10 - Already on the run

Chapter the tenth

Already on the run

Amber's POV

"Amber, Amber, Amber..." He says slowly, carrying his ultimate weapon in his left and and a picture of me from the party in the right. There was great disappointment on his face and I couldn't blame him one bit.

There I was, in the corner of the dark room, getting smaller and smaller as he approached me. 'What in the name of cotton candy flavored phone cases am I going to do?' I questioned myself as I shrank.

"How could you do this to yourself! What a disgrace you are to our clan!"

The photo chattered on the floor, my eyes watered at the sight before me. Was I going to die? Why did I have to spoil it all for myself. Oh dear virginity that I didn't have a chance to get rid of, you'll be lost in the afterlife, I promise!

Eyes shut, tears streaming down my face, I wait for my end. He pulls out the weapon and began shooting. Everything around me began getting colorful with every shot. "Nooo! I want to be normal for once!" I shout, running about, trying to escape the shots. But, it was too late and I was way too slow.

The huge clown stood over me, that painted smile on his face was now a frown as he pointed the paintball gun towards my face. "It's time Amber! It's time to get back to us-"

"No, no I don't want to! I can't! My pride, well my imaginary pride wouldn't allow it!" I shout, tossing and turning on my bed. Sweat was dripping down my face, my arms were swinging everywhere as I woke up from that horrid nightmare.

The only thing which brought me back to reality was the sound of the home phone in my room. Reaching out to grab the device, I was still shaken from my dream and contemplated if to answer or not. Gulping loudly, I placed it next to my ear.

"I-I... I'll join the clan!" I scream through the phone lines, still being half asleep, I didn't realize what exactly I was doing. For an intelligent being such as myself, the people of Narnia must be quite disappointed at this point in time. "Amber wake your *ss up you lazy bum! What the heck is wrong with your mobile! Why didn't you hear me calling?!"

The sound of Eva's voice brought me back to reality. Rubbing my hand down my face, all common sense returned to my body. Grabbing the phone, being that it was cordless, I sat up with my back pressed against the wall. "You do know we don't have school right? And that my study time is like," I pause, searching for the time on my wall clock.

Continuing with what I was saying, I say, "In like... what the cow dung?! Ten minutes!"

I was freaking out, never have I woken up so late on a weekday! What on earth was wrong with me, why didn't I hear my alarm this morning. Oh yeah, Jaden Brat has my phone. Well at least one of us woke up early this morning. It was almost noon for crying out loud. No wonder my dream about unicorns and science experiments turned out to be a nightmare about clowns.

"You had a nightmare about clowns?" Eva questions me, I could imagine her furrowing her brows at me. A sigh escapes my lips. I really needed to stop speaking out loud. "I'm not even going to explain it so don't even ask."

"Um... awkward," Eva says with a laugh, "But ya, I called to kindly ask you to come over to help a gal out. You know, bestie to bestie. Girl to girl help. Yeah, yeah, yeah?"

"I am not hacking Fiance's Facebook account for you Eva. I've already told you that she was straight," I respond, rolling my eyes at her attempt in getting me to invade someone else's privacy.

"F*ck, and here I thought I had you fooled," She says finding the most humor out of the situation. "But anywho Amber, still come over, I still need your help with some stuff."

"Okay E, I'll be there in a few."

"Thanks A, you're a lifesaver." And with that she hung up.

I couldn't quite comprehend what exactly Eva wanted. Usually we met up at my house because I would stand her up just to do some quick studying. Just like me, Eva seemed to be keeping something away from me. I hope that I will find out what it is today.

Knowing how out of hand secrets can get, I didn't want her to be keeping one away from me too. You know, the last time our friendship was ruined, now, who knows what could happen. One of us could even get killed. Or maybe, she is part of some secret agency and is about to reveal her big secret to me today.

Oh goodness, I need to hurry!

Rushing out of my bed, my foot got stuck in the sheets and I took a face plant on the cold hardwood floor. So much for beauty sleep. I groan, staying on the floor for a few more seconds, trying to recover from that fall.

Getting all dressed up to go over to Eva's place didn't take much time at all. You'd swear that I had some sort of super power because I was already walking up her driveway and it was only half past noon. Hell yeah, I'm quick like that.

Okay, I can't believe that I just said that... My life is getting more and more embarrassing by the minute. I'm glad that I didn't say that out loud, damn.

"You actually did, but, I was going to let it slid if only you didn't say everything else out loud," Eva laughs, walking from the side of her house with some flowers from her garden in her hand. I wonder what she needed those for.

"I should really stop talking to myself mentally, it doesn't settle well with my self image."

"What self image?" Eva asks humorously but I only stare at her open mouthed and wide eyed as we entered her house. Turning over her shoulder to look at me, reality dawned upon her, "Oops, But hey, you know that I didn't lie."

Punching her shoulder, we both laughed it off before walking into her living room.

"You know what I've noticed Amber... You're getting out of your shell these past few days," Eva comments, dropping herself forcefully on her L-shaped sofa. Being the clueless mosquito that I am, I questioned her as to what she meant.

"Dude, look at you! You're wearing black baggy pants, a white baggy shirt and pink freaking shoes! You haven't dressed so color coded before. Well minus the party, no one can f*ck up how they dress for a party."

"I-I... I ... I don't know what you're talking about..." I stammer, now realizing the purpose of my earlier nightmare. This was my mission, I was here to save every other no-life-loner like myself! I was here to shine the light of fashion upon them! I was here to allow the ones like myself to spread their wings out and fly! Fly in the sky of the socially accepted individuals! Soon, we all will be equal.

"Could you please sit down and stop doing that weird *ss pose," Eva suggests, giving me a weird stare as she sends a magazine at me. Where did she pull it out of, I don't know... For sure it couldn't be in her void of eternal darkness...

"Yeah, sure," I say, letting out a shaky laugh. Gosh, I really know how to make a fool out of myself. I'm so glad that Eva doesn't find it funny.

"It is ridiculously funny but you're my best friend and I tend to ignore the fact that I think you have some sort of mental problem. You know, but just so we have something clear, your outfit still looks like shi-"

"Wow, what a way to pop my microscopic bubble... Way to go E."

Letting out a laugh and making herself more comfortable on the sofa, she gives me a goofy grin then replies, "Anytime A."

We got comfortable and began watching a chick flick movie. Cliche was good but the cliche which brought me to tears, I hated that shizznit til the very bottom of hell. Movies like that should have you smiling and what not, you know, butterflies flying everywhere, just like a first kiss. Not that I've experienced one, I just have the idea that some kind of mushy and happy feeling should occur.

Eva and I joked like we always did. She spoke about the flowers she picked earlier. And that it was only a replacement for the previous ones in the vase next to the front door. My mind was so far that I didn't notice that she put them in the vase after we entered. I am so oblivious at times, I swear, it wants my fault.

"Oh damn, it's already a few minutes to two, sh*t!" Eva exclaims, jumping up from where she laid herself. What on earth was going on in that cracker nackle of hers?

"What's the matter?" I ask.

"Well smarty pants, remember I called and said I needed help with some stuff, why didn't you remind me! I'm leaving at six! You need to help me pack my last bag of stuff!"

Eva began shaking her head and then stood up and then starts to pace in the living room. Okay, I was now confused. Where was she going? What did she need to pack her bags for?

"Um, hello, earth to Eva. What the donkey scrotum is going on here?" I question, snapping my fingers in her face. Blinking ferociously, she then shakes her head and gave me a sign to follow her. Not really having much of a choice, I trailed behind as she dashed up the stairs and into her room.

As we walked in, she began to explain. "Well you see, we have three more weeks until the reopening of the senior block, right?" I nod, urging her to continue what she was saying. "So, my old folks didn't want me to stay home on my own in fear that I host the most destructive party of the year. I know, I was already planning everything out. So, my mom arranged for me to meet them in Paris and my flight takes off at seven. The cab is picking me up at  six."

"Oh," I say, my voice having a hint of sadness in it. So Eva was leaving me too. Wow, what a great going Amber, everyone who means something to you isn't there to spend the last few weeks of no school with you. What am I going to do now? Sigh.

A hand was gently placed on my shoulder and I looked up. My eyes meeting Eva's grey ones. She offers me a soft smile and asks, "What's wrong with your face kiddo?" Shrugging, I took a seat on the edge of her bed. "Nothing... All the interest of our little 'vacation' has gone; well for my share at least. What am I going to do now?"

"Live like you've never lived before!" Eva shouts, saluting me and them bowing. I raise my left brow at her, wondering what on earth was going through that thick skull of hers. She must be sh*ting me right?

"I'm just going to pretend as if I'm going to consider your idea," I reply, letting out a chuckle. Eva shakes her head at me and then we began packing. All throughout the process, my emotions were mixed. Hmm, what am I actually going to do for three more weeks without my best friend?

*

Saying goodbye to my other half was really hard but I needed to man up and accept that it was for the better. It's not like she was leaving forever or anything. It was only for a few weeks Amber, nothing to worry about.

For my entire journey to my house, I've been trying my best to convince myself that I would have a pretty normal life even if Eva wasn't there. But, no matter how much I try to think positively, I remember what a wreck I was for the little while we were split up. A sigh escapes my lips as I walk down my driveway. I really need to make new friends while I could.

As I was about to unlock the front door, my eyes registered a shadow under the potted plant. Analyzing my surroundings, I saw an envelope between the leaves. Hesitantly, I inched towards the object. Was it going to be a bomb? What if I pulled it and something fell from the sky? What if, just what if?

Taking the risk, I took the envelop, opened it and began reading. The letter was as follows:

Hey thief, having fun with my 'stuff'? Well, since your home had a security system, I didn't want to break in. Remembering that my phone has a tracking device, I located its whereabouts and it let me to this place. Hmm, sneaky, sneaky.

I just wanted you to know that I will come to collect my packages and give you a little treat for your nasty attitude. Oh, and thanks for doing me a favor, I was meaning to break up with that boring b*tch anyway.

So, I'll be at your place later today, between 7 & 8 p.m., be present or you'll regret it.

Lots of pain,

Jaden Brat.

My eyes were bulging out of their sockets! What in the name of my sanity and IQ was I going to do now? Jaden knew where I lived but he still doesn't know who I am.

Staring at the sky, I noticed that it was maybe already minutes to seven and I needed to get out of here pretty quick. He did say that he had a treat for me and because I knew better, I knew that he was going to kill me and make it seem as though I committed suicide.

'Amber, the only thing to do know is to run away from this place and try to be off Jaden's radar,' I tell myself. And just like that, I dashed inside my house, gathered the stuff and made a run for it, in the first direction that I could think of.

There was no way in hell that I, Amber Michelle, would allow myself to be caught so easily by my biggest nightmare, Jaden Brat.
