Chapter 26 Fear

A/N: I wrote this while super tired at 2AM but I wanted to update. Sorry its late! Hopefully its good! <3

Kassidy had been home from the hospital for a week now, as expected she was a bit jumpy, she got up a couple of times a night to check the locks on the windows and doors. Anytime there was a loud noise, she'd jump, and even though it was perfectly safe for her to do so now, she hardly left the house.

Kassidy paced the house, Rogers had been gone for over an hour and he wasn't answering his cellphone. He went out to pick up something for dinner. It was the first time since she was taken that he had left her home by herself and she was panicking. So when Rogers came through the door he didn't not expect to be nearly tackled to the floor.
"I wasn't gone that long love."
"You were gone for an hour and twenty four minutes. And you didn't answer your phone." Kassidy said as she clung to him.
"Oh..I'm so sorry Kass I left it in the car, and I ran into one of the guys." Rogers said as he set the food on the counter. Kassidy was shaking as she held onto him. "I'm okay. Its okay." He said as he held her close. "I brought you some tacos." He smiled. Kassidy finally pulled away from him.
"I'm sorry love, I know you are still having a hard time. I didn't mean to be gone so long."
"Its okay. I'm..sorry I'm such a spaz lately." Kassidy sighed and sat down.
"Its okay, Kassidy. You aren't a spaz after what you went through..I should have expected this." Rogers said and brought the bag of food to the table. Usually he prefered to eat healthier, Kassidy wanted Tacos from the taco truck in front of the library and as long as she was actually eating something, he didn't care. Kassidy opened the bag and pulled out a taco and unwrapped it before taking a bite.
"You are my hero."
"Maybe next time you can come with me. Larry asked about you." Rogers smiled.
"Yeah.." Kassidy said and half smiled.

----------------------------------------------------

Rogers was in his office, doing some work from home, while Kassidy slept. He planned to return to work next week but he wasn't sure how Kassidy would handle that. He didn't mind it so much that she had become so clingy it was a nice change from the norm usually she liked her space however, he hated that she was so scared all of the time now.
A blood curdling scream ripped him from his thoughts and he practically flew out of his chair running down the hallway. This was new. He made it to the bedroom and flipped the light on. Kassidy was twisting and tangling herself in the blankets while kicking furiously. Rogers hurried over to the bed.
"Kassidy wake up love." He said softly and put his hands on her shoulders. Her eyes shot open she screamed and she reared back and punched him right in chest. He groaned in pain. Kassidy blinked a couple of times and looked at Rogers holding his chest.
"Oh my God! Did I hit you??" Kassidy asked and kicked the blankets off of herself.
"Aye. I'm fine though." He smiled reassuringly.
"James I'm so sorry." Kassidy said and put her head in her hands. He sat down on the bed and put his hand on her knee.
"Its okay. I'm not hurt. I'm fine, I'm worried about you. Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah.. I think." She sniffled and swung her legs around the side of the bed and stood up.
"Where are you going?" Rogers asked.
"To check the locks I don't think I locked the window in the living room."
"You did. You checked them twice before you laid down." He reminded her.
"Oh.. Well.. just to be sure." Kassidy said and started walking away. Rogers pulled her back.
"I am sure. Okay? Come on, lay back down you haven't slept properly in a couple of days."
"But what i-" Kassidy started.
"Nothing is going to happen. No one is coming in here. You are safe." Rogers said and helped her lay back down.
"Lay with me?" Kassidy asked.
"I've got to finish my paperwork." Rogers said. Kassidy pouted at him.
"Please?" She asked. Rogers chuckled.
"Look, you. That pout is a dangerous weapon." He said crawled into bed next to her. Kassidy snuggled up to him and laid her head on his chest. Rogers ran his fingers through her curls trying to coax her back to sleep. He felt his shirt getting wet and he looked down and noticed that Kassidy was crying quietly.
"Hey.. what is it?" He asked.
"I'm so tired of being afraid." She whimpered. Rogers thumbed the tear away from her eye and rubbed her shoulder.
"We'll get you through this love. I promise." He said. "I am never going to let anyone hurt you ever again."
Kassidy tilted her head and looked up at him.
"I love you." She said. It was the first time she had said it since being home and it was good to hear. Rogers smiled down at her.
"I love you too."
Kassidy snuggled back into his chest and yawned.
"Go ahead and sleep. I'll be right here." He said quietly and pulled the blanket over them.
Kassidy smiled and closed her eyes.

A week later

"Do you have to go back to work?" Kassidy asked as she traced her finger in heart shapes over his chest.
"Yes. Unfortunately." Rogers smirked.
"Can I come?" Kassidy asked.
"You want to come and sit at the station with me?" Rogers asked.
"Yes." Kassidy shrugged. Rogers thought for a moment.
"I'll tell you what. I'll bring you with me, but I want you to try and walk around, maybe check out some of your old stomping grounds?"
"You want me to go and steal candy bars and cigarettes from the convenience store?" Kassidy asked.
Rogers gave her a look.
"Only if you want to be arrested."
"Well I guess that depends on who is holding the handcuffs Detective." Kassidy said and bit her lip raising her eyebrows at him.
"Bloody siren." Rogers smirked.
"You know it." Kassidy smiled.
Rogers was thankful that Kassidy seemed to be getting back to her old self. They still had some work to do to get her back to where she should be but they were getting there.

-----------------------------------------------

Rogers and Kassidy were getting ready to leave and Kassidy seemed pretty anxious.
"Just remember what I've been teaching you and you will be fine." Rogers said.
"Can I practice one more time?" Kassidy asked. Rogers smiled and walked up behind her grabbing her from behind. Kassidy used the self defense maneuver he showed her to get him off of her and roll him onto the ground pinning him down.
"You just wanted to get me on the floor didn't you Cole?" Rogers asked.
"Maybe." Kassidy smirked and kissed him.
"Mm as much as I'd like to finish what you started, I am going to be late." He rolled over on top of her and pinned her to the floor. "Later?"
"Maybe." Kassidy winked.
"You tease." Rogers growled lightly and stood up helping her up.
"You love it." Kassidy giggled.
"I do." Rogers grinned and pulled her close planting his lips on hers. Kassidy pulled away breathlessly.
"Two can play at that game Love." He winked and walked out the door.
"Hey!" Kassidy whined and followed him.

--------------------------------------------------

Kassidy had stayed at the station with Rogers for most of the day.
"Why don't you go on a walk?" Rogers asked. "Go see Will he's still in the hospital." he suggested.
"You're okay with that?" Kassidy asked.
"Of course love." Rogers smiled. "I know you've been worried about him. I'll pick you up from there."
Kassidy nodded. "Okay." She said and smiled nervously and looked towards the door.
"You will be fine love. I promise." Rogers said. "If you get scared, just call me."
"Okay." Kassidy smiled and stood on her toes to Kiss him. He hugged her tightly.
"I love you. I will see you in a bit."
"Love you too Detective dreamboat." Kassidy grinned and walked out of the Precinct. As soon as she stepped outside anxiety began to bubble and she wanted to turn and walk back in but she had to do this. She had to stop being afraid. She slowly made her way away from the station looking over her shoulder every few minutes until she got comfortable with her surroundings. She had walked these streets for years yet somehow this all felt new to her.
"Kass Hey! Its good to see you!"
She heard the voice, but the hand on her shoulder startled her. She went into self defense mode and tackled her "attacker" to the ground only to realize it was Henry.
"Shit. Mills! I'm sorry." Kassidy sighed and helped him up.
"You're good, I'm just glad Lucy wasn't around, with as much as she likes to pick up from you." Henry chuckled. "Nice moves I see Rogers has been teaching you."
"Oh yeah." Kassidy laughed.
"How are you doing? You know after that whole ordeal?"
"I'm getting better." Kassidy smiled. "I'm actually going to see Will to see how he's doing."
"Oh Good. that's great." Henry smiled. "You want me to walk with you?"
"Nah.. I think I got it." Kassidy grinned.
"Alright, I'll leave you to it." Henry said and waved. "It was good seeing you."
"Good seeing you too Mills." Kassidy said and waved back before walking away.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Blondie! To what do I owe the visit?" Will grinned as Kassidy walked into his room.
"I just wanted to see how you were." Kassidy smiled.
"Ah, I'm good. Its gonna take a lot more than a hole in my leg to keep me down." Will smirked.
"Good." Kassidy laughed.
"How are you doing?" Will asked.
"I'm good. Getting better everyday. Rogers is..great." Kassidy said forgetting she was talking to her ex boyfriend about her new boyfriend.
"I'm sorry." She muttered.
"No..hey its okay. He makes you happy and that is all I could ask for." Will smiled.
"Thank you." Kassidy said and sat down.
"So.. what are your plans after you get out of here? You gonna stick around?" Kassidy asked. Will shook his head.
"Nah.. you know me. Always on the move. I'm sure you'll see me around sometimes. What about you? Rogers go get his kid yet?" Will asked.
"What do you mean?" Kassidy asked.
"..you didn't check your pocket?" Will asked.
"I don't know what you are talking about Will." Kassidy said.
"Oh don't tell me you lost my parting gift." Will sighed.
Parting gift.

Kassidy struggled to remember for a moment. Her brain was foggy of all the details of what had happened because of all the sedatives they had pumped into her while she was being held captive.

"Why do you always make things difficult for me Scarlet?"
Kassidy was fully awake now and watched Richard walk over and wrestle the empty bag away from Will. Will sighed and gave her an apologetic look. He walked over and slipped something into her pocket.
"A parting gift." He said and kissed her on the forehead.

Kassidy reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. She opened it and looked down at an address written on the paper.
 "Is this.." She started.
"Aye. Rogers kid and baby momma. It took a while. She changed her name but That is her. It checks out." Will smiled.
"Oh Will! You are amazing!" Kassidy grinned ear to ear and carefully hugged him. "I have to go I hope you don't mind." Kassidy said.
 Will chuckled. "Go." He said.
"Thank you so much!" Kassidy smiled.
"You are welcome! Now go! Run straight home and don't stop til you get there." Will smirked. "Did you just quote Willy Wonka?" Kassidy laughed.
"Oh will you just go." Will said. Kassidy grinned and hurried out of the hospital excited to share this with Rogers.
