Translations

Bobby found the other two in his kitchen. They seemed to be in a discussion about the things Cas recognised. Announcing himself with a little cough, he crossed his arms. "Okay boys, tell me what's going on?" Before the angel could start to tell what he found out, Sam blurred it out. "It's Aramaic!" Crunching his brows he thought about it. Aramaic? If he remembered correctly some of the symbols could match but not completely. He had to do more research on it, this was on of the dead languages he wasn't quite fluent. "Mhh, you could be right. But there is more?"

Slowly Castiel nods. "Yes, I cant translate it there are definitely some Aramaic characters but not all of them. It's a complicated spell. It has different characters of different languages, interwoven to make it more powerful. It is as if it is deliberately laced with sacred words, not only to take away his powers, but also to purify him every time his infernal presence is touched. Bound like this he is nearly human and if not removed I don't know what long-lasting consequences it may have."

An oppressive silence descended over the room. Only the ticking of the clock could be heard. Then Crowley came through the door and all eyes settled on him. He seemed to have regained his composure. If the old hunter didn't know how unwell the demon had been just minutes ago, it would never have occurred to him. Only his slightly reddened eyes testified to his breakdown.

Eying everyone wary he sat down on the kitchen table. "So what's the diagnosis feathers? Come on spit it out!" No one answered. Even Castiel remained silent. He wasn't the best with interpersonal conversations and the demon wasn't someone he would usually be prissy with, but the pregnant silence in the room indicated him to keep his mouth shut.

When no one answered the king of hell lost his temper for a moment. "Oh come on! I'm the king of hell and not some little girl! We tried to kill each other every second day! Now is not the time to play coy!"

Sighting Bobby took a heart and stepped forward. "Well... It seems that the seal they put on you is more grave than assumed. And even the angel can't do anything about it. But at least we have a lead now. We know that it's partly Aramaic and with some time I'm sure that I can figure out the other languages that were used..."

With a loud bang Crowleys hand slammed on the table. His features painted in anger. "So this was all for nothing?!" he hollered.
Brushing the older hunter over his mouth before he could respond, he continued in a seemingly calm manner.
"Oh don't you come with bullshit like a starting point, translations and needing time or something! We haven't found anything in the last weeks, why now?! It's a waste of time!"

For an outsider the king of hell seemed angry but calm, but the older hunter could clearly see the panic, pain and hopelessness in his eyes beyond his burning fire. He could understand his behaviour. He had fought his way to the top and for that he was not allowed to show any weakness and now? Here he was among his part-time enemies, defenceless and completely at their mercy. Crowley just tried to feel at least somewhat in control of the situation.

But either way Bobby wouldn't let him snap at one of his boys or give up. He could talk back at him, he could throw a fit but at the end of the day he wouldn't let him lose hope. He had carved out too much of a place in his heart for that. The older hunter was well aware that he would do everything for the demon, like he would sacrifice everything for his boys. He had promised him to solve the problem and there was nothing to prevent him from doing so.

After the discussion Crowley retreated to his chamber and Bobby was left alone with the angel and his adoptive son. They still had a lot of questions and he tried to answer most of them. In the end Sam looked more pleased than before. He had accepted the fact before but only now he seemed content with the situation. What was ... weird. Bobby had assumed more of a cursing, holy water or even kidnapping case but the younger Winchester seemed truly happy for him. Well, there was always the older Winchester. Knowing Deans temper, he would likely meet his expectations. But this was a problem for another time.

They discussed the king of hells case for another hour before Castiel had to leave and the older hunter send Sam away. It was already late in the evening, he had to get his thoughts in order and he preferred to work alone anyway. The demon didn't show up again, even after the boys left. So it was only him and his books the hole night like always. Bobby quickly found himself in his usual routine and scoured book after book for everything he could find on Aramaic and related languages.

It wasn't until the third day after Sam and Castiels visit, that he found another lead. Excited he scribbled the information on a sheet of paper. Next to it was the sketch of the sigyl, scanning the sign further he continued to pick out symbols. Castiel had been right! It were only two characters who were classic Aramaic but that was only because others were written in a specific dialect. It was Palmyrene Aramaic! A dialect that was mostly used only in Palmyra and of which only a few inscriptions have been preserved. On closer inspection, he finally noticed the similarity to typical Aramaic.

Assuming that they must have used ancient Arabic languages, he dropped everything and rushed to the telephone. He knew all the numbers by heart, his fingers flew over the keys as he dialled the number of an old friend, he was sure had access to the relevant documents he needed.
