...

You get mere steps away from what James tells you is the control room when more guards appear from within it. Not four or five, but this time countless guards, all armed.

Your vision swims, and for a moment you think that Loki disappearing from next to you is just your eyesight playing tricks on you. But then the pressure of his arm disappears from underneath yours, and you're falling, fast.

Before you even have time to think, your head is travelling swiftly towards the ground. Instead of the hard blow you're expecting, however, the back of your skull hits flesh. Hands, which carefully lower your head to the ground.

I'm sorry. Don't panic. I'm still here.

Loki's voice sounds clear in your mind, but you still can't see him. You blink a few times in confusion, and feel his fingertips on your forehead.

I'm just invisible.

Hands drag you to your feet, and the feel of Loki's hand disappears.

I'll find you.

You see Maya, James, Frankie and Margo being handcuffed and led away; Frankie yelling and lashing out as Margo is dragged away from her, now unconscious.

Trust me.

Loki's voice in your head again, this time fainter as you're led stumbling down a corridor away from him, away from the control room. You try and say his name, but nothing comes out.

The last thing you're aware of before you lose complete consciousness is a guard picking you up and hoisting you over his shoulder. Then, for the second time in the last few hours, your vision goes completely black.

...

"Oh good, you're awake."

The voice which enters your consciousness immediately makes you wish you weren't awake. You fight the urge to keep your eyes tightly shut and squint them open, blinking hard.

The stern looking lady from earlier is peering down at your reclined form. You would have felt immensely vulnerable even if you weren't in a dress with no shoes on with your wrists and ankles tied down.

As you squint up at her, she shifts slightly and allows the needle which she is holding behind her back to come into your view.

You breath hitches in your throat, and a horrible smile spreads across her face. In your peripheral vision you suddenly become aware of three other people in the room, all wearing medical equipment like the woman is.

"Yes. I've been waiting quite some time for this." she tells you, sounding genuinely happy, bringing the needle uncomfortably close to your skin. You can't find it in yourself to plead. You know it's useless.

So instead you close your eyes.

"What a shame. I was very impressed at how far you got with your friends earlier; I thought you'd put up much more of a fight." the woman says. You're physically unable to rise to the bait in your weakened state.

"Never mind. I hope you live up to the stories of how useful your DNA will be." she says, the smile on her face clear in her voice. You can do nothing but lie there and wait, your heartbeat now slow and weak in your ears.

You think of Jas.

But then you feel something. Warmth seems to flood your hands, and you instantly recognise it to be your powers. Your eyes fly open, and you and the woman lock eyes, shock radiating from both of you.

You think she starts to say something, but she doesn't get the chance to make a sound. Without very much effort at all, power floods from your hands, charged by the pain and fear which is abundant in your body.

The force which explodes from you is immense; it's so loud that it's almost deafening. You squeeze your eyes shut again.

You can't make it make sense, but you're not going to waste any time wondering how you got your powers back so suddenly. When your powers finish flooding from you (you have absolutely no say in the matter), you're still lying on the table, but the restraints around your wrists and ankles are gone.

Opening your eyes, you lift your head a fraction of an inch, and then use your powers to help you sit the rest of the way up. The stern woman and the three others you'd seen are lying on their backs on the floor around you, and shattered glass covers the floor.

There's blood coming from one of their heads. You look away.

Before you have time to decide what you're going to do next, you hear rushed, heavy footsteps getting swiftly louder. You prepare yourself to use your magic again, but then Loki practically falls through the doorway, which had been a few seconds previously blasted from its hinges.

He stops in his tracks, breathing hard and taking in the chaos which surrounds you, shock written all over his face. Then he looks up at you, and immediately moves across the room towards you. He's covered in blood (you can't tell whether it's his own) and his hair is all over the place.

You think about saying something witty, but then the room lurches again and you have to close your eyes, lowering your chin.

"Are you alright?" Loki asks you, his hands descending on your shoulders, his thumbs brushing your collarbone.

"Yeah. Brilliant." you tell him breathlessly, the tiniest ounce of sarcasm making its way into your voice.

"Sorry, stupid question. But they didn't do anything to you?" he asks.

You shake your head wordlessly, and then feel warmth flooding through your shoulders and down your arms and torso. Loki's healing magic gets to work almost scarily quickly; now that he's able to use his magic at full capacity he has no trouble in healing you completely.

Within seconds you already feel less woozy and dizzy, and you're able to open your eyes again. His face is inches above yours, this time clear rather than blurred and shifting.

"What did you do?" you ask him quietly.

"Thank you for saving my life Loki." Loki says sarcastically. You smile painfully.

"Thank you." you oblige him, and he grins at you. You're glad you're sat down.

"I got into the control room and blew the thing to bits." he tells you, moving one of his hands to the wound on your head. You wince as he does so.

"Sorry." he says, and warmth floods through your skull. It feels good.

"It's okay." you murmur. He doesn't continue talking, so you have to probe him.

"The thing? What does that mean?" you ask.

"The room."

"You blew the whole room up." you repeat, unsure whether you're understanding him correctly.

"Yes."

"Do you know that we're underground?"

"Yes, I expect it will have damaged the structure of this building quite seriously. I don't know what else I was expected to do though." Loki tells you, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"No, it's good. Thank you. I'm just concerned about..." you lift your arms up, gesturing at the ceiling.

"I agree. We need to get out of here as soon as we can."

"First we need to find the others." you say, as the warmth vanishes from your body. You now feel completely fine, and fully energised.

"Yes."

"Thanks for healing me. Let's go." you say, thinking of Margo who had been unconscious when they separated your group.

"Wait." Loki says, placing a cool hand on your arm. You look up at him, and there's that look in his eyes again. You're suddenly nervous; your mouth turning dry.

"What?" you ask, your voice quiet.

"I-" he says, his eyes searching yours as though the words he wants to say might be written behind them. You wait, your pulse quickening by the second. You could both be dead in minutes; it's a miracle that you're not already.

Say it, say it, say it...

"Loki, they could be in trouble..." you say, hating the words that come out of your mouth.

"Yes. Sorry. Let's go." he says, his hand sliding from your arm. Your heart is pounding as he helps you down from the table, and you hasten from the room.

"Do you know where they are?" you ask Loki as you rush down the corridor, enjoying the feel of your now fully functional limbs and the power which is surging through your veins.

"No, but-" he begins to say, but then there is a large explosion of sound to your left, followed by yells. It is then that you remember that James, Frankie and Margo all possess powers as well.

"Never mind. Found them." you grin.
