Chapter 28. Arseholes and an Apology

-Cara-

The release was one of the most intense she had ever experienced, at least that was what it felt like, from what her body seemed to recall. It was mind-blowingly intense, leaving her shivering all over as the aftershocks hit her repeatedly.

"Keegan! Are you here? Did you find her?" Jared's voice came closer with every second and Cara had a hard time staying quite as she came back down from her release. She had let out a loud sound, that wasn't far from a scream, as she came and Keegan had chimed in when her orgasm intensified everything for him.

"He'll hear you." moaned Keegan after they had shared a long and heated kiss. Cara let out a last loud moan. One of his large hands silenced her by covering her mouth and most of the lower part of her face. "Keep it down." He warned her, not wanting his friend to hear her.

Cara whimpered by the sensation every thrust left her with. Keegan's left hand had a sturdy grip around the back of her neck and his eyes were closed. However, not by what they were doing. Not anymore at least. Now his eyes were closed because he was trying to block Jared out of his mind as he kept shouting in their vicinity.

"Where are you?" She breathed after she had removed his hand and kissed him deeply again.

"Keegan?!" Jared's voice was coming even closer and she felt him getting ripped out of what they were doing.

"I... uh..." Keegan groaned incoherently. "I am here." Cara heard in his voice that even though he might did not know it himself, he wasn't telling her the truth.

"Do you want to stop?" She whispered in hesitation. There was no part of her that wanted to stop, but it did not feel right to continue if he wasn't in for it any longer. A dark growl left him and he opened his eyes, staring intently into hers. It made her smile a little, letting her know that she was wrong.

"No! I just do not want him to see you." He answered her. "Not like this." He kissed her and pushed her against himself, causing her to whimper as her clit brushed against him and shooting thrilling waves throughout her whole body.

"Keegan! You arse! Answer me!" Jared shouted from what could only be described as ten feet away.

"Shut the fuck up, Jared!" Keegan shouted furiously. His hands' grip around Cara tightened in frustration. Jared had ruined it for Keegan. "I cannot believe this." He sighed. "I am so sorry." The green eyes were unveiled from his lust and were staring into hers, filled with guilt.

"It is fine." She giggled while she suppressed everything she wanted to do to Jared right now. One part of her wanted to throw something in his stupid face, hopefully breaking something in the process, but judging from Keegan's mood, he was more likely to do it than her.

-Keegan-

Jared had drawn his last breath.

Cara got off of him and got dressed in a second. Keegan did the same but faster. He was so infuriated with Jared. Keegan kissed Cara deeply but quickly before he exited the small haven they had taken shelter in.

"Stay here." He whispered. Cara nodded and adjusted her clothing so there wouldn't be any traces of what they had just done.

As Keegan came out of the bushes, Jared appeared in his line of sight when he turned to his right. He raised his arm, pointing furiously at Jared, who immediately stopped.

"There you ar- Why do you look so mad?" Jared asked and flinched backwards as he noticed the aggressiveness in Keegan's strides. "What is the matter?"

"You absolute arsehole, I am going to murder you!" Keegan growled.

For a second, Jared's eyes dropped and Keegan wanted to die. He watched as Jared quickly figured out why his best friend was so fuming mad and coming at him at a speed that could only mean trouble.

"Oh, shite! I am so sorry Keegan!" Blurted Jared but the corners of his mouth twitched upwards. He continued backing as Keegan quickened his pace. "Did you-" Keegan caught up with Jared and swung his arm around his neck, locking him in a grip that would soon have him begging for air.

"What the fuck do you think?" He growled darkly. "Why would you-" He stopped talking when his anger took over. What the hell had he followed him out here for?! "You are dead." He snarled.

"How am I supposed to know that you were - finally - getting some-" Keegan tightened the grip around Jared's neck so he couldn't utter whatever he was going to say about him and Cara.

"Finish that sentence." growled Keegan. "I dare you." The last sentence was a threatening whisper. Jared fought for air but still managed to utter some words:

"Fucking... not... my fault... you were... a bloody virgin..." He gasped for air whenever he got the chance, leading to the incoherent babbling that came out of him.

"Keegan, he is blue." Keegan twitched at the sound of Cara's voice. She had walked out of the bushes and came towards them.

The signs of their recent activity were clear as day even though she was fully dressed: her cheeks were a shade of red and pink and she was combing her hair as she walked towards them. The ample lips were somewhat swollen and her eyes still radiated the same fire that had burnt in them when she had straddled him earlier.

Keegan shook his head to not fall into a train of thoughts that would make this situation even more uncomfortable than it already was.

Why is she coming out of there? Does she not care if he sees her?

"Keegan." She repeated his name when he did not answer her, or let go of Jared.

"What?" He mumbled, still very distracted by his own thoughts.

"Let go of him." She chuckled quietly and nodded at Jared, whom was indeed changing color by now.

"Oh." Keegan mumbled and let go of his friend, whom fell to the ground and landed with a heavy thud. Jared drew a deep and agonized breath when he was suddenly free.

Cara walked up to Keegan and gave him a warm look. Keegan took two steps away from Jared, he did not want him anywhere near her if he was going to say something crude.

"Why though?" He asked her discreetly as he met her beautiful eyes.

"Because he is blue." She giggled in a whisper and pointed her whole hand towards Jared who was still on his knees on the ground. Afterward, she placed her hand on his chest and it sent ripples through his whole body.

"Congratulations on taking his flower." Jared managed to utter the snide comment between coughs even thought he could barely breathe. It was not meant for Cara though, it was for Keegan.

"You really do not know when to shut up." Keegan growled and went to rip him up on his feet.

Cara's hand appeared on his right upper arm, stopping him from hurting Jared again.

"Thank you very much." She answered Jared with her eyes beaming with irony and wit. Her tone signaled that Jared's comment had not bothered her at all. "Can we help you with something, Jared? Or would you like Keegan to-"

"No, for all the love of the Gods do not let go of that brute!" Jared exclaimed and quickly got on his feet. "You might be the only one to control that beast..." He pumped his shoulder once. "Although, you are the one causing this new side of him." He muttered the last part under his breath when he realized that Keegan was shooting him a pitch black glare.

"Stop teasing him then." Cara snapped back, earning her a short, surprised but very amused laugh out of Jared.

Keegan's brows furrowed as Cara outsmarted Jared without even trying. He looked at her quickly and she met his gaze briefly; She looked content and winked at him when Jared was not looking.

When Keegan turned his gaze back to Jared, he was giving Cara a puzzled look.

"What?" He asked him, annoyed that he was looking at her at all.

"When did she learn to speak the common tongue so... good?" Jared asked Keegan like Cara was not standing right next to him.

"I am right here." Cara reminded him and waved her hand softly. Jared shot her a faint smile before looked at Keegan again, still waiting for an answer, whom just shrugged his shoulders.

"She is a quick learner... Why are you here?" Keegan replied. A cheeky smirk spread out over Jared's lips and Keegan knew that he was thinking about something else. "Careful." He warned him before he said anything stupid.

"I just wanted to make sure you found her." He replied. "She almost knocked me over in the square when she bolted towards the gates." He said and raised his eyebrows afterwards. "Guess you did... and-" He chuckled and pouted his lips.

"Shut it." Keegan warned him.

-Cara-

To make sure Keegan didn't murder Jared on the spot, Cara suggested that they walked back to the village. The boys agreed, but she suspected that they were just doing it to humor her. Jared probably knew that he would be a dead man if they had stayed.

They barely talked on the way back and Keegan looked very bothered by Jared's presence as they walked down the dirt road to his family's home. He threw dark stares in his friend's direction now and then, whenever he wasn't throwing Cara a nervous but warm look.

Cara found it awkward but still quite adorable how Keegan and Jared were acting. Almost like pouting brothers. Neither of them wanted to acknowledge that they had both done something wrong; Keegan with the almost-murder and Jared with the... inappropriate and rather unfortunate timing.

"Why are you so..." Cara bit her lip when she couldn't find a word for grumpy.

Keegan shot her a dark but sexy look; his brows slightly furrowed and the green eyes searching hers.

"Why am I so what?" He asked quietly so Jared, whom was walking three steps behind them, would not hear him.

"I do not know the word for what you are right now." She purred and bit down on her lower lip when he made her blush a bit.

"Frustrated." Keegan informed her.

"No, that is not it." She pondered out loud with her eyes narrowed. "You are... mad, but not really mad..."

"He is fucking grumpy." Jared answered her behind them.

Looks like he heard us... but I guess that is their word for whatever mood Keegan is in right now. She thought and grimaced to try and suppress the laughter that was trying to rip its way out of her.

"I would not be grumpy if you were somewhere else." Keegan growled without turning around.

"Keegan is grumpy because he did not get to finish, that can is the only explanation for why he is acting like such a dick." Jared threw the words out and then bolted past them.

Cara only got the first and the last part but from the way Keegan set off after Jared it could not have been anything nice.

"Stop and let me kill you like you deserve!" Keegan shouted as he went after Jared.

Cara laughed quietly to herself as the two, so-called men, tumbled to the ground about twenty feet ahead of her and wrestled each other to ground.

. . .

When they arrived at the house, Miriam was still sitting in her garden. But when she heard Keegan and Jared's arguing she shot up and hurried over to them. While she walked, she nervously brushed her dirty hands off on her apron.

"There you are!" She gasped as soon as Cara entered her line of sight. "What happened?" She asked as she made her way over to them. Before Cara or Keegan could answer she asked another question: "Why did you ask what year it is?" She wondered and tilted her head.

"Mother." cautioned Keegan. "Do not bring it up." He mumbled something through his teeth which made it impossible for Cara to hear what he actually said.

"Oh... No, of course not. Silly me." Miriam grimaced and rubbed her palms together. "Well... dinner is ready." She sighed and seemed a bit uncomfortable. This was not the ordinary Miriam. She was not like this and Cara wondered what had her acting so strange. "Go home, Jared. There is not enough for you." She added stiffly. Cara's eyebrows shot upwards because of the rather rude comment, but then she was soothed because this was exactly like Miriam.

Then Cara suddenly remember what Keegan had asked her in the woods, on behalf of his mother. A question that was also kind of rude.

That must be why she is acting so weird... Thought Cara and studied Miriam for a long moment, which clearly made the woman even more uncomfortable than she already was. Maybe she can explain what Keegan asked me about before... Maybe she can explain why he practically asked me if I am evil?! She felt her temper grow much fouler as she remembered the whole conversation.

"What is a witch?" She blurted the word out before Jared could answer Miriam's comment.

"You asked her?" Miriam hissed at her son while her eyes flickered between them.

"Yes." Keegan answered darkly. "I asked her and she did not understand what the word meant. And, just like I told you, there is nothing to worry about. So, now you can have the pleasure of telling her." He answered his mother and walked inside.

"Oh! You son of a-" Miriam stopped talking in shock by her oldest son's behavior.

"Cara." Keegan called for her. "Do you want to come in and eat or stay here?" He asked her, speaking over his mother.

"I want to know what it means..." She answered him but did not look away from his mother.

"Dear..." Miriam sighed and rubbed her right palm against her forehead, nervously. "I... Uhm..."

"Do you think I am evil?" Cara asked her directly and did not sugarcoat it. That would not get her anywhere with this woman. Miriam was a straightforward and rather brash woman, so she could be this too.

"No!" Miriam gasped and shook her head. "No, dear Cara. I do not think you are evil."

"Why did you-"

"I just... I do not know, child." She interrupted Cara and then herself. "I do not know."

"What is a witch?" Cara asked her again.

"It is hard to explain." Miriam answered her after having thought about it for a moment. "I cannot describe it to you... maybe someone else can?" She wondered out loud. "Do you really want to know what it means?"

"The old man can tell me." Cara stated. "Can't he?"

The look on Miriam's face told her that the old man definitely could, but hesitation rested in her eyes. Something about the look in her eyes told Cara that Miriam did not want her to find out what it meant.

"Yes, he can." Miriam confirmed.

-Keegan-

When his mother and Cara came inside, his mother seemed very quiet and filled with shame. Cara sat down next to him and did not seem too keen on talking, just like his mother.

"Are you alright, dear?" His father asked his mother when she took her seat at the table.

"I am fine. Eat." She replied. "Keegan." She waved for him to hand her his plate, but that was not why she had said his name.

"Yes?" He asked and handed her his plate.

"Tomorrow you are taking Cara to the old arse down the road. She needs another lesson." She mumbled and served him his food. "And I am sorry that I offended you Cara." She added while she waved for her plate.

The whole dinner party stopped what they were doing and looked up at the woman who would rather die than apologize to someone. After they had stared at her for about ten seconds, all but Keegan turned their gazes to Cara, his was still on his mother.

"What happened?" Orla asked confused.

"Yes, what did you do, mother?" Flynn almost whispered.

"That is obviously between your mother and Cara. It is not meant for our ears." Their father broke the silence, coming to his wife's rescue. "But I imagine that your mother feels very awful about it if she is apologizing for it. Can we eat now?" He grunted and pointed down at his food with his spoon.

Keegan wanted to tell him no so his mother would have to tell everyone what she thought of Cara. No one else around this table ever got off easy when doing something stupid or wrong, so why should she?

He watched his mother squirm internally as she waited for him to expose her in front of the family.

Her light green eyes did not beg him to stay quiet. They looked calm. Guilty and gloomy, but calm. She knew that she would deserve it if he decided to out her.

It would serve no purpose... She is already feeling bad enough and the others will find out sooner or later. He thought and grabbed his spoon. When Cara has learnt what 'witch' means... the others will find out, and then she will have to answer to them.

"Let's eat." He muttered.
