"Hi there," A friendly face greeted Jennifer.

"Hi," She responded.

"I'm Y/n, I don't think we've met." The landlord extended his free hand.

"I'm Jennifer." Jennifer shook his hand with hers. "You're... the landlord?" The older woman seemed surprised, clearly by the young look of Y/n. The boy sensed this and flashed a smile. He'd been used to that response. "You look... young."

"I get that a lot," he admitted. "I had some money given to me after I lost my cousin. I decided to invest it. Hence, how I'm the landlord of your house."

"Oh," Jennifer said. "Sounds smart."

"I also own the bar down on the corner here," Y/n gestured an elbow in the direction of his other investment. "So uh," He cleared his throat. "You called the real estate about a broken light?"

"Right," Jennifer had almost forgotten. "Come on in."

Jennifer led the man to where the problem was. In the hallway, the ceiling had wires hanging from where the light was supposed to be.

"Oh wow, how did this happen?" Y/n couldn't help but laugh.

"I have no idea." Jennifer said. "I was about to start cooking and turned the light on, then it... well... did that." She gestured to the hanging light.

"It looks like an easy fix," Y/n nodded. "I could bore you with the specifics but I'll just tell you that I should have this up and running in a few minutes."

"Great!" Jennifer said. "I don't like the dark."

The two shared a friendly laugh.

Two weeks later, Jennifer had another problem to call in. This time, it was the kitchen sink. She was rinsing out a glass when water started leaking from the cabinet below. Her first instinct was to call Y/n, but she didn't have his number. Instead she called the real estate again.

Moments later, the doorbell rang. Jennifer practically raced to the door.

"Hey again!" Y/n greeted with a smile as Jennifer opened the door.

"Thank god!" Jennifer gasped, hand over her heart. "There's water everywhere! I don't know what happened, I was just using the sink and then the pipe burst!" She threw her hands in the air dramatically.

Y/n chuckled, "Seems like I'm your go-to fixer-upper now."

Jennifer blushed, "Seems so."

Y/n quickly assessed the situation in the kitchen. Water was pooling around the cabinet and had started to seep into the floor. "Let's shut off the main valve first, so we don't have any more flooding," he advised.

Jennifer nodded, following him to where the valve was located. As Y/n bent down to turn it off, Jennifer took a moment to admire the way his hair fell over his forehead, and the focus in his eyes.

Once the water was off, Y/n got to work, tools in hand. Jennifer, not wanting to hover, decided to make them both a coffee. "Do you want a cup?" she offered.

"That'd be great," he replied, glancing up with a grin.

As they worked and talked, the two found more common ground. Y/n shared stories from his college days and how he came to own the property, while Jennifer spoke about her career and the interesting people she'd met.

By the time Y/n had fixed the sink, the kitchen was filled with the pleasant aroma of freshly brewed coffee and shared laughter.

"You should probably save my number," Y/n suggested, handing her a card with his contact details, "in case of any more... emergencies."

Jennifer smiled, mischief in her eyes. "I have a feeling I'll be needing your assistance quite often."

Y/n laughed, "I'd be more than happy to help, anytime."

As weeks turned into months, Jennifer found more and more reasons to call Y/n over, even if it was just to change a lightbulb. Their bond grew stronger, and it wasn't just about house repairs anymore. They'd spend hours chatting, sometimes watching movies, and occasionally grabbing a drink at his bar.

One evening, as they sat on Jennifer's patio, Y/n took a deep breath, "Jennifer, these past months have been amazing. I've come to really cherish our time together. I'd like for us to perhaps... explore this... connection we have further."

Jennifer looked into his eyes, her heart fluttering. The intensity in his gaze was undeniable. Without a word, Y/n slowly leaned in, his eyes flicking to her lips. Jennifer's breath caught, her eyes fluttering closed. Their lips met in a soft, gentle kiss, lingering and filled with the promise of a deeper connection.

When they pulled apart, Y/n whispered, "I've been wanting to do that for a long time."

Jennifer smiled, her cheeks warm, "I'm glad you did. I feel the same way."

Underneath the canopy of stars, two hearts became intertwined, signaling the beginning of a beautiful journey.
