03 - What the... What's going on?
Chapter the Third
What the... What's going on?
Amber's POV
I couldn't sleep at all last night. The thought of having a gun in Jaden's school bag was too much for me to take in. I mean, I had a freaking gun in my room! How on earth could I have peacefully slept with that thought in mind? No, no, how on earth did Jaden sleep knowing that he was in possession of a killing device?
Right after I found out that his bag contained a gun yesterday afternoon, I made a run for it. Though I was feeling dehydrated and on the verge of fainting, I needed to get to my house. Lucky for me, my parents won't home so they couldn't question me on why I rushed inside the house like a maniac.
Speeding upstairs into my room, I wrapped the gun with one of my really large T-shirts. What can I say, I ducking panicked! There was a level of badass that I couldn't pass and that was 'nerd vandalism'. If you were wondering what nerd vandalism was it for sure wasn't carrying a gun around! Nerd vandalism is completing the equation of '4x4' on a jeep.
'4x4'=16 this is now vandalized.
Okay, I knew that's pretty stupid, but that's the most badass thing that I've ever done! Don't blame me for being a real softy, it's not my fault. I was raised in a pretty calm neighborhood where nothing dangerous ever happened!
Checking my clock on my bedroom wall, I see that I took more than fifteen minutes tying my shoe lace. Shaking my head, I decided to make my way downstairs. Grabbing hold of Jaden's bag, I felt a little scared holding it. It still troubled me, you know, but I needed to seem normal in front of my parents. I also placed Jaden's phone in the pocket of my jacket.
Walking down the stairs, I let out a frustrated groan at what I heard. 'Ugh! My parents were arguing again! Why couldn't they work things out in a civilized manner?' I thought to myself, stopping at the bottom of the stairs. Standing there, I observed what was going on.
"You allowed them to take her away Mary! You careless little b*tch!" My father wails in my mother's face. She stood her ground by folding her hands across her petit chest.
"I did what? Are you even hearing yourself Asher? You were the f*cking idiot who started the argument that morning. You were the one who got upset. You were the one who didn't want our child in the first place. You best back away you little good for nothing bastard because the blame is on yourself!" My mother exclaims, poking her finger at my father's chest.
Because he was towering over her, I swear that dragon flames were exiting his nose. Both my parents stood there, staring at the other in the eye, daring their selves to say a word. This was way too intense for me to handle; having both my parents on the verge of killing each other.
"You know that Amelia could have never been my child in the first place Mary! You slut, you were sleeping around all the time-"
The slap which my father received to his face cut off his statement. His face span to the opposite direction because that was one hell of a slap. Taking his left hand, he rubs where the bruise was forming and death glared my mother. I know that look a little too well. This marked my 'distraction' ploy.
"Morning mum, morning dad," I say, heading to their direction.
Both of my parents turned to face me. My father and mother had two different expressions on their faces. On my father's face you could clearly read, 'Take a step closer, I dear you punk,' and on my mother's own you could notice her plea, 'Stay out of this Amber, please.'
Being the hard headed moron that I was, I approached the two of them and patted them both on the shoulder. Smiling like an innocent little girl, I say, "Why are you guys arguing so early. Y'all are already dressed for work; why not get the move on."
In all honesty, what I wanted to say was, "Now you listen here punks. I have a hand gun and I'm not afraid to use it. You guys want to act tough? Well think again!" after I said that I would have fired a few shots at the ceiling and then smirk when they stared at me wide eyed.
Like hell I would do something as stupid and irrelevant as that!
"Go to school Amber, this has nothing to do with you!" My father hissed through clenched teeth. My legs began trembling but I knew that he wouldn't hurt me. I'm his daughter; he wouldn't hurt me, right? I hope not!
"Nope, not unless you guys agree to leave for work immediately," I say confidently and surprisingly as calm as ever.
I don't know what happened next, but all I knew was that I was on the floor in pain. The right side of my face hurt really badly and I could feel it throbbing. My head was spinning and I couldn't well register what in the freak was going on. My hand unconsciously brushed over the bruise and I wince in pain.
"Watch what you did now Asher! Are you proud of yourself yet?" My mother shouts at my dad and I could hear herr heels clattering on the hardwood flooring as she walked away.
"I told her to get out of here, she didn't listen! It was all her damning fault!" My father defended himself, storming off in the direction of the front door. A few seconds later the front door slammed shut and the sound of his vehicle leaving the driveway was heard.
Opening my eyes, I sat up on the floor, holding my head in my hands. My entire face hurt so badly. It all happened so fast! Who knew my dad was such a beast! I hadn't done anything wrong. All I wanted to do was to resolve a problem, not earn myself a swollen right cheek!
"You’ll be okay sweetheart, your father doesn't have control over himself sometimes," My mother says, walking towards me with her first aid kit. Extending her hand out for me to grab it, I gladly took it and she hoisted me up.
Do not cry Amber, do not freaking cry! I tried scolding myself, but the tears still ran down my face like a water fall.
I didn't reply to my mother because I didn't have anything to say. I couldn't have agreed to her statement because I knew full well that the man had control over his hands and body on the whole. My mother was only saying that just so I wouldn't hate my father more than I already did.
Taking her time, she applied some ointment to my face after cleaning it up.
"I think that would do the trick. Get your bag off the floor, I'll drop you off to school," She says, putting the first aid kit where she found it.
"Thanks mom," I say, grabbing Jaden's bag off the floor.
The drive to my school was quiet and filled with heavy tension. My mother didn't bother making conversation because she realized that I wasn't in the mood to chat. Trying to calm the mood a bit, she even tried playing some music but nothing helped.
Dropping me off in front of my school's gate we said our goodbyes and then she left. Standing there after five minutes from being dropped off, I stare at my school blankly. I was already bullied, called names and what not and to walk into the school looking as though I was growing a second face wasn't the best idea.
Pacing in front of the school gate, dressed like a clown, I raked my fingers through my hair. If you were wondering, I was wearing a red jacket, lime green khaki pants, a yellow undershirt and my purple converse. There was this thing about me; I don't know how to match clothes! It was even worse than my ability to lie!
Still walking up and down, I managed to bump into a mystery figure. This person literally growls at me and I froze. Turning to face this individual, my heart, brain and every other organ inside my body explodes.
Jaden Brat.
Tall dark and handsome was he. He was about six feet, one inch. His hair was a dark brown color; his eyes were a combination of blue and green. The dude was well built and did I forget to mention, he had the intimidating aura surrounding him.
"S-Sorry about that," I muttered, looking to the ground.
"Oh don't act sorry you puff faced, red headed clown. Anyone could see that you bumped into me on purpose. So, take your apology and shove it up your *ss. I don't need it," He says, already sounding aggravated.
Gulping loudly, I nodded, trying to make my way around him so that I could enter the school's gate. Gosh, this dude was already upset, what if he has time notice that I carried his bag to my side! I needed to get away from him and quick! I wasn’t ready to hand over his property as yet. If I needed to, I’d do it undercover.
As I was about to dismiss myself, the emergency bell rang. My face now had a confused look plastered on it as I looked beyond my school's gate. Then suddenly, the senior block exploded. When I say exploded, I mean, roof literally flying in the sky, the walls of the classes bursting and going up in flames.
My mouth hangs open at the site my eyes beheld. Jaden now had this annoyed look on his face so I took a step back. Seeing a group of guys dressed in black running from where the senior block once was and hopping over the fence and then entering a van, my attention was now diverted on them.
Just as I was about to look in Jaden's direction, I realized that he had vanished into thin air. "Okay, what the... What's going on?!" I exclaim because all this was new to me! Well, I'll just need to observe things a little more then.
