8: To Get So Lost That No One Could Ever Find Me
In Y/n's mind, a battle was going on and it felt as if she was losing.
Everything that happened with Kenjii hit her hard. Especially with the way he looked like her.
Like he didn't even know who she was anymore.
Kenjii was all she ever had in the world and with that being a possible person she had just lost, she didn't even want to continue.
All they ever had was each other. The happiest day of her life was the day she met the brunet.
Meeting in a grocery store, it was more like a corner shop.
Y/n's parents were both sent to jail for the murder of multiple people.
The media called them the modern Bonnie and Clyde.
She ran away before social services came to put her in an orphanage.
She took her mother's purse and fathers wallet before sprinting down the street, apologizing quickly to the people she bumped into.
No one questioned why a thirteen-year-old was running like if she was being chased after by a murder or some sort of predator.
She ran and ran till her legs eventually gave out. She panted, desperately awaiting the oxygen to invade her system
Her eyes locked to a corner shop; the young girl decided on buying a drink.
When she pushed the glass door open, the sweet but annoying sound of a bell rang above her.
There was no one in the store. Heading to fridges to the back, she opened one and tiptoed for a juice box.
Once in her grasp she landed flat on her feet with a huff and gently closed the fridge door.
When heading to the cashier, she couldn't help but notice a boy her age
Brown hair, easy expression, beautiful eyes and a bit tall for his age. If she had a normal life or even a place to sleep, she'd become friends with him, but she knew she'd never see that boy again
As she was just about to avert her eyes, Y/n saw him pocket a couple items off the shelf.
She obviously didn't know what to do but she did know he was too young to get into this sort of trouble.
Young Y/n approached the boy and tapped his shoulder, she felt him jump and he immediately stiffened
"I don't think you should do that." She whispered to him.
He laughed nervously and turned to the girl, "What..uh, what are you talking about?"
Y/n took the bag off her back and searched for her mother's purse, when she found the red velvet like item, she opened it.
The girl took out fifty pounds and handed it to him, "I hope that helps. You can get in big trouble if you steal."
With a warm smile, she turned away and walked to the cashier and paid for her juice.
She exited the store, the bell ringing once more as she did so and began walking to God knows where.
"Wait!"
She stopped immediately and looked over her shoulder to see the boy running up to meet her.
"Um, hey." He said, "I didn't get to say thank you."
Y/n gave a nod, "It's no problem," she smiled, "What's your name?"
"Kenjii Macher. You?"
"Y/n L/n."
"Nice to meet you." He replied, "Heading back to your parents?"
Y/n smile slowly faded and shook her head, "No. They got arrested today, actually." She brought her smile back up which Kenjii obviously saw as fake.
"I'm sorry." Kenjii said. The two said nothing for a good couple second when he added, "Mine are dead."
"Oh." Was all she mustered up to say, "I'm sorry."
The young brunet laughed softly and waved her off, "It's okay."
"If your parents are away, where were you planning on going?" He asked.
Young Y/n shrugged, "I have nowhere to go."
She averted her eyes off him in embarrassment when she felt his hand on her shoulder.
"Wanna live with me?" He smiled with his head slightly tilted, "I live in a container that my parents had. My dad would stay there after they fought."
Kenjii let out a breathy laugh before continuing, "It gets lonely sometimes."
Y/n was silent, but she didn't know why she was even hesitating. It's not like she had anywhere else to stay.
It was either there or the streets.
Y/n nodded, "Are you sure it's okay if I-?"
"Totally." Kenjii reassured with a firm nod, "It's not far from here actually."
The two walked to the container with Kenjii in the lead. The two took the time to get to know each other more.
They mostly had the same thing interests and it seemed like they could never run out of topics to talk about.
"Do you always steal to get by?"
The male's head jerked back at the sudden question, "Kinda."
"I don't think you should." Said Y/n, he looked at her as she continued, "We'll figure something out."
Kenjii for the first time in months, genuinely smiled.
With the money she had from her parents lasted them a while.
Y/n was able to get a job and Kenjii opened the bar at the age of 16. With their new source of income and by saving it up they were able to move out of the container and live their own lives.
"You couldn't have picked the worst possible place to open this bar, Kenjii."
She didn't want to be a downer but unless someone tells a person about this place, one would never know.
It was in an alleyway so she found it hard to believe anyone can see it.
The sixteen-year-old male huffed and crossed his arms, "It was the cheaper option, okay? Besides there's my first customer."
The two looked to the door and then more poured in. Y/n raised a brow at this
"They look a bit scary; don't you think?"
Before Kenjii could speak, a couple people walked to the counter and started ordering. Kenjii without hesitating was able to get them all their drinks.
"Damn you're on roll." She laughed
Y/n saw them with guns and her eyes widen, she was about to get Kenjii and drag him out of there when he spoke, "They're mercenaries, I just spoke to some of them. Apparently, they hung out here when I bought it"
"But-"
"It's okay, Y/n" he slung an arm around her shoulder, "It's okay. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't let them hurt you."
Kenjii went to speak with some of the men who seemed to actually like Kenjii. Y/n drummed her fingers the edge of the counter when man sat on the stool behind the counter and looked at her
"Ma'am?"
"Yes?" The h/c haired girl responded politely.
"Ma'am?"
With furrowed brows she answered again, "Can I help you?"
"Hello? Ma'am?"
In snapping out of it by shaking her head, she stepped into reality.
Y/n was currently in a corner store buying some snacks so she could sulk in her new apartment. She pulled out her wallet and handed him a couple US dollars, telling him to keep the change with an apologetic smile.
When she received her things, Y/n headed out but before she did her eyes spotted a rack with the New York times
At the bottom had yesterdays but the top half had the current day.
She couldn't help but see the front page. Only in times when something happened really badly somewhere in the world, the topic would be on the front page instead of the international section.
The took the paper off the rack and looked at the heading.
'Robbery in Australia leaves the world in shock'
As she read, her hands gripped the sides of the pages harshly.
New person huh? Better than me?
I beg to fucking differ.
