You Bet

Ayanami x Reader

(B/V/Y/N) = Boy's version of your name

You clutched your paperwork closely to your chest, almost slamming into the wall because of all the stress you had been under. Knowing that you were actually a female in the military would get you into deep trouble, and you didn't want that to happen. All your life, you were curious about the benefits of being in the military. That was all. Not the glory, not the hard work that goes into the training and the military as a whole, and definitely not the idea of being surrounded by males. So when you turned another corner and looked up, you almost froze in your spot. A whole group of boys walked in your direction. Knowing well that you had to put up a good front to get past these group of bullies, you steeled your emotions and took long confident strides while clutching the paperwork even closer to your chest. When the group was a few feet in front of you, one of them called out to you. "Hey (B/V/Y/N), where're you going? And in a hurry at that." A smirk was plastered on his face, while members of the group started to notice you. Grins adorned their faces as they started to surround you. You cursed yourself for not paying enough attention to your surroundings, leading to them surrounding you.

"(B/V/Y/N)... Hiromi is asking you a question you dip shit." A boy snarled as he reached for you. Everyone else visibly flinched, knowing that teasing would be okay towards you, but actions, you would retaliate. The male grabbed onto your arm and caused you to drop your paperwork. Everyone shifted back, careful not to step on each other. You calmly looked over at the male and glared at him. All he did was smirk. He moved another hand to grab your face, at that was when you reacted. Raising your free hand, you grabbed onto his moving arm, twisted your arm to firmly grip onto the arm he had grabbed you with, and swiftly kicked his legs out from under him. You then pinned him down with both his arms behind his back, resting your weight on his back to hold him down. He coughed from the shock and the way his body was slammed into the ground that was under him.

You looked up at everyone else and glared. Everyone else took another step back. "Dude... You crazy?" One of the group members whispered slowly to the male that was pinned down. All you did was look at the paperwork that was sprawled all over the floor. You sighed and grabbed the male by the collar and pulled him up. You turned him to face you, and you could see the confusion, fear and every other emotion in his eyes. You snarled and pushed him away from you, causing him to flail his arms out while his body weight was tossed forward. You reached your hand up to your head to feel for your hat that held all your hair. You gasped when you didn't feel it on your head, and frantically started looking around for it. When you saw it on the floor in front of one of the males in the group, you knew you were screwed.

"A... Girl? Wow. Ishida just got beat by a girl..." One of the members you knew as Hibachi started laughing after his statement. Once everyone had registered his sentence, they started laughing too. You slowly picked up you paperwork and pulled down your gloves once the paperwork was safely in the corner of the hallway, under the weight of your hat. You walked back to the center of the ring of boys and placed your hands in your pockets, staring at all of them with no emotion. Only when the weight of Hibachi's words dawn on all of them did every member stop laughing and stare at you. "Wait... A... Girl... In the military? Who let her in? What is she doing here, she's been living with all of us for how long? And we didn't notice?" The group started to murmur within themselves. This was when you pulled both your hands from your pockets and brought out a rubber band, tying up your hair.

Boys lunged at you out of confusion while others ran to get a higher ranking officer to deal with the situation. You jabbed, kicked and knocked out all those who lunged at you, and sighed when most just ran away from you. You walked over to the paperwork, walked off to hand it in as your final piece of work for the military. You left it at the door of one of the student's doors for them to deliver and walked back into the open, with your hat lazily placed on your head to provide nothing but shade from the rays that shone through the glass window, your hair down and flowing in your wake. Hours passed, and more and more people knew of your actual gender, but none of the higher-ups came to confront you. 'Strange... Normally in the first ten minutes of rumours going around, the higher-ups would have already taken action. Now that its been hours, what ever might be hold up?' You got up from your place on a railing that gave you the view of the whole building and walked around to hasten your expulsion up.

Roaming around the halls, no one was seen in the hallways. You looked everywhere, and not one soul was to be found in the open. You placed a finger to your cheek and rested the weight of your head on it while you thought off the places you had not gone too. You strolled along the hallways and finally thought back to the days that you had spent in the military. Being a girl wasn't easy, especially when you were in a 'no girls' zone. You constantly kept up with the boys, discretely did the necessities with boys lurking everywhere, and even had to cut off all emotions so as to not give away your secret. This made you grow fond of the military and not just the benefits. You sighed as you came to a dead end and turned to continue roaming around aimlessly. Just as you turned, you stopped and jumped back. And thank god you did.

Standing before you was the chief of staff Ayanami, staring down at your female form. Shamelessly, you nodded towards him to acknowledge his presence and started to walk off. You had barely walked past him when you were stopped by his outstretched gloved hands. Knowing full well what he was, you arched your back forward to avoid touching his hand, and jumped back. When you did, too much force was added causing you to do a mid-air flip. You cursed yourself, and extended your arms to help you get back to your feet. Touching the ground, you landed on your feet while skidding back a few. But when you raised your head from looking down at the floor from your crouched form, you saw no sign of the male.

You rapidly turned your head from side to side while slowly getting up, and finally heaved a sigh when he was not in sight. You then walked off to attract the attention of another higher up that might want to kick you out. Hours piled up, eventually you gave up and went back to a clearing. You then looked up at the building, spotting students cowering in a corner. Puzzled and curious, you watched. One by one they got knocked out by a man in sunglasses. That was the most you could make out before he disappeared. Sighing, you walked farther from the building. You looked up at the sun, only to be interrupted by a student. You grunted in annoyance while the male spoke with disgust. "(B/V/Y/N), if that's even your name... The chief of staff wants to meet you. You better get up there fast he's impatient." You rolled your eyes and knocked the male out as you walked past him.

You walked to the door and froze. This was what you had prepared yourself for, and you were going to exit the military with your pride, dignity and composure. You took a few deep breaths before opening the door. Soldiers lined the walkway, but a few stood out. Those few stood behind the chief of staff who was looking at you rather strangely. Instead of greeting the soldiers that lined the walkway, which also happened to be people for higher ranking that you were, and walked straight up to the chief of staff's desk. You bowed, took off your hat and turned to walk away. A man in sunglasses with black hair and with a stick protruding out of his mouth stopped you as you took a step. "Come on don't leave just yet. Aya-tan hasn't even addressed you yet.~" His tone ticked you off a little as you turned back to see a wide smile plastered on his face, totally not matching the black coloured things that covered his entire body.

You sighed and turned back to give a curt nod, signalling that you were listening. A grin split on the man's face as he went back to his post behind the chief of staff a few murmurs could be heard from behind you at your attitude. The chief of staff waved his hand, dismissing everyone else from the room other than you and the people behind his seat. As the people shuffled out, he interlocked his hands together, rested his elbows on his desk and rested his chin on his hands. Sweat trickled down your forehead at the atmosphere in the room. Fear had a tight grip on you even as you slowly tensed all your muscles. "From today onwards, you'll be joining the black hawks." Every muscle in your body relaxed as your mind slowly tried to comprehend the words that came out of his mouth. You? Join? Black hawks? He must be joking. The moment you finally grasped the situation, you realised that the man in sunglasses was hugging you and cheering, while the others were protesting in their own way. Well, other than the one that looked like a kid and the one carrying him or her.

You finally came to your senses and spoke up. "Hold up... How did this happen and why?" You had pushed the man in sunglasses away and was currently staring at the chief of staff. Everyone was staring at you in awe or in disgust you could not discern. The chief of staff waved his hand, asking everyone but you to leave. Some protested but the man in sunglasses pushed everyone out. You crossed your arms over your chest and looked at the person in front who looked unfazed through the events that had happened. He leaned back and you placed your hands at your sides. He then closed his eyes while you grew a little impatient. He finally spoke up after a long moment of silence.

"Then answer this question: Why did you reveal your identity? You were doing well, almost making it to be my secretary. So why?" Suddenly, your hat that was on his desk was the most interesting thing in the world. 'Why did I do that?' You never thought about it throughout the day. You could have knocked the males out and pretended that they where hallucinating. You heard his chair move and soon he was in front of you. "In any case, I'm going to take half of your heart." Seeing as you did not have a choice in the matter, you slumped your shoulders and closed your eyes. At that moment you blacked out.

You cursed as the memory faded. Damn Ayanami and his way with words. You were sure that was the exact moment you had fallen for the chief of staff. You sighed and smacked a palm on your forehead, gaining the attention of Hyuuga who looked at you quizzically. "(Y/N), you okay? Don't want you fainting on us on the mission." You rubbed your fingers against your temple and waved your other hand as your hair hung in your face. Understanding, Hyuuga left you alone and went to find Konatsu. 'This sucks...' You hit yourself on your head a little before getting up from the seat in the ship. Looking at the landscape in front of you, you shuffled through your pocket to find the picture of your target. You pulled the piece of paper out and examined the person.

You walked to the hawkzile that was in the back and got on. You opened the hatch and launched the hawkzile.

What in the world do you think you are doing?

What was left of your heart skipped a beat and caused you to sink a little in altitude. You then stabilised the hawkzile before concentrating on where you were going. You then sighed again and nearly smacked yourself on the head. '(Y/N)... You sigh too much.' You then started to descend as you neared your destination.

I know where the target is. That is all I'm saying.

With that, you parked your hawkzile in the forest that was near the buildings, and slipped in and out of the shadows. Just when you were about to confront the target who had just left a building, a weight pulled you down from the tree you were perched in to see better. You yelped and fell from the tree, causing you to hiss in pain with your eyes closed tightly to try and bear the pain. "Ah... Dang I hurt (Y/N)-chan..." The notorious Hyuuga whined as you rubbed your sore body.

Who the freak hurt (Y/N)?

Everyone froze, so you assumed you were not the only one hearing Ayanami at this point in time. Hyuuga shook in his boots as he hid behind you, earning another hiss. Konatsu, who had come with Hyuuga, looked over at the Major and frantically tried to remove him from you as you almost screamed in pain. "You freaking ass Hyuuga! Damn my whole body aches now..." You whined as you got up from the floor slowly. Apparently Ayanami heard what you had said and threatened Hyuuga that when he went back he was gonna get punished. Hyuuga froze while you rubbed your temple.

Everyone is to abort the mission and return immediately.

You rushed to the hawkzile and bore with the pain as you sat down and flew off. With you being alone in the air, you slowly let a blush rise to your cheeks.

If you heard that... That means you heard everything else I said and thought... Right?

You got no response other than a laugh on the other side of the connection. Only after some time after your blush had darkened did he reply.

You Bet.
