A/N: decided to publish this one a little early since so many people like this story. Enjoy!
"Kass.. say something love." Rogers said, he had broken away from the kiss and Kassidy was staring at him like a deer in the headlights.
"I.. that.." Kassidy stuttered out.
"I'm sorry I've been wanting to do that for weeks, maybe I should have wait-" Rogers couldn't even get the full sentence out before Kassidy tugged him back to her lips by the lapels of his jacket. She pulled away breathlessly.
"I'm..kind of bad with words." She said. Rogers smiled.
"Can we go in now?" He asked.
"You wuss." Kassidy laughed and took his hand walking up to the front door with him.
"Hey, some of us are not used to spending hours at a time in cold weather."
"And to think I used to do it with shorts." Kassidy smirked. Rogers unlocked the door and opened it leading her inside.
"I'm going to make some tea, would you like some?" Rogers asked.
"Yeah, sure. Just let me go get into something more comfortable." Kassidy smiled and walked into her room.
Kassidy returned to the living room in her favorite pair of lounge pants and a tee shirt.
"Better?" Rogers asked from the couch.
"God yes, I thought my eyes were going to bug out those jeans were squeezing me so tight." She said and plopped down on the couch next to him and leaned forward picking up her mug of tea. She leaned back and tucked her legs under her and sipped at her tea.
"So.." Rogers said as he set his mug down on the coffee table and leaned back.
"So..what?" Kassidy asked.
"Where do we go from here?" Rogers asked.
"Where do you want to go?"
"I would like to see where this goes but only if you want that to."
"I do." Kassidy replied and smiled nervously.
"You seem nervous." Rogers observed.
"I..well, I am." Kassidy said and put her mug on the coffee table next to his and pulled her legs to her chest and rested her chin on them.
"Why are you nervous?" Rogers asked.
"You just seem like a very nice guy. You know..stable, with your head on your shoulders and..that is everything I'm not. I mean.. I used to sleep with people just to piss of my Dad, My first real relationship came out of making out with Will in the back of a cop car, for christ sake." Kassidy sighed. "Everything with Will was chaos. We never had this conversation we just kind of exploded into a relationship, and for a couple years it was me and him against the world and then all of a sudden he was here one day gone the next and I want someone like you, someone who I know is coming home at the end of the day but.. You are way too good for me James. You deserve better than some used up, homeless girl." Kassidy said and looked down.
"Hey.. you are not just some used up homeless girl Kass."
"Then what would you call me?" Kassidy asked.
"You're beautiful, you're incredible, You are funny and you have just the right amount of crazy, You don't give damn what anyone thinks of you and you march to the beat of a different drum and those are just some of the things I love about you." Rogers smiled and leaned forward wiping a tear from Kassidy's cheek.
"I'm a flight risk James.." Kassidy warned.
"You just need someone who can keep you grounded." Rogers replied.
"And you think that's you?" Kassidy asked.
"Well, I did say I like a challenge." Rogers chuckled. "I know you have every reason to get up and leave, to run because it's what you know, but if there is one thing inside of you telling you to stay. Please..listen to it. I promise you, you will never have to worry about whether or not I am going to be here when you wake up. Well.. maybe, I mean you do sleep until noon sometimes and I do have to work." Rogers said and cracked a smile. Kassidy laughed a little and pushed his shoulder.
"So you really want to do this?" Kassidy asked. "The cop and the criminal?"
"Yes, I do want to do this and I see criminals every day Kass you are not a criminal." Rogers smirked. "A chaotic little mischief maker, but not a criminal."
Kassidy gave him a sly smile.
"That was not an open invitation to become a criminal." Rogers said. "I don't want to have to arrest you, again."
"Are you sure detective?" Kassidy asked and quirked a brow and bit her lip. Rogers cursed under his breath as he felt his cheeks heat up. Why did she always have to say something to make him blush?
"Relax detective, I was kidding. Unless kinky handcuff play is your thing." Kassidy quipped.
"It's not, unless you ask nicely." Rogers fired back this time making Kassidy blush.
"Payback." He chuckled.
"You are learning." Kassidy smiled. "So what happens now?" She asked.
"Right now? I think I'm about to head to bed." Rogers said. "I have an early shift tomorrow."
"Bed? Now?" Kassidy asked almost confused she wasn't used to this. Usually nights like this ended with sex, however Rogers was unlike anyone she had ever been with. Rogers looked at her worried expression.
"Oh..were you.. You were expecting.."
Kassidy nodded.
"No.. no. It may not be your first time, but it will be your first time with me, and I want it to be perfect. I'm not a one and done kind of guy." Rogers smiled. "I want to show you, how you should have been treated."
Kassidy felt herself blushing again. She looked up at him and smiled.
"Okay." She said softly. "Goodnight then?"
Rogers leaned in and pecked her on the lips.
"Goodnight love."
When Roger's woke up the next morning he sat up and blinked the sleep out of his eyes and smiled at Kassidy who was sitting on the bed in front of him she was already showered and dressed for the day. She extended her hand with a coffee cup in it to him.
"Good morning." She said and smiled. Rogers took the coffee from her.
"Morning love." He said. "You are up early, and you made coffee."
"I wanted to be up to see you off to work, and..I had to google how to make coffee. Don't judge me."
Rogers laughed. "I am going to have to teach you..so many things." He said and took a sip from the coffee and tried his best not to make a face as it went down his throat. It tasted like it could possibly melt his esophagus. But she tried, and he didn't want to let her know it was awful.
"So?" She asked.
"Mm. Good." He forced.
Google lied to you sweetheart
"Good!" Kassidy smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll let you get ready. I'm going to make breakfast" She said and walked out of the room. Rogers set the coffee down and shuttered.
Wait.. did she say make breakfast? Oh..god.
Rogers pushed the covers over him and hurried to the kitchen and sighed in relief, thankful that her idea of breakfast was putting a poptart in the toaster.
"I'm just going to jump in the shower. I'll be out shortly." He smiled and walked into the bathroom.
Kassidy expected Rogers to come back to the kitchen fully dressed and ready for work. What she did not expect was for him to come into the kitchen with only a towel wrapped snug around his waist. So when she looked up she couldn't help but stare. He picked up the poptart from the plate on the table and took a bite.
"It's good." He smiled at her.
"Well.. it is kinda hard to screw up a poptart." Kassidy grinned and strolled over to him.
"True." He chuckled.
"You.. have a bit of.." Kassidy started but reached up and wiped away the strawberry jam on his lip with her finger and then stuck it in her mouth licking the jam from her finger.
This bloody siren is going to run my good guy credit straight into the ground.
"You okay, James?" She asked with an innocent smile. Her hands trailed up his bare chest.
"I know what you are trying to do." He almost growled.
"Enlighten me, Detective." Kassidy smiled. Two could play at this game. Rogers leaned in and pushed her hair off her neck and placed tender kisses in a row up to her ear.
"The more you try to seduce me, the longer I am going to make you wait darling." He whispered and pulled away.
"But.. but.." Kassidy pouted at him She was not used to taking things slow.
"It's called patience, love." Rogers smirked. "I told you I wanted it to be perfect."
"Okay." Kassidy sighed. "It's just different for me." She said but then smiled. "A good different though. Maybe don't strut out to the kitchen in nothing but a towel." She giggled.
"Fair enough." Rogers smiled. "I'm going to get dressed for work." He said and walked down the hallway.
When Rogers left for work, Kassidy wasted no time getting back to trying to track down his daughter, and horrible ex girlfriend, Eloise was a hard person to find and Kassidy was getting desperate when suddenly she remembered the one person better at tracking down people than she was. But could she? Could she really open that can of worms? She opened facebook on her phone went up to the search bar and typed
Will Scarlet
He still had an active profile. She clicked on it and her finger hovered over the send message button. Was she really about to do this? She took a deep breath and clicked the button. It was worth it. If he could track down Rogers kid, then it was worth every bit of pain it caused her.
Kass:
You still good at finding people? I need help.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw that the message had been seen and she thought she would have a panic attack when she saw that he was typing
Will:
Since when are you back online blondie? ;)
Kass:
Can you help me or not?
Will:
Answer my question and we'll see.
Kass:
Long story short, I live with Detective Rogers now. He gave me a phone to contact him when I needed to. I'm trying to find his ex girlfriend and his daughter. Can you help me or not?
Will:
You two a thing now?
Kass:
Will.. come on.
Will:
Are you?
Kass:
Fine. Yes. Are you going to help me?
Will:
One more question, He make you happy?
Kass:
Yes. He does.
There was a long pause. Kassidy figured he was never going to reply. He was probably mad she had moved on. She sighed in relief when he started typing.
Will:
Names?
Kass:
Girlfriend is Eloise Gardener, his daughters name is Tilly.
Will:
I'll see what I can do.
Kass:
Thank you...Where have you been? Rogers tracked your phone from when you called me. You were here. Where are you?
Will:
I'll get back to you with your information until then, don't message me.
Kassidy sighed.
"Cryptic asshole.." She muttered to herself.
Rogers walked through the front door after work.
"Kass love I'm ho-" He stopped short and tried to hold in a laugh. Kassidy had his headphones, and his ipod and was dancing around the living room like no one was watching. Except he was, he was watching. This was too good. He pulled out his phone and started recording her shaking her stuff all over the living room like it was her own personal dance floor.
"Shake it baby." He said and whistled.
Kassidy froze in place and ripped the headphones off her head and whipped around.
"H..how long have.. Are you recording me??"
"Aye." Rogers chuckled.
"James!" She squeaked and rushed over to him and reached for his phone. He held it out of her reach.
"Oh Weaver is going to love this. So will the rest of the guys at the precinct."
"No! Delete it!" Kassidy said.
"No way." Rogers laughed.Kassidy jumped taking him by surprise and snatched the phone from his hand.
"Hey! Give that back."
Kassidy quirked a brow. "You want it?" She asked and then slipped it down the front of her sweat pants. "Come and get it detective." She smirked and hurried down the hall to her room. Rogers ran down the hall after her.
"I've tackled you before, I'll do it again." He said and grabbed her by her hips pulling her to the floor. She laughed and wiggled trying to get away from him. He caught her ankle and pulled her back and flipped her over pinning her wrists above her head with one hand.
"When are you going to realize I always end up catching you?" He smirked.
"Maybe I let you catch me." Kassidy smiled.
"Oh, you did, did you?" Rogers asked and reached his other hand into the front of her sweatpants to retrieve his phone. She shivered under him as he hand ran down her thigh. Rogers put his phone on the floor next to them and leaned in and kissed her. His other hand that was pinning left her wrists and joined the other one holding her hips. Kassidy weaved her fingers into his dark locks deepening the kiss. Her lips curved into a smirk under his and she rolled flipping him onto his back.
"Hah!" She said.
"Not so fast Cole." He muttered and flipped her back onto her back so quickly it caught her by surprise. He smirked and leaned back in to kiss her. Her phone pinged from the nightstand beside her bed.
"Oh. I have to get that." She said breaking the kiss.
"Ignore it." Rogers said.
"I can't." Kassidy said and wiggled her way out from under him. "It might be from Will."
Rogers heart sank.
"Will?" he asked. Kassidy got up and walked to her night stand and sighed.
"Damnit."
"Try not to sound too disappointed." Rogers mumbled. "Why are you messaging Will?"
"I asked him for help trying to find your daughter. He's better at finding people than me, and I've used all my resources."
"I'm not comfortable with this." Rogers said.
"It's fine, I told him about us he's still going to help."
Rogers expression changed and he was angry now.
"You..told him about us? Does he know you live here??" He asked standing up.
"Well.. yes."
"Kassidy! What were you thinking??" Rogers demanded. "How do you even know that was Will you were talking to?"
"What is the big deal? It's just Will. I know it was him he called me blondie. No one else does"
"That's not the point, What if whoever he is working for gets that information. That will lead them straight to you! You are no longer safe here Kass."
"The people hes working for?"
"The people who tried to take you a while back. Will works for them."
"How do you know?" Kassidy asked.
"Because he told me that the peo-" Rogers stopped himself realizing what he had just done.
"What?" Kassidy asked. "Will.. told you? Told you how? When did you talk to him?!" Kassidy demanded.
Rogers sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"When I found his burner phone. I found him too. He told me that he had pissed off the people he worked for, and that you were their next target. He didn't want me to tell you I saw him because he knew you would look for him and if you were anywhere near him, those men would find you. I'm sorry, he told me not to tell you."
"I don't give a damn what he told you! I trusted you James! I was so worried that something happened to him and you fucking lied to me!"
"I did it to protect you Kassidy!" Rogers shouted.
"I don't care if you were protecting the queen of fucking england! You lied to me!" Kassidy said and picked up the phone walking out of the room.
"Where are you going?" Rogers asked following her. Kassidy slipped her boots on.
"Anywhere but here." She mumbled.
"You can't leave." Rogers said.
"I can. And I will." Kassidy snapped and grabbed her coat.
"Kassidy please think about this." Rogers begged. "It's not safe."
Kassidy rolled her eyes and opened the door and walked out slamming it behind her.
No goodbye, no see you later. Rogers sighed heavily. He had royally screwed up now.
