Chapter 13 - Open up
Ida's POV
The sunlight seeped through the windows, and the curtains all the same. The warm light fell on various objects in the room arranged in simplicity. I blinked a few times in an attempt to adjust my eyes to the illumination directed at me.
The blue curtains that were halfway draped around the window made my room feel calm like the ocean. Somewhere deep in the sea. The morning heat gave the room a little warmth after the cold night. The warmth was not enough, but it was satisfying.
I can never get enough of how everything is cast blue by the filtered light.
I close my eyes to stop thinking about anything and just feel and hear the silence.
It's peaceful...the silence.
The silence is peaceful, but it also meant mom was not here anymore. Thoughts from last night fill my head before I could fully enjoy the morning room.
My head is heavy, and I feel the presence of a band-aid on my forehead.
I pushed myself off the comfort of the bed and stood up to find myself in a completely new pair of clothes.
"Huh?" I wonder.
Leaving my room, I go check in the other rooms for my mother, but there was nothing more than pin drop silence.
Suddenly I hear the clatter of a steel vessel, which I assumed had fallen, in the kitchen.
"Mom?" I ask with slight delight and doubt at the same time.
I walk, okay, maybe run in the corridor towards the kitchen, but life is sick, and we all know that. The pinky toe on my left foot hits the corner of the table, and the whole world turns to ashes, or I wish it did.
"Ahhhhhh~" I roar like a pregnant bear giving birth.
With the amount of pain, I don't get enough time to think if bears do or do not roar in pain while giving birth, so I just add that on the list of things to search up.
The floor vibrates as someone comes running towards me. To my dismay, it was not mom.
"Ethan, what are you doing here?" I ask and shriek as he picks me up from the floor.
"You were not answering any of my texts, so I came here." he answers after gently placing me down on the chair.
"Did you see my mom?" I ask.
"No, she were not here when I arrived." he turns and passes me a plate filled with food. Taking a seat in front of me, he starts eating.
He looked gorgeous, as always. His hair was messy, just the way I liked it. And his eyes remained for one to get lost in. He was wearing a black shirt with no print and blue jeans.
After finishing his meal, he waits for me, and after I was done, he did not get up to take the plate away, so I assumed he wanted me to do so. Just as I grabbed his plate, he stops me and asks not to, so I sit down again.
His brows furrow, and I know what was next.
"What happened last night?" He asks with concern written all over his face.
I look away, not wanting to say anything to him.
"How did you get hurt?" he asks yet again.
After not getting an answer, he walks around the table and picks me up from my waist. I lock my legs around his body and lay my head on his shoulder.
"You make me crazy Ida." he whispers into my ears, and I smile liking the way my name sounds from his lips.
"I know, and I am sorry." I apologize.
"Don't be. I like it," he says and takes a seat on the sofa with me on his lap.
I don't move my head away from his chest. I liked hearing Ethan's heartbeat.
"Baby, please." Ethan caresses my cheek.
I dig deeper into his chest, knowing that it was going to happen eventually. It was inevitable. I could not hide it forever, at least not with him seeking the answers.
"He took my mother," I open up.
"Who?" He asks, lifting me by my chin to look at him.
I look into his eyes; they were a deep earthy brown. Those eyes had the richness of the soil. They held the sweetness of chocolate and the bitterness of strong coffee. To make it even better, the similarity of his eyes to black makes them look like stars when light reflects.
"Ida?" he distracts me from my thoughts towards him.
"My father," I Burry my head in his chest again.
After a short silence, I look at him. His eyes showed anger, and then it was covered with care. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer.
After a few moments, I decided to speak
"Your hug is stronger than anything I have ever known. As if holding me wasn't quite enough."
He slightly pulls away, his nose touching mine and our lips inches apart.
"It isn't enough. I want to eat you," he gave me a flirtatious smile.
Before his lips touched mine, I placed my hand over his mouth and got off his lap.
"What happened?" He asked, confused with my reaction.
I didn't brush my teeth!
Of course, I did not say that aloud.
