A Manuel: The Art of Spamming

Well I might as well make a Wattpad-friendly guide for anyone who wants to spam someone! Yeah StreetRacer-Sam this one is for you! (Do excuse my late response when compiling these tips)

This can also apply to anyone else who wants to get my advice on spamming and/or are curious regarding my spamming methods.

Intro

The art of spamming. It is a long and dangerous road for one to take.

Is it easy? There are no shortcuts here.

You must endure many challenges. It can be from lasting long enough to spam. Sometimes it can be from others launching their own attacks to counter yours. Other occasions it can be not knowing what to do from lack of any activity. Time, motivation, and inspiration are equal factors here.

You can either accept this and take the path, or evade it and watch the other people pass by it. The choice is yours, young Padawan.

TIP #1: Endurance

So if you haven't backed out yet, then great! Actually, this is my first tip: endurance. Whether it's spamming someone's wall or increasing the amount of comments on someone's book, you'll need to mentally be ready on how much time you'll use up.

And how does someone such as myself does it, you may ask?

For one, you must put in the time. Other times you're going to have to make the most of it. Either way, you definitely need the space to demonstrate such dedication.

If you're on mobile, you won't really tire out as much as on a laptop or computer. Your fingers are practically used to texting fast from daily usage, so enduring might not be a big factor. Anyone else who doesn't have so much time to text, just practice. Sometimes your fingers will get sore, but that's okay.

Other times it could be from other chores you have to do, bathroom breaks, and even feeding yourself. That's okay for it to happen, but don't let that kill your spamming momentum.

TIP #2: Objective

Everything has a purpose, and spamming is not an exception (despite the shenanigans that may come your way). There are three questions I usually ask myself before I even begin to spam someone.

a) Who and where shall I spam?

The who part of the question is the simplest one to answer: which author will be your client? As for the where part, it depends. The spam can take place in said person's PM list, their wall, or any book they have (whether an actual one, graphic book, or random book).

b) What type of spam shall it be?

This is where things get a little complicated. Sure, you can just think, but Cabby the whole point of spamming is just to say random things and blow up people's notifications, right? Nein. Spamming is an art, which means it's just as complicated and means more beyond the surface.

There are different ways to spam. Yes, it could be just for a sense of shenanigans to when you're bored. However, there are others that provoke a certain reaction from the Wattpaders.

When I typically spam in fanfiction books, I do it to show my appreciation for the author. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that what they're writing appeals to me and is a project worth waiting for. I also hope that they know that they do have loyal readers that pay attention to those subtle puns or any sentiments caused by the plot or characters. So in other words, I literally speak my mind in those times: whatever reaction I have, I type and presto! At first it's hard and could take a while, but eventually you get into the rhythm of saying your reaction. So yes, express the distress or happiness at every paragraph, if possible. The result? 50+ notifications :)

However I can't just explain to you every type of purpose out there. You just have to find yours (as long as it's not anything with bullying or anything considered offensive). So basically next time before you spam someone, think why you do it. But of course, always remember to bring a laugh out of them!

c) What am I trying to accomplish?

Sometimes that's the hardest question. As most people assume that spamming is a flippant art, they don't take the time to see the underlying purpose behind it.

What many of you might not right away realize is that I spam so that the authors on the other side of the screen can forget their troubles and feel appreciated, even if the people around them don't appreciate them. Because I might not know many stories behind the author, but everyone at least has someone that disapproves what they're doing. Well I'm here to prove whomever that person is in your life wrong. Wattpad is worth your time, and I'll certainly let you know through vast comments! :)

But seriously, ask yourself what is the point of all of this. Sure, shenanigans is a word I'll welcome, but everything has to go beyond the randomness.

You could spam to make friends. Promote a book/something you like. Get some advice or recommendations of books. The reasons are endless, but make sure to find one that is yours.

TIP #3: Activity

Let's be frank here. One thing is to spam someone with 100+ notifications in a random day, but another is to consistently be spamming people 50+ notifications. The difference? One occasion will be a moment; the other can grant you access to a whole new experience on Wattpad.

I can already hear some of the reactions. But Cabby, what if I have things to attend to like school or work? Or it can even be this: you don't understand, I don't always have time to be on Wattpad. Maybe it could even be something like, but Cabby there's hardly any activity on Wattpad today. What to do? There are other cases, but let's not talk about excuses (although I am a master at that too).

For one, consistency can be hard. Let aside personal issues, when you do have time on Wattpad, nothing happens. There are some days when your average notifications can be at 5. So when you do have a purpose to spam someone with comments, but have already made yourself heard in their books, what do you do?

It's especially harder for spammers trying to make a name for themselves. They have the dedication or time needed to be a serious one, but the lack of activity throws them off-pace, or even makes them give up spamming for a while. The lack of experience to deal with those situations, however, is their downfall. Thankfully you guys have the good old Spamming Queen here to save you from this odious pitfall.

ONE: Go search for other books to read! You know those books archived in your library? Go ahead and read them (obviously spam them with comments and votes)! Or how about a book you were reading silently went on hiatus? Go spam that to your heart's content!

TWO: Pick up my hobby! Sometimes when I want to find a new victim I check out the #pokemon tag to see what other books are out there in the community. Who knows? You might find something you like!

THREE: Random books! Trust me, if there's anything that interests people more than your works, it's your random books. Make your own and just post shenanigans on there! People would definitely check it out if you're talking about your interests or even recommending something. It could even be posting random videos about something you saw on YouTube!

FOUR: Challenges! If there's a place where you can lure people into getting spammed, challenges are the right way to do this! You can tag people you want to know, tag the people you already know, or just tag people because you can! This can be because you were tagged and not sure to do this, or this is one you came up with! Creating a challenge is another topic that I promise to discuss later on! (;

So basically, don't let the Wattpad trend get the better of you! The lack of activity around the community you're in should not deter you from what you can do. Trust me, as long as you find something to progress your spamming prowess, you should be able to make a name for yourself!

TIP #4: Conversations

Probably one of the most pivotal things in spamming is communication. Specifically, having conversations with all kinds of people that you really wouldn't get to know in your typical environment. But Cabby what if I'm an introvert and aren't comfortable with talking to a stranger? Well I am too. Surprised? However, that awkwardness is something that can easily be overcomed with friendly topics that you and the other Wattpader can bond over.

To be clear it happens because sometimes the person your spamming becomes curious enough to want to know you who are. One day you could be ready to spam and then you see a random PM from one of your victims *cough* Kyle (Kyke)*cough* which should shock you. However, when you think about it, people in the Pokémon community have a common ground: the same franchise that brought us to this community. Well if you want to talk about something else there's always their biographies! Either that, or don't hesitate to ask them questions! Who knows? That's how you make yourselves known to at least your daily clients of your spamming prowess. (And they might even tell you that they like your comments)

Other times conversations can start with something you commented on their books. These are pretty much open-ended conversations as other people can feel free to jump in. Be warned that the topic will probably get random, but as long as you have fun while doing so, things should be okay! And again, who knows? That's exactly how you befriend people!

I do discourage the fact when you don't take an opportunity to talk to a Wattpader. There are seriously amazing people here, and it would be shame you didn't know that because of shyness. Trust me, I'm sure there's someone out there who will find you just as interesting as them!

And if conversations don't find you, you can always send a PM to someone! The beauty of spamming after all is the bonds forged once your spamming is done. There's even their wall that you can shout a quick message, just in case you want to be cautious! But overall, be prepared to meet people you would've never imagined to meet before Wattpad!

TIP #5: Challenges

So now here's my final tip before the remaining readers quit on me or fall asleep reading this. So yes, the long awaited advice on how to create a challenge.

Actually, making one isn't the hardest part. Usually, people make challenges to follow a questionnaire system of some sorts. For instance, you tag people from 5-10 questions and they have to answer them while tagging someone else.

Others can have a creative twist to it. It can be something like answer the question using only gifs and pictures, while others have a word limit.

Some challenges can even be from simple prompts to a monologue. It can even be like a contest of some sorts (like an art one) or a challenge that requires something other than the typical questions. Really, as long as you use your creativeness and powers to spam, you should be good to go!

Ah, but don't forget to tag people and make sure the challenge goes around! It really wouldn't hurt to tag people that you're unfamiliar with!

And if you want to make one but don't have the inspiration, there's always things like Pinterest where you can find plenty of ideas to create your challenge! If not, take any inspiration from any recent holidays or seasons going on!

Conclusion

With that, this ends my quick tips for spammers. Also, this is the part where any of you can ask any questions you still may have regarding the life of a spammer. Until then, folks!
