3rd POV 

"November Echo, do you copy?"

All of the teenagers groaned. It was the eleventh time she asked. Y/n had counted them, mostly in an attempt to get her mind off the rest of the campers. Looking through the window, she could tell they were almost on the other side of the island by now. She grew more anxious the farther away they got. They had to go back, they had seen the T-Rex just before they flew away, it had eaten someone. Darius, Brooklynn, and Yaz had more experience with her than that guy, but that didn't assure him they were safe. They couldn't leave them behind.

Her friends seemed to agree with her, since Kenji, exasperated, began shouting at the pilot.

"Lady, no one is copying! Just turn around and get our friends!"

Sammy started to insist that they go back for the other campers when in Y/n's prereferral vision she noticed something fly by. She saw Ben lean towards the window, trying to see through the heavy rain. He placed a hand on the cold glass, and out of nowhere...

A  creature, with a long, pointed beak, lanky wings, and feet with claws the size of his hand, flew close to the window, followed by a screech we all knew too well.

A pteranodon.

Soon he saw that it wasn't just one, no. Around 5 or 10 pteranodons were beginning to surround the helicopter, preparing to attack.

No.

Not again.

"You may not wanna look out the window!" he warned the others, at the same time more pteranodons joined the pack around them. Lightning struck a nearby tree, and the dinosaurs screeched as they flew closer.

Kenji and Sammy turned to look out the left window, just as lightning struck again, and Ben got to see that there were way more on the other side, counting up around 15, maybe 20. Both of them leaned back, and the pilot grasped the controls firmly, trying to keep the helicopter as steady as possible; however, they were still approaching. The pilot swerved the vehicle, accelerating. Although they could no longer see the dinosaurs through the windows, they could still hear their screeching, too close for anyone's liking.

One latched onto the landing skid, releasing such an impact that the entire helicopter shook. The pilot kept trying to hold it steady, but as more pteranodons joined in it became more and more challenging. Ben was being shaken back and forth in his seat, almost slamming his head with the glass. 

A pair of wings struck the glass next to Sammy, which began to crack. The pteranodons were starting to damage the propellers and motor, if they didn't do something fast they would crash.

"Turn the lights off!" Y/n yelled at the pilot, staring at the blinkers illuminating the jungle below and around them.

"Are you crazy?!" she replied, without even turning to look at him.

"Pteranodons are attracted to the light!" Kenji blurted, side-eyeing her. Y/n nodded at him before more pteranodons slammed the sides, their snarls filling the air again.

The pilot kept trying to drive them off, but with all the movement they were putting themselves in even more danger. Soon the pteranodons would be able to break the windows and snatch them all away.

"Trust me. I've got up-close experience with this sort of thing," Ben spoke up between the noise "Real up-close."

Ben glared at the pilot, who looked at him for an eternal second, before finally switching the lights off, plunging them into complete darkness. Ben had his heart on his throat while he waited for them to leave, still surrounded by their screeches and shrieks.

Suddenly Y/n felt something grab her hand, and was about to pull it away when he turned to look, and thanks to the scarce light the storm provided, he noticed it was Kenji's hand.

Y/n drew her gaze at him; he was shaking from head to toes, Sammy curled to his side. His lip trembled in fear with his eyes fixed on the front window, and the moment he turned to look at it a pteranodon swept right in front of them, startling them both. The grip on Y/n's hand tightened immediately, and he left out a shaky breath as the rest of the pack came flying after it. Y/n gripped Kenji's hand back. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to drown the noise, replacing it with the feeling of Kenji's hand on her's.

After a moment she found there were no more screeches to drown, just the wind being pushed by the helicopter, and the rain pouring outside. She opened one eye and peeked at the drop-stained window.

They were gone.

Multiple sighs of relief came out, and the pilot panted before turning to look at them.

"It worked! How long have you kids been out here?"

Ben turned away, trying to do the math, then glanced at the others, looking just as unsure as him.

"Um, well," Sammy started. "When did they evacuate Jurassic World?"

"Uh, I guess about six months ago," the pilot mentioned, and the campers took in a breath.

Six months since they were left behind. Six months all of their lives were turned upside down. Y/n never cared to think of how long they were all there, but now...six months was the only thing she could think of.

"Wow," Y/n mumbled, and Sammy turned to look at Y/n and Kenji.

"That long?"

"Huh, check us out!" Kenji chuckled a bit and turned to look at her. Y/n felt the corners of her lips tug; as striking as the news was, his laugh was infectious, and she found herself smiling back. Kenji looked down at their still intertwined hands, before smiling sheepishly and taking his hand away. He simply took his own with his other hand, still beaming.

Y/n looked out the window; the rain was beginning to ease, and there was no more pteranodons insight. They were going to be fine, after all.

"Hey, sorry I doubted you-" the pilot started, but Sammy shouted, pointing at a Brachiosaurus stretching up in the middle of their path. She tried to avoid it, but by doing so she veered the helicopter too much, and it began to tilt out of control. The air was flooded with screams again, and Y/n held onto Kenji as the vehicle swayed under their feet, before crashing into a treetop and knocking everyone out.

a/n: sorry to leave y'all on kinda a bad ending, I couldn't think of how to finish this without it getting super long and still following the timeline :p
