Chapter 24 - You are my girlfriend.

Blaire's POV

Sitting beside Chris now felt different, after what had happened last night. It's like something's changed.

"What are you thinking about sunshine?"

"Nothing,"

"Yeah nothing," he grasped my hand firmly, "trust me, Blaire, nothing has changed. We'll always be friends first and then anything else."

I smiled at him.

Oh! come on, he's not that bad. I like him, I like this devil.

"So girlfriend, what you wanna eat for lunch today?" he asked as we were walking towards our room.

"Anything will do, boyfriend," I laughed at my own reply.

It was like all smiles and ample of happy moments, like living a Disney life. Always a happy ending, but it was a happy beginning there. He entered the room, locked the door and muttered,

"Now I got ya--" a short pause, "all by myself,"

"What?" I asked.

He didn't even give me time to respond as he lifted me up, swirled and rotated around the room like a top, "You, " he replied at the top of his lungs.

"Woah! Christian! Chris put me down, right now," I said, my head literally spinning from the effect.

He placed me down on the bed, smiling like an idiot. I have never seen Christian so happy before. He kneeled down on the floor before me and grabbed my hands from my lap.

"I regret this..." he said smiling.

"I regret waiting for these three months," he breathed out, a smile never leaving his lips.

"Stupid," I commented and we both broke out in peals of laughter.

This really felt so perfect but what I'm afraid of is life isn't a fairytale. No one knows what's going to happen on the very next moment, and no one can guarantee a happy ending. It's not like those Walt Disney pictures whose endings we already know from before. Life is like a novel which can take turns at any moment and no one ever knows what those turns are gonna bring it on the very next chapters.

◾◾◾

It's Wednesday and we were back to school. We stepped out of the car and walked towards the entrance while he laced his fingers with mine.

"Christian, what are you doing?" I muttered under my breath.

"What?"

"You are my girlfriend and we are official. Let people know," he came up with his theory.

"Okay, so the bad boy got himself a girlfriend," I teased.

"uh-huh...the bad boy met his destined girlfriend," he winked.

I rolled my eyes at his correction while heading towards our class. During the whole period, he kept throwing tiny paper balls, with a note in each one of them. One of them read, "October is unexpectedly becoming too hot to handle."

I smiled at it, he never failed to keep his cockiness away.

We walked through the basement when I suddenly asked him, "Christian, do you trust me?"

"More than myself," he answered without any second delay.

He pulled me towards himself and pinned me to the wall. Even before I could speak out, he stole a quick peck on my lips. There was always this spark of fire and passion.

Gal, you need to be fast in your reflexes.

"I know you do too," he murmured.

We finally made it to the field when Thomas said, "We are going to play - dodgeball, warm-ups first. One round around the field," he blew his whistle.

I started jogging slowly, picking up my pace, noticing all the red and yellow chairs of the football and soccer stadium far away. It was empty. I still couldn't imagine how big the campus was. Obviously, it would be so but I would love to enjoy watching soccer here. We were ahead of everyone else. I remembered those days, being a kid when I jogged and ran with my father every morning. Christian was obviously by my side, matching steps and pace when I thought it would be best if I opened up my suspicions to him.

"Chris,"

"Hmm," he hummed.

"There's something on my mind," I hesitated.

"Oh! Come on cupcake, spill it out."

"Hah! Cupcake? Really? Doesn't really suit me."

"Whatever, I was saying that," I continued.

"Ummm..,"

"Umm?" he arched an eyebrow towards me.

"Something's up with James. Isn't it?" I finally let it go.

I looked at him and he was looking towards the ground, his eyes chasing his shadow. He was serious and stern. We were more than halfway towards the end by then.

"I am sorry, I know he's your best friend, bro-buddy and all and I just came recently to --,"

"Blaire, you don't need to be sorry..."

"...not your fault, you're just a keen observer nothing else,"

We jogged the rest of the distance in utter and strange silence but still a comfortable one. On reaching early, we sat down on the ground. My fingers were busy playing with the grass neatly trimmed. Maybe telling this was a bad idea. Suddenly, his hands reached over and lay over mine.

"I know Blaire, something's up with James," he bit her lip, "I think he's messing up but --"

"Okay, so Christian and Kane are captains of two teams, get up and make your teams," Thomas cut him and declared this.

I could see Grace training the other half of the students with P.T. Exercises on the other side of the field. We all stood up in a straight line, while Christian and Kane stood a metre away face to face. Kane took the first name and it was me.

"Blaire," he pointed at me, his lips curling up into a playful smirk.

I nodded and was going to walk off in Kane's direction while Chris came and stood beside me. Gracefully, he put an arm around my waist and, "Mine," he declared clear and loud.

His eyes glared at Kane's. Both of them stood still, glaring at each other, engaged in a serious eye battle. Not even Thomas spoke up.

"Fine, Emily then," Kane finally surrendered.

Both of them went on calling names they want and finally, I said,

"Chris, I suck at --"

"Don't worry, you won't," his voice held the confidence.

"I'm right here, protecting you, always at your service," he winked and I chuckled.

So yeah, I was still alive after the match. During the first half, Chris didn't even let the ball get to me, but I gained a bit of confidence to dodge two balls at the end. It was good, to be honest, but I was not in any way into sports except swimming. I'm more into books and extra-curricular activities. We walked into the cafeteria, his arm over my shoulder and I could feel all the eyes on us or rather me in particular. Anyways, we made it to our regular table where the rest of them already resided.

"Hi," Sophia stood up squealing, super-excited.

Eerie waved to me from a corner table, she was there with her girlfriend, enjoying the lunch.

"So there's breaking news around the school today," Sophia cheered.

"Soph, it's not just breaking, it's hot and sizzling breaking news but it's more like heartbreaking to girls," Jasmine joined in.

"What are you speaking of?" I asked casually, sipping my drink.

Beside me, Christian gave a toothy grin and playfully placed a hand over mine. It was like he already knew what they were speaking about. But he was with me all the time, if he knew then so should I. Everyone was already smiling and I felt out of place actually.

"Don't act like you don't know," Sophia scrutinized, narrowing her eyes at me.

"Congo," Duncan cheered from beside her.

"Didn't you read the school newspaper?" Jasmine hopped in.

"You got popular, nerdy," Jasmine nodded towards me.

"Oh! Come on, Jas, she was destined to be,"

"Hey, I'm not a nerd, okay?" I snapped at both of them.

"So, the breaking news around the school today which may be the whole district knows by now is that Mr Christian Woods and Blaire Willy are together," Sophia said, mimicking like holding a mike in front of her mouth and standing on the podium making some sort of announcement.

"And, and," Jase joined in again, "someone from the newspaper club, had this printed in today's issue, in big bold letters," she said handing over the newspaper to me.

"Page 5, Around the school," Duncan stated the page number and heading.

I rolled my eyes, " How come I do not know about something printed in the newspaper? I'm not going to get Aaron for this."

"Sounds celebritical, hah!" I further added.

"Stop wondering what's celebritical, I came up with it just now okay? I mean like celebrities," I raised my fingers, quoting the last two words in the air.

All those time, I observed James who didn't even speak a word except just smiled and nodded. I was pretty sure that something was going on because Chris got the hints too.

We should complete the talk later this evening which was left unfinished in the field.

"Chris, the first tryouts of basketball championship is scheduled this Monday," James said, looking up from the school tablet.

"What? We have just got four days in between."

"James, call a team meeting this evening in the basketball auditorium, and also don't forget to call the freshman year, I need to discuss a lot with the coach," Chris ordered, professionally.

"Aye captain," James gave a lop-sided smile.
