Vocabulary of the Omegaverse
~
α: Alphas are generally dominant and able to impregnate Omegas. They are the highest ranking members of a group as they hold absolute control over their group numbers. Male Alphas usually have a knot when aroused. Alphas are responsible for leading the group, establishing territory and its safety, and protecting the group from rogues. They are responsible for keeping the group in order and in control.
Δ: Deltas are similar to alphas, but only psychologically, that is to say they are aggressive and territorial. But in the presence of alphas, they are second in command next to Betas and are the right hand man/woman to alphas. Their is usually one Delta in a pack/group. Their scent isn't as strong as the alphas but not as weak as the betas. Their scent can induce heats in omegas but cannot induce ruts in alphas. Their scent is a mix of smells like the alpha.
Ε: Epsilons is a rare breed and tend to be a bridge between Alphas and Betas and only occur with an Alpha and a Beta parent. They are typically seen pairing up with Zetas and Iotas. Epsilons are similar to Alphas in their genitals but has the scent of Betas. They do not have typical shows of dominance, but it's very common for Epsilons to be cunning and tricking people to show their dominance (which is why people don't trust Epsilons often).
β: Betas are subordinates to Alphas and my be able to impregnate Omegas. Betas are often presented as having "normal" human anatomy with none of the special attributes of Alphas or Omegas. The Beta is essentially second-in-command of the pack. When the Alphas are absent, it's the Beta's job to make sure the group is organized and under control. When the Alphas are indeed away for a time they demand the same respect and control from the rest of the group. Betas comprises of over 70% of the human population. Features such as physical and behavioral traits are generally normal. Marriages between this type are the usual, with a high percentage of the child being born as a beta.
Z: Zetas are the truly neutral. They don't have pheromones or any special skills, and were actually considered genetically deficit until the late 20th century. This breed tends to be more popular with normal humans.
Θ: Thetas is a rare breed that are actually super dangerous. Thetas have a genetic mutation (that assumedly is a mutated Beta gene) that causes their "calming scent" to knock people out entirely, and it's not uncommon for Thetas to be recruited by the army as soldiers. Thetas are required to take medication that blocks their scent, but they can pass for Zetas or Betas in public.
γ: Gammas are basically betas with omega characteristics. They however lack scent glands and knots, rendering them immune to alphas, deltas and omega scents. They also cannot smell them unless their are given the information of an omega in heat or alpha in rut. However, they aren't similar to humans as they still have many characteristics similar to the omegas. They are submissive to betas, deltas and alphas, but not to omegas. They however relate to omegas as they have a strong maternal instincts rather their male or female.
I: Iotas is a rare breed and tend to be a bridge between Omegas and Betas. They go through shorter heats, and have the scent of Betas. Iotas typically need to be forced or tricked into submission which is why it's very common for Epsilons and Iotas to be mated. They do not nest, they don't care for it.
Σ: Sigmas are basically Omegas with Alpha characteristics. They are just as aggressive as Alphas and often fight with one another. As children, Sigmas and Alphas do typically fight with one another, but due to Sigmas being biological Omegas, they're still weaker. Sigmas often tease their Omega friends about their nesting habits, as Sigmas do not nest much outside of heat and pregnancy.
Ω: Omegas are the lowest in ranking in a group and are a rare breed where pregnancy is possible for these males. Male Omegas are self-lubricating (produce slick) and have the ability to become pregnant. On one hand, omegas are revered because an alpha individual is born out of an omega, although there are rare cases when a Beta and Omega pairing produce and Alpha child. Paired Alphas may be jealous and possessive of their mate, while the Omega may become submissive. Omegas and Alphas may go into heat/rut and need to have sex; this may be the only time Omegas are fertile. Because of an Omegas heat and the unable to restrain themselves when this time occurs, they are seen as, and feel, inferior. Therefore, they are largely not given high positions by their employers and tend to have a hard time keeping a job.

About the Gender Examination: It is an obligation of the people placed by the government to undergo a blood test to determine if they are an Alpha, Delta, Epsilon, Beta, Theta, Gamma, Iota, Sigma or Omega. They are required to provide their medical documents as they progress through their school years and into the work world.
Ω Heat: A heat is the time the Omega is most fertile and ready to mate. Some choose to have partners to help during their heats, others hide in their nests without a mate until their heat is over. During their heat, Omegas produce a sickly sweet scent to draw Alphas to mate them, whether the Omega wants to or not. This scent can either be the Omega's amplified natural scent, or it can be the self-lubricant they produced. It's extremely important that if the Omega is unmated, that they have some form of protection during their heat since they are protect themselves due to their hormone imbalance. Some buildings have heat rooms for this particular situation, where the Omega is protected and safe from outside forces. Heats can be very unpredictable, especially in the adolescent years, as they can be irregular or if the Omega is a late bloomer. Sometimes Omegas can be forced into heat be the pheromones of Alphas or just go into heat through their natural cycle. Omegas are typically under a significant amount of emotional and physical stress during their heat.
Nests: Most Omegas will build a nest in a secure room to provide comfort for themselves and their Alpha partner. This nest is made up of all soft items that they own. ranging from their clothes to their bedding. If they have an Alpha they trust, they'll use their clothing in the nest too. A nest where the omega feels more comfortable since they're fragile creatures, and most Alphas will respect it as the Omega's space. If their nest is invaded, they'll most likely develop trust issues. It's their Alpha's job to protect the nest, since it's essentially the Omega's territory.
Slick: Slick is the substance secreted by Omegas when their in heat. It is a very sweet smelling fluid that is semi-translucent. When tasted, it is very sweet. Slick is basically a form of self-lubrication for Omegas.
α Rut: Alphas experience ruts the same way the omegas experience heats, but instead of submitting, they feel the need to dominate. If they don't have a partner, they'll do the same thing an omega does; lock themselves in their rooms until their rut is over. However, Alphas in ruts are much more dangerous than usual. If they feel threatened or smell another Alphas scent, they'll feel the urge to attack. If their is an Omega nearby, they may feel the need to protect them from harm, even if there is none. Other Alohas may instinctively try to mate with the Omega, whether forcefully or not.
Knot: This is found in Alphas and is the primary way to mate with Omegas. The knot is essentially a bundle of muscles that expands/inflates when the Alpha is about to climax. The knot also ties them and their mate for a short or a long time until it goes down enough to be removed. Removal upon the knot already being tied to their partner is very painful and dangerous.
Scents: When in non-sexual situations, Omegas and Betas scents tend to be calming, Omega scents almost as a sedative, and Betas scents in a more passive manner. Alphas can infuse their scent with command that weakly compels Omegas, and, to lesser extent, Betas, to obey them. This is significantly more effective when used upon distressed Omegas or Omegas in or nearing their heat; when applied to other Alphas, it generally invokes hostility, sometimes leading to violence.
Mating: When a mating bite occurs, the Omega's bonding land, which is located on the nape of their neck, releases a spike of Oxytocin into the Omega's blood, triggering release of Vasopressin in the Alpha. Omegas will also produce a chemical compound in the presence of other Alphas when pair-bonded, warning the other Alphas off and making then smell "claimed".
Presence of the Alpha during the Omega's heat is required to maintain a mating bond; if the Alpha is absent and the Omega suffers an unsuppressed heat, with or without another partner, the pheromonal bond will fade away and the Omega will no longer smell claimed. Other Alphas will likely make advances.
Scenting: Pheromones are produced mainly by scent glands o the wrist, neck, cheeks and for Omegas, genitals. In claiming a mate, Alphas will generally rub their face and hands on the face and neck of their chosen Omega, as an additional warning to other Alphas that this Omega is claimed. Omegas scent mark their Alphas as well, though this tends to be more subtle; usually the accomplish this through less specific physical contact, such as hugging or cuddling.
However, not all scent marking is necessarily sexual. Families and good friends tend to scent mark each other as well, but as the pheromone production incited by the presence of family and platonic friends is entirely different from that incited by the presence of a potential or claimed mate, the scent transferred differs greatly from that transferred by scent marking from a mate.
Pairs: A connection stronger than that of a family, married couples and lovers, in which only alpha and omega are able to develop and bonded with. During heat, an alpha bites the nape of an omega, completing the bod. This causes the omega to only have the capabilities of having sex with their paired alpha. The omega is also not capable of emitting their pheromones to anyone other than their pair.
The Soul Bound:
These are couples who are bound together by their souls, regardless of their opinions. Even if they dislike each other, they will find themselves unable to part.
The Alpha will find themselves unable to react physically to anyone other than their soul-bonded partner.
Only Omegas who experience their first heat and Alphas are able to experience this phenomenon.
However, meeting one's soul bond is extremely rare, and in most cases, beings finish their lives without meeting their soul-bonded partner.
Pregnancy: Omega, Iota, Sigma, Delta females, Epsilon females, Beta females, Zeta females, Theta females, Gamma females, and occasionally Alpha females can become pregnant. Pregnancy generally lasts close to 40 weeks. In Alpha-Omega pairs, multiple births are significantly more common.
Hostility: When pregnant, Omegas self-isolate and become very hostile toward everyone but close family and their mate. If approached by a stranger, they will sometimes attack, and if they are in the presence of their mate they will generally cling to and hide behind them, snarling at the potential threat.
Alphas also become very protective of pregnant Omegas whom they know, especially their mates, and also become hostile toward strangers and anyone who approaches too quickly or comes too close.
This is a leading cause of violence among Alphas and Omegas, as mated pairs will generally attack together, though the Omega usually lets Alpha do the majority of the fighting. This is a residual instinct from when Alphas who desired an Omega who was already mated would sometimes wait for the Omega to give birth and then kill the baby, claiming the Omega for their own. The most violent of Alphas would then proceed to eat the child.
This is now extremely rare and highly illegal, but the protective instinct is preserved. Because of this, Omegas with children whose Alpha has died almost never re-mates until the child is an adult, if at all, despite the fact that the undeniable evidence of their fertility makes then highly desirable. They will, however, sometimes form romantic or sexual unions with Betas or other Omegas.
Alpha Females: Alpha females have narrow hips than Beta females and Omegas (Omega females tend to have very wide hips), so they are more likely to require a Cesarean Section than Beta and Omega females are. In fact. more than 50% of Alpha female births are by C-Sections.
Omega Males: Omega male hips tend to be slightly narrower than Beta females, but during pregnancy the pelvic opening widens as the ligaments of the sacroiliac joint loosen significantly, much more than for Beta or Omega females. Male Omegas keep the wider hips after their first pregnancy.
Lactation: Male Omegas do lactate, but only during and shortly after pregnancy. Their breasts do not remain enlarged as females' do, and are generally small even when lactation occurs. Beta and Omega females lactate as well, and retain the fatty tissue in their breasts. Alpha females never lactate; their breasts are composed entirely of fatty tissue, containing no actual milk-producing glandular tissue, and are generally small, comparable to the size of Omega males' breasts during late pregnancy; most female Alphas and pregnant male Omegas have AA or A-cup breasts. Omega females have larger breasts, tending toward C to DD-cups. Beta females are average at B or C-cups.
Pheromone Suppressant: Medication used to suppress both an Omega's pheromones and their heat. Alphas also have medication for their ruts.
Birth Control Pills: For the use of avoiding pregnancy.
