05 - The mystery girl, that's me
Chapter the Fifth
The mystery girl, that’s me
Amber’s POV
Approaching the driveway of my house, I let out a groan. In complete honesty, I didn't want to return to the place of the incident so soon. I haven't recovered from the hit as yet and I for one wasn't prepared to face my father or mother for that matter. It's true that they both have gone off to achieve a day's work but they could have returned home to grab something extra. I just hoped that neither of them forgot or needed anything 'extra'.
Eva lets out a sigh from the driver's seat and I then realize that we were already parked in my once empty driveway. Turning to face my best friend, she gives me this worried look. "Amber, something is wrong. Willing to share?" She asks, reaching out and holding my hand in hers.
This was really comforting but there were times where I didn't want to burden Eva with my problems. Shaking my head and flashing a fake smile, I mentally composed a reply. "I'm perfectly fine Eva. I was just wondering about how I'll spend this month out of school. What else could have been the matter?" I lied, hoping that she would buy it. But... as we all know, I suck at lying.
"Amber, how stupid do I look?" Eva questions.
"You are blonde..." I trail off, trying to make a blonde joke. Eva stares at me wide eyed, let’s go of my hand and punches me on the shoulder. It hurt more than I expected but then she burst out in a fit of laughter. "That, my friend is besides the point here. I was meaning to ask you this from the school but I was too distracted."
"What?" I ask, lifting a brow at her. I've never been in a serious conversation like this with Eva. She rolls her eyes at me and then flashes me an annoyed expression.
"Really Amber..? Are you really going to play dumb? The fucking bruise on your face! What happened?" She snaps and I immediately look out the window. Using the hand closest to me, she turns my head to face her. "Come on A, I'm your best friend. You can talk to me."
"My father hit me E. But it's okay... He was going to hit my mom instead but I came just in time," I explain and her face quickly softens.
"Oh gosh Amber, you should really find help for him. That or I'll have to beat some sense into him myself," Eva suggests, balling up her fists and making a funny face. Seriously, did she really think that composure made her look tough? Think again my little Eva.
"You do know you look stupid when you do that, right?" I say, snickering a little and shaking my head. She nods quickly, replying to my statement, "Yup, but look on the bright side, you're no longer gloom."
She was right; this little talk did make me feel more like a duck than a goose or, was it the other way around. No one cares, I'm feeling much better. Oh what would I have done if I didn't have a crazy idiot as a best friend? The only one who would know the answer to this would be the big man up in the sky.
"I wish I could stay A, but I have some shopping to do and then some other stuff. How about if I come over tomorrow..?"
"That'd be great. Thanks for the lift E. See ya later!" I shout, exiting the car and carelessly closing the door on my shirt. My cheeks flush instantly because I was not expecting this to happen. Even after I got myself unstuck, I could hear Eva's roar of laughter as she drives away and waves me goodbye.
How much more clumsy could I get? Ha-ha, on the bright side, it wasn't a guy who dropped me off to my house. If that had been the case I would have died from humiliation. I always wished to die in some fancy way. Like saving a baby who was crossing the road or falling off a tree trying to help a cat find its way down. Okay, I'll admit, the last one was a little retarded.
Making my way to the front door of my house, I heard a few muffling sounds on the inside. Gulping loudly, I was about to take a step back, in fear that some psycho was robbing my house. I mean, I couldn't have done anything to stop him or them anyways. I'd just get myself killed without a fight.
To make things simple I would have willingly offered myself as a hostage. That way, they would make more money and fewer people would be harmed.
I did have a gun in Jaden's school bag but, in all honesty, I didn't know how these things worked. Even if I did think about using it on the individuals they would have time killed me because I moved so freakishly slow when in panic.
Putting an end to my lingering thoughts, the front door opens and reveals my parents. They stare at me with a straight face and I gave them my 'okay-what-is-going-on-here' face. In both their hands they carried huge bags. Yes, you know the ones you travel with? Well, those were the ones!
"What are you doing home so early Amber? Aren't you supposed to be at school?" My father questions as he takes a tighter grip on his bag. His teeth gritted together and it scared me a little. As if on cue, I felt the pain on my cheeks return. I guess it activated every time I got in a close proximity to my father.
"Her school has a one month vacation due to some incident Asher. She'll be home for some time. I got the email this morning," my mother answers for me.
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier Mary? Fuck, by then we could have left here sooner!" He exclaims, walking past me. At the same time a taxi pulls up on the side of the road.
My father calls my mother over whilst he placed his bags in the trunk. She offers me a sorry look and follows after him. Before leaving my presence, she whispered to me, "I'm sorry Amber but I left plenty of money for you in your savings chest and the credit card is in the drawer in your room."
In all honesty, I swear I just laid an egg in my underwear and it popped on my butt. Did that really just happen? Well that was a better conclusion than the robbers thingy.
You know, my life is beginning to sound more fictional every minute. What's next, a UFO will land on my roof?
The sound of the engine of the taxi almost gave me heart attack. For a split second I thought that my assumptions were made true. I should really stop thinking of things which could never happen. 'Get yourself together Amber, you are not going to crap your undies today!' I say, scolding myself.
Shaking my head, I try ignoring what just occurred. Entering my house and locking the door after me, I made my way to my room. Right now I felt numb. I couldn't believe that my parents wanted to leave me behind without a word. Where ever they were headed must have been important. OR, they wanted to get away from me. Either way made sense.
Gently placing Jaden's bag on my bed, I decided to call Eva and tell her what had just happened.
Digging into the bag in search for my phone, I then face palm myself. For a moment there I forgot that I didn't have it. With Jaden's phone in hand, I take a seat at the edge of my bed. There was no way in me calling Eva now because I didn't own a home phone. The only one was located downstairs in the office. A place I was forbidden to enter.
"What could his password be?" I question myself with a hum. He had the four digit lock and it was rather complicated to guess a random number right off the bat.
Taking my chances, I type in my passcode into it: 1-2-3-4. Sadly, Jaden wasn't as creative, intelligent and super slick as I was because the passwords didn't match. I wonder what Jaden Brat's four digit number could have been.
Thinking hard enough to grow a beard, a light bulb flashed! "That's it!" I shout, finally figuring out what his passcode was.
His name is Jaden Brat, right? Well his last name does have four letters so; he might have used their substitutes. B = 2, R = 6, A = 2, T = 7. Hurriedly, I typed in the four numbers and immediately jumped up and did a happy dance because I was right! Wow, being a nerd sure does pay off in the long run, huh.
The phone almost tumbled to the floor the moment it vibrated in my hand. I wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary to happen so it kind of startled me.
From: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Hmm I wonder if you can figure out my passcode, thief.
My mouth hangs open for three reasons at this point. One, since when did Jaden get my number, two, why did he save me as loner-nerd-clown and why on earth was he calling me a thief when he was the one who practically stole my bag?!
To: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Um... Sorry but you're the one who took 'my' bag so you're the only thief here... Not meaning to be rude or anything...
Even in text I was scared to talk to Jaden. The guy was intimidating, who knew what he had under those sleeves of his? I don't know if he can jump out of phones and beat persons to the pulp. Anything can happen in this day and time you know.
From: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Last time I checked I didn't steel anything. If I did I would have known smartass.
To: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Thank you for the compliment but it is not my fault that you're a dumbass and didn't realize that what you were carrying wasn't your bag. Where did you get that gun from anyway?
Oh my goodness, I just called Jaden a dumbass! I knew all along that I was signing my own death certificate but now it was really obvious. I have never sworn in my entire life and right now I'm swearing in text. How hopeless could I get?
But... I was already claiming my death sentence so who ducking cared anymore? Okay, I did but that was beyond the point. This was kind of fun.
From: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Wow, you grew some balls whoever you are. Trust me, when I get hold of you, you're going to be fucking pulverized for three reasons. 1 - Calling me a dumbass, 2 - taking hold of my bag, 3 - invading my motherfucking privacy you sonofabitch!
Well who would have guessed...? I touched a nerve. I felt threatened and safe at the same time. He didn't know who I was, school was closed for a month and I think he got my number from the school's website. I don't have a picture of myself there and my name is private.
To: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Correction, I didn't grow balls more like ovaries and its daughterofabitch...
From: Loner-Nerd-Clown: You really are trying to piss me off aren't you girly?
After reading this statement I rejoiced for putting a voice lock on my pictures and my Facebook. Eva was the one who advised me on doing so and I couldn't thank her enough. But... there was some other stuff on my mobile which could be terrible if he found out about them.
To: Loner-Nerd-Clown: Ha, and what are you going to do about it big boy?
From: Loner-Nerd-Clown: What am I going to do? Ruin and make a mess out of your life of course.
‘That’ my friends is when I realized that I made the worst decision in a lifetime. I, Amber Michelle, even if I was the mystery girl behind the texts; I gained an enemy. Not just some simple and random enemy but the bad boy of my school. The one guy who scared me out of my skin, the guy who wouldn't even need to try too hard to kill me, only a blink could have one the trick.
Oh dang, I'm too young to die!
