17: Foolish People Are A Pain For Us Detectives

Y/n sat in a swivel chair, spinning in circles right beside the detective who crouched on the floor.

He hooked up his microphone and the noise of him tapping the keys on the keyboard filled the air.

"L." The girl whined as she stopped spinning, getting off the chair which was a terrible idea as she wobbled.

The male took a cushion from the sofa near him without taking his eyes off the screen and set it on the floor right before Y/n would fall.

She landed comfortably on the soft cushion and folded her arms.

"When is the meeting going to start?" Y/n asked as she gathered her composure then crouching on the floor like the detective.

"We are to await his call." The ravenette merely said, "If you would like I can carry on with the meeting whilst you go to sleep."

Y/n had been working on cases with L even beyond her special field; breaking and entering along with theft.

He had no idea why she did, her input rarely helped but he wouldn't lie and say that he didn't enjoy the time spent with her; he appreciated it.

"Of course not!" Y/n huffed, "What kind of partner would I be?"

Without his knowledge, a tiny smile made its presence of his face.

Y/n in turned grinned at the sight and averted her eyes to the computer screen as to not come off as creepy.

With a soft tone of voice, she said "You should smile more."

The alluring and sweet tone he fell in love with when he was chasing her, the tone she used in teasing him all the time.

He looked to her as the words escaped her lips. Then a cell icon appeared on the monitor, signaling that they were receiving a call.

Y/n took the mouse and clicked on accept. The chief of police of England popped up in no time.

"Greetings to you L." He started, "You as well, Ghost."

"Greetings to you as well, sir." Y/n responded formally "Now, let's get down to business. Shall we?" The girl grinned.

"Yes, of course." He cleared his throat before reading off a piece of paper, "There was a robbery in a local bank in Winchester. Money from deposit boxes were stolen which we calculated to be approximately 40,000 pounds."

"This is exciting." Y/n whispered to L, then nudged him at his side slightly.

The female cleared her throat, "What's your entry point and size of damage." She asked the chief.

"Thief seemed to have broken the window to get in, picked the lock to the door the deposit boxes were in. Bobby pins were found on the floor." He looked up from his paper and stared into the camera, " We have no leads on possible suspects."

With a slight push on the thin rimmed glasses on his face more up on the bridge of his nose, he asked, "Your thoughts, detectives?"

L was based on evidence which was not provided, and this case sounded like a joke. The detective would have to do his own investigation, get his own evidence and do his own research.

But that was not needed.

"First off chief, who robs a bank by breaking the window; taking their time to pick the locks then head on out? Certainly, they would have gotten caught because of the noise."

She spoke as if it was quite obvious with a hint of excitement, "Second, Bank locks are magnum locks meaning that no one can enter without a key, those fuckers can't be picked even by the best lock picker in the world; it was designed like that."

With widen eyes, the chief waved her off, "Hold on-"

"No can do, sir. You've already got me going." Y/n shifted so she sat cross legged on the floor, nearing closer to the mic, "So what does that tell me? Someone had to use a key to get in. Who has a key to enter the room where the safe deposit boxes are held? Any volunteers? L?" She looked to the detective.

L hadn't seen her so passionate and confident since the beginning her era of burglary. This was the girl he grew attracted to.

L hummed in response, "A manager; perhaps a clerk."

"Correct!" Y/n exclaimed, wrapping an arm around his shoulder whilst continuing, "I'd say the former is most likely because of the insurance money."

"So, sir!" Y/n said, "Let me paint you a picture, yeah? A manager or clerk enters through the front door with their keys, opens the door to the safe deposit boxes room and plants the bobby pins as a poor attempt to trick you; like, what genius robs a bank with bobby pins?"

The girl laughed and shook her head at the amateurish behaviour, " Anyway, they steal the money, make a ruckus to the property then they break the window and lock the front door again to make it seem like they entered through the window; to once more, fool you which seemed to work. " She snorted before waving herself off.

"So sir, I've managed to do your job in about five minutes, so you have a good day." Y/n then hung up the call and groaned.

"I swear the police have become a joke, no wonder they couldn't catch me." The h/c haired girl said, "Thank goodness they have you or they'd be hopel- okay why are you looking at me like that?"

The detective had been staring at her for minutes now and Y/n was starting to think she had something on her face.

Her e/c eyes widen when the crouched man pressed his lips against hers suddenly.

She was about to close her eyes and lean into the gesture when L abruptly pulled away, "My apologies, Y/n. I shouldn't have done that."

"No." was what she merely said causing the male to raise a brow in question.

"No?"

The girl leaned closer to the man himself, "Do it again." she said in a whisper almost.

As the words fell out her mouth. L with no hesitation kissed her.

Her hands found the back of his neck, fingers gently tangling with his jet-black locks whilst his hands rested on her waist.

His grip on her got tighter before she pulled away, slightly; their lips barely touched.

"Why?" She asked, "Why would you kiss me if I'm what you go against. I was a criminal."

"I'm a very biased man, Y/n. You were an exception." He replied, his hand moving from her waist to the side of her face; slightly moving his thumb along her cheek, "I see it in you. You don't want to go back to that life, do you?"

Y/n shook her head gently in response.

"Good." L whispered, "It'd be shame otherwise because I really like you, Y/n."

With a small smile, Y/n breathlessly laughed, "I really like you too, L."

"How did you cash out that money to put it in the warehouse?"

Y/n pulled away to full on laugh, "You're still on that?" The girl wheezed, "Nice try, L."

She lovingly patted the side of his face and stood to her feet, followed by a slight groan.

L followed suit, "No no." The male whined, "Tell me."

"Nope."

"Tell me."

"No."

Silence then engulfed the two as L followed her to the kitchen.

"Tell me now?"
