking down and seeing Molly by your side.
She dropped all of the paper, dropping down onto her knees to hug the dog, who seemed terribly happy to see her owner.
"Thank you so much," she smiled uncontrollably. "Thank you for finding her. Where was she?"
"In the park a few blocks from here. I tried phoning, but you didn't answer, so I thought I'd bring her by."
She stood up, giving you one of the most genuine smiles you'd ever seen.
"I need to pay you for your help. I don't know what I'd have done if I lost her."
"Nonsense. Just a good deed," you smiled.
"Please, I need to show you my thanks somehow. If you don't want money, I could buy you a coffee or something," she offered.
You couldn't help but smile at her. "A coffee sounds great. I'm Y/N."
"Stacy," she smiled holding her hand out for you to shake. "If you could give me your number we could figure something out?"
"Of course."
